Year Twenty - You Don't Even Know, Do You?

Summary:

Day 20 - "You don't even know, do you?"

Stede's a little bitchy but Ed loves him, anyway

Notes:

Written as part of OFMD's #Fluffvember. One ficlet for every day of #Fluffvember represents a moment in time over the next 30 years of Ed and Stede’s life together.

Each fic is rated individually with its own set of tags and can be read as its own piece if desired but I recommend reading them as a series.

This one has a tiny throwback to Year Eleven. You don't have to have read it to enjoy this one, but it helps provide a little extra context

Work Text:

“Babe, what’re you doing?”

“Nothing,” Stede answered, closing the curtains.

“Nothing, huh? Cause it looks like you’re pulling a Jimmy Stewart on the new neighbors there, love.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Ed. This is clearly a front window. I’d be pulling a Jimmy Stewart if I was spying on them out the rear window.”

Ed crossed his arms, triumphant. “So you are spying.”

“What? No. I’m part of the neighborhood watch. I’m watching.”

Ed shook his head, taking a seat in his recliner. “You don’t even know, do you?”

Stede asked, pulling back the curtain again, “Know what?” But before Ed could answer Stede ‘tsk’d’ and huffed against the glass.

Ed didn’t look up from his Kindle. “What is it?”

“They’re hanging a flag by their front door.”

“Babe, we have a flag by the front door.” They’d had the progress pride flag out there for as long as they’d lived there, replacing it as it wore out.

“It’s a sports flag, Edward.”

Ed set his Kindle down. “And?”

“And,” Stede said, turning and crossing his arms. “It’s for the Hunt, the Bulldogs’ division rivals!”

Ed tried to hide his amused smile but it was too late.

“Edward! This is serious,” he huffed.

Ed crossed the living room to take Stede in his arms. “I know, baby. I know.”

The next day, Ed stopped by the sports memorabilia shop on his way home from dropping Stede off at the library for his weekly readings with the kids. And when they both returned home a couple of hours later, hanging below the Pride flag in a newly installed bracket was a Bulldogs hockey flag.
