The Crew
* After the crash Curly starts off completely immobile, as he is in canon. Doesn’t look much different either through all the bandages. They initially thought his condition WAS that bad, but as he began to heal the damage showed it could be reversed, not completely, but much more so. Anya does a fantastic job taking care of him, and the entire crew is in awe of her seeing Curly’s progress and help when they can, even if they don’t really know what they’re doing. She appreciates it nonetheless.
* Curly has had many many long late night talks with Anya. She learned his favorite dogs were golden retrievers (because of COURSE they are), he was in a frat (another unsurprising realization), and he loved doing charity marathons. Curly learned that Anya has three cats at home that her Grandma is taking care of, shes a fantastic cook (loves making food from her culture and misses healthy meals), and that she ADORES metal music.
- They have also had a lot of talks breaking down Curly’s bro-code traits, helping him understand that while being a dude or a friend is not his fault, he caused pain through his compliance with letting someone like Jimmy slide.
*Curly talks with Swansea about Jimmy and their old friendship the most, feeling like the older man would be the most understanding. Swansea gives him the harsh truths he needs without being unnecessarily cruel. It’s made him realize a lot about his life and what he let slide, but also the abuse he himself suffered from Jimmy without even realizing it. He’s embarrassed to admit he’s cried too many times to count in front of Swansea. He keeps his lips sealed about it. Mostly.
* Daisuke starts a nuzlocke with Anya on his DS (you think he brought just a gameboy?? you Fool.) to pass time. They made it past the Elite Four a month or so in and it was the most locked in they were for the wholeass trip.
-Anya is virtually his big sister. They play board games together, fuck up making meals (Daisuke fucks them up. Anya fixes them. She doesn’t mind.)
Grant Curly
* Has PTSD and horrible horrible nightmares. the nightmares are of the worst situations possible (the canon) and he wakes up screaming. Scared the hell out of the others the first few times.
*As for his injuries, He got deeply burned on only half of his body primarily including his throat, half of his lower face, his arms and hands.
* He was unable to communicate for at least a month and a half after the collision. As soon as he can talk he apologizes so much he damages his freshly healed vocal chords.
* He beats the fuck out of Jimmy pretty much as soon as he physically can. a few months into recovery Anya is helping him with physical therapy and regaining strength in the med bay and Jimmy enters. Curly just hobbles to him on his crutches and starts just fucking ROCKING his shit. Anya doesn’t pull him off until he actively begins really straining his injuries. Partially because she was absolutely stunned by what just happened and also because seeing Jimmy get his shit rocked had to be savored. Just a little.
* After he is able to sustain himself away from the med bay long enough to not be unpleasant, he loves chilling in the common room and just watching the crew come and go. He’s found he quite likes the lack of crushing expectations and being allowed to just exist, even if it is a painful and deeply distressing existence at times.
* Curly has become a lot more self deprecating alongside his newfound awareness. He takes accountability and reaches out to his crew members more. He asks about their lives and they do so in return. He feels it’s the least he can do, and the change in energy is palpable, even with Jimmy lurking in his room most days.
Daisuke Juarez
* Has called Swansea dad multiple times and throws an internal fit whenever he does. Swansea will never admit it but he thinks he likes it.
* Daisuke, turns out, is actually REALLY good at his job, just entirely unconventionally. Swansea is forever perplexed. How did you fix that pipe with just pliers kid?? Why does it actually look stable???? So he's kind of allowed to do his own thing and less by the book, but only if Swansea is watching or at least aware of it.
* He’s also gotten an affinity for fixing small things around the ship. Cabinet squeaky? Fixed the next day.TV glitching? Solved. One of the chairs is wobbly and curly almost falls out of it? All better. He preens at the little compliments and surprised exclamations of wow, this works again! Daisuke did you do this? thank you!!
Anya Musume
* Works really hard on keeping Curly alive and well, not just for him but to prove to herself that she IS a good nurse (shes a great one).
*After Jimmy is taken care of, she begins to wash more and care for herself again. She likes styling her hair. Daisuke also likes it. He braids her hair and she trims his when his bangs get too long. Swansea then complains about shedding and hair in the cushions for weeks after.
Swansea Harold
* He fixed the screens after daisuke begged him to try. With Daisuke’s help he also was able to find a way to get an old DVD player hooked to the big one. They use it for karaoke and whatever random shit they can find onboard. So far they’ve found 80s workout videos, trashy sitcoms, the entire collection of star trek and a few nature documentaries.
* Likes reading a whole lot more than he used to. Curly’s a huge reader and has a large variety of books, a lot of history and sci-fi and mysteries. He joins curly reading in the lounge often.
