Work Text:

August 2007, Summer.

It's been a year since Riko's death, Suguru, Shoko, and Satoru has been spending less time together due to the fact that they've been going on solo missions a lot more, and it has been a lot more harder to hang out because of how quiet the three get sometimes.

Satoru typically bounces off of Suguru's little thoughts but since Suguru has started talking less, he managed to be quieter than normal, and Shoko doesn't talk that much in general. Today was a little different, Shoko, out of all people, planned a hang out for them.

They agreed on meeting after school, just under a shady tree at the park to catch up with each other. Shoko was there first, she was lighting up her cigarette when she saw the two. Attached to the hip as always.

"Yo!" She waved her hand lazily. "Shoko Ieri? Is this really you?" Satoru teased before putting down the snacks he brought.

"Who knew you actually liked seeing our faces." He says, before placing the snacks he got down the concrete half wall.

"I don't, I just thought your pale asses just needed more sun." Suguru laughed at the dry delivery, knowing damn well that was said specifically for him.

They shared sweets, chips, and stories as the cicadas hummed and the people at the parked walked by. The afternoon has passed and the sun is finally bidding goodbye to the sky.

Geto can't imagine how it could even better than this. His chest started to feel heavy again, the sound of the cicadas chirping in his ear reminded him of the applause he heard from the Star Religious group.

Did all of that really have to happen?

He puts his hand on his temple, his stare at the moving grass growing bigger and bigger as the violent thoughts in his head grow louder and louder with every clap he remembers.

"You really have lost some weight, Suguru."

The claps stopped.

He looks up, Satoru has been staring at him. Suguru opens a can of lime soda as he lightly chuckles, "It's just the summer heat! You've said that already back at school."

"Is it really though?" Shoko has started to pack her stuff up,

"You constantly look like you've seen war, we're here if something's bothering you." She said as she stood up, taking one last hit from her cig.

"Yeah. I know." He smiles weakly.

"Liar." Shoko whispers under her breath, earning a light chuckle from Suguru "Well, I'm gonna go now, if you guys are staying you could clean this up." She points at the wrappers of snacks while walking away.

"See ya!" Gojo waves goodbye.

The park has gotten more quiet, people left after the sun started setting. The two stayed, observing the people leaving while sitting in comfortable silence together. They've done nothing but look, constantly glancing at each other, trying to think of something to say. The sodas they were drinking are lukewarm now.

Gojo stretches and sits more comfortably before breaking the silence.

"Do you think you could love me, even just a little bit?"

The soda in Suguru's mouth spilled on his chin after being taken aback by the sudden question.

He looks at the fizzy drink in Satoru's hand and looks up at the white haired man.

Did he really just ask that? He raises his eyebrow and starts fidgeting his can, swaying and changing it's place on the half wall they're sitting on.

Is he messing with me?

He couldn't tell what exactly Satoru's face was telling him. It was just a blank expression as if the question he just asked was something Suguru could answer right away.

"What kind of question is that?" He nervously laughs and tries to take another sip of his drink.

The lime soda tastes more sour now than sweet, he can feel his stomach bubbling from the silence Gojo is giving him, his expression still blank.

"I don't know- I dont mean it like that though, I just-" a long sigh that makes Suguru even more nervous was let out.

Satoru was obviously word vomiting at this point, he can finally tell what his facial expressions are, confused, frustrated, flustered. "Come on don't make it sound weird, dude! You know what I mean!" He playfully nudges at Geto with his can.

"You're the one being weird about this!" Geto pokes his leg with enough force to make him jump. "Like seriously what are you even asking me!?"

It took one look.

"Forget it!" Satoru sighs again before laughing "You-"

Then forever laid out in front of me.

"Of course I do, man!" Suguru cuts him off, he looks at him back and feels a sharp shooting pain in his chest.

Now what does he mean this time? Gojo could feel his face heat up even more, he fixes his glasses and clears his throat.

"What so you're just gonna look at me like that? You're making me nervous." Geto's smile was even wider, his cheeks obviously flushed.

One smile, then I died. Only to be revived by you.

"Well I love you too" the sentence loops in his head, he wishes he could say something that wouldn't confuse the other again, but all he could do was change his position, crossing his legs while facing Geto.

Why did this have to be so hard?

"Oh fuck this!" He laughs again, bumping Suguru with his shoulder, almost leaning into him if he were to do it more gently.

There I was, thought I had everything figured out.

"Weirdo." Suguru pushes him to the other side. They both laugh, trying their best to regain their confidence after what they've just said to each other.

Goes to show just how much I know 'bout the way life plays out.

They both know they can't say what's really in their mind right now. Everything is falling apart, everything is fragile, they can't mess up the one thing they have that's keeping them both sane from this crazy world. They both wish for something better than this, but this is all that they could get, so they make use of it as much as they can.

Now I know that I know not a thing at all, except the fact that I am yours, and you are mine. If you told me that this wouldn't be easy-

and no, I'm not one to complain.

The pair sit in comfortable silence again, closer than when they first got there. Empty soda cans clink as the wind hits, the sound of the cicadas chirping sounds less agitating now.

Suguru breathes in as he can feel Satoru lean on his shoulder. Should he push him back again?

Even though he'll just get back to the position they're in right now?

Even when Satoru fixes his posture and sits opposite of him, he still manages his way back to Geto's shoulder.

They look at each other, hoping one of them will say something. But they both stay silent instead, just accepting how this evening has become.

I take one step away, then I find myself coming back to you my one and only you.
