Alone, I Dream

Summary:

Finally I can match some words to my views on religion. Whenever I've thought of this in the past, it was more in concept than some form of explanation. Whether or not this makes sense, I hope you find this interesting.

Work Text:

And when I lay last night to chase sleep, the Lord said; ‘goodnight’. My Lady cares. Their affection is not earned so much as openly shown. See, there’s a label I might fall under, I certainly do not protest it. As close as it can feel, ‘agnostic’ seems right enough for now.

In my heart, I do not believe in a god who is claimed to have fathered our world and preaches love if the alleged care for his children has more conditions than we can  agree on. In my mind, I do love to dream of Creators from our surviving stories. Figures like those the Greeks have long cemented in legend.

Outwardly, I loudly doubt there’s scientific truth to religion. Privately, I dream.

I would like to accept our godly parents if they are openly and honestly flawed, and yet continue onwards past these features to care for their children. When they give back to their followers for our worship, it is seemingly instant. They’re a constant, comforting presence, watching softly over your shoulder. Those who already follow these deities say there’s no question of authenticity when they answer. There’s no praying morning and evening to One Man in the hopes he’ll eventually set some time aside for you. What there is, is a family. Chaotic and writhing and some are said to be argumentative, or firm, but they’re there. It is said that they want to listen. That’s a family I want to believe in. That’s a love I want to chase.
