Work Text:

Max is very nervous, he always feels like this when he goes on a date with Charles, don't get it wrong, it's not a negative feeling. He may have shaky hands when he puts on his clothes or ties his shoes. But when he finally manages to sneak out of Jos's strict conditions about when and with whom he can hang out. He meets Charles and feels like he's flying and all his worries about his life and his family disappear.

Something similar happened today. Max was getting ready to meet Charles. He was wearing an everyday white t-shirt and jeans.

He looked at himself in the mirror as he tried to do his hair, quickly scanning himself. He has the feeling he always wears the same clothes, but - oh well, he can't bring himself to worry about that at the moment.

He grabs his phone, his keys, some spare money he found on his bedside table and rushes downstairs.

Before he closes the door behind him, he hears his father calling his name, but he ignores him, the only thing that matters now is meeting Charles.

After closing the door behind him, he turns to find Charles leaning against his car - well, his dad's car - with a big grin on his face.

"Hey you," Charles said, wrapping his hands around Max's waist as soon as he was close enough.

Max blushed as Charles' hands fell around him, months had passed since they started dating and Max still blushed like a high school girl whenever Charles hugged or kissed him.

"Hey..." Max said smiling, "I think your dad told you not to get his car again... after last time."

Charles rolled his eyes and opened the passenger door so Max could get in, "Yeah well, he's too busy with work to notice... So no worries".

Max rolled his eyes and got into the car and a few seconds later Charles appeared beside him and started to drive.

"Where are we going?" Max asked looking out of the window "I thought we were going to your house?

"We are," Charles said, smiling and not taking his eyes off the road.  . "But I thought it would be good to take a quick drive around the harbour."

Max nods and leans against the door, staring out, the images changing rapidly in his eyes, his thoughts empty.

There is a silence in the car, not uncomfortable, just the two of them enjoying each other's presence. The only sound comes from the radio, playing a French song.

A few moments later they arrive at Charles' house, it takes a few minutes for Charles to find a parking space, and when he does, they walk up to the house.

The house is completely quiet, maybe they've gone out, Max thought as he and Charles made their way to the Monégasque room.

There, Charles lay down on the bed first and Max followed shortly after, putting his head on Charles' chest, he could clearly hear the other's heartbeat, which calmed him completely.

A few moments of silence later, Charles spoke up, his voice betraying a hint of concern, "Hey...Max?" Max hummed, moving his head to look at Charles "What happened?"

"I just...there are times when I've noticed you sitting on your hands to hide them from shaking...and lots of other things that show you're nervous whenever we're together..." Charles paused for a moment and took a deep breath, "Have I done something wrong?"

Max immediately sits up and takes Charles hand in his, squeezing it tightly "No, no, no... It's nothing like that... I just... You haven't done anything. It's just... I really like being around you and that... makes me nervous?" Max asks, and after a long sigh he immediately adds, "But nervous in a good way!"

Charles laughs and shakes his head "That's not even a thing Maxie..."

"Yes it is!" Max says, rolling his eyes and coming back to rest his head on Charles' chest.

"Whatever you say Max," Charles replies, smiling broadly, enjoying this banter between them and they stay like this.

They stay like that until  they both fall asleep.
