Work Text:
Sae flinched as a sharp needle entered his skin—he watches the nurse pull out one vial of his blood. She’s guiding him through it, asking some lukewarm questions so that he doesn’t tense up and prolong this already tedious process. However, he isn’t interested in making conversation—he just wants to get this over with.
He thinks it’s just some serious stomach bug harassing him—that’s why he’s been feeling nauseous and puking majority of his meals in the morning. However, the clinic he visited today suggested they run a few tests.
Check his stats.
Make sure that he’s really okay and it’s not anything threatening or concerning.
He doubts it, but agreed nonetheless, only to make sure himself that he’s actually still doing okay.
“Removing the needle.” He overhears. He feels the blunt, sharp object exit his skin in one quick motion before being replaced with a cotton ball—the nurse puts a bandage over it, asking her colleague who walks into the room, right on time, to take the vials of blood she’s pulled and begin running them through.
The other agrees and Sae watches the exchange before being told to get up. He’s guided back to the room he was originally in and given a basic rundown of what comes next:
“The lab will analyze your blood samples; shouldn’t take more than fifteen or thirty minutes. But hopefully, once that’s done, the doctor will tell you the final diagnosis.” He nods along to her words and watches her exit the room. Sae initially just sits there—checking his watch for the time.
It’s almost two in the afternoon.
He’ll probably get lunch once this is over—call Shidou and let him know that it wasn’t anything serious at all. Just a common case of food poisoning or stomach bugs—though, according to his doctor, that can’t be.
Food poisoning or stomach issues went away within a week at most, but Sae let her know that this has been going on for close to three weeks already.
She then had followed up with much more specific questions—was he sexually active, did he and his partner use any form of contraception, was he currently on birth control, when was the last day of his previous menstrual cycle, et cetera.
It had made Sae uncomfortable because it seemed like she was implying the unimaginable. Like she was contemplating the possibility of him having been in the very early stages of pregnancy.
Which couldn’t be possible.
Because while, yes, he and Shidou had been slightly more engaging within these last few months, they’ve always been careful. Always using condoms in case Sae forgot to take his pill. Or just pulling out before the other could even think about cumming inside.
Sae is confident that it’s just a stomach bug.
He knows it is.

Shidou is walking off the turf and heading into the locker room—he’s stripping off his shirt, grabbing a sip of his water, while reaching into his gym bag to get his belongings. He hears his teammates begin piling in—they’re making conversation and including him in on it.
He’s too distracted to notice his phone ringing in his bag—thankfully, Charles notices it for him. Tapping him on the shoulder and handing it over—the locker room erupts into coos because they already know who it could be.
“Don’t keep the wifey waiting, Ryusei.” Karasu teases from his own corner—Shidou promptly throws him some extra towel he had in his locker before answering the phone.
“Hi lovebug.” He’s putting it on speaker while he finishes changing and looks for his earbuds. Sae is rambling on and on about something, but considering his own teammates are also going back and forth amongst each other, he can’t really tell. After a while, he finally tells them to shut up—he’s now desperate to hear what Sae is trying to say to him.
“Sorry, Sae. You were saying though-“ He pulls his shirt over his head, shoving his arms through the sleeves before grabbing at his phone and removing the speaker phone. However, Charles and Karasu are both leaning over his right shoulder, still trying to tune in. Rin meanwhile is also raising a brow of interest—but narrowing his eyes at the blonde, not truly trying to show that he’s curious.
They’re all itching to know just as much as Shidou.
Sae takes a deep breath from his end, can be heard sniffling and is then letting his voice come through.
“Ryusei… I’m… we did… fuck… look, I’m pregnant and it’s most definitely yours because you’re the only one I’ve done that type of thing with…”
Shidou practically freezes in one place thinking he misheard. There was no way—yet, at the same time, it was logically plausible because he and Sae had been getting more and more sloppy with each time.
He’s trying to formulate a response, while also not giving away any hints as to what this conversation was about to the other two idiots currently asking him. Or to Rin who was now joining in with them because he also wanted to know.
This was private.
For only he and Sae to know.
But he’s already dropping subliminals by the way he’s smiling. Practically beaming from ear to ear—he’s going to be a father. Be the best fucking dad out there.
Fuck it.
“Don’t worry, honey bun, I’ll be taking full responsibility.” He says, loud enough for the others to hear. Karasu is immediately patting him on the back, while Charles is gasping. Rin is seemingly the only one who doesn’t get it until Shidou hangs up the phone.
“What the fuck are you smiling for roach? What’s wrong with my brother?” He’s getting snarky and defensive because he’s already has an awful feeling about it. And sure enough it’s confirmed when the other smirks at him.
“You’ve been upgraded to uncle status, Rin-Rin.” Shidou is immediately dodging a flying cleat—Rin looks like he wants to kill him. Unfortunately that can’t happen anymore; Sae needs him more than ever right now, and he’ll be damned if he leaves him alone.
Ah.
Shidou is sighing happily even though he can hear Rin threatening to stomp his roach ass out.
He’s really going to be a father—he doesn’t care for gender, just as long as they look like his Sae-Chan.
