As Inuyasha turns around to face the opening of the cave ready to leave with Kagome, Shippo and Kilala. He spots one of Naraku's Saimyōshō spying on him, Kagome, Koga, Shippo, Kilala, Hakkaku and Ginta. He says, "Huh? A poisonous insect!" The Saimyōshō then flies away. Inuyasha then turns to the group and tells them as Kagome looks at him listening, "Keh, you guys stay here. I'll crush him before he gives this place away!" He then turns and runs as he pursues the creature so he could destroy it before it has a chance to reveal their location. Kagome says to him, "Huh?" But unknowing to him the insect was a decoy that was sent to lure him away from the cave.
Renkotsu was hiding near the cave waiting for the group to be left defenseless. Shippo and Kagome sensed a problem when suddenly, an explosion rings out and rock rain down damming the river beneath the cave. Into the maelstrom created by the dammed water sails, a raft of flaming logs surfing down a pitch-black river of oil. Renkotsu's attack begins. Inuyasha finally catches up to the Saimyōshō and slashes it with his claws tearing it into pieces as he says to it, "No, you don't!" He lands on a tree branch laughing happily that he destroyed it. He gets up and he sees the smoke coming from the direction of the cave that Kagome is in. He says, "Huh?" He knows his soul mate is in the cave and could be in serious danger he calls out to her, "Kagome!" Now realizing the Saimyōshō was a hoax; Inuyasha rushes back to the others.
Kagome carrying Shippo on her shoulder looks out of the cave opening seeing the river in front of them in flames, blocking them from escaping. Shippo shouts out, "What is this?!" Kagome replies to him, "It's the Band of Seven!" She then spots Renkotsu standing on top of a mountain with his fire canon. She says, "Huh?" Renkotsu says to Kagome, "I have filled the river with plenty of oil. You're all trapped!" As Kagome and Shippo look up at him Shippo says, "It's Renkotsu!" Kagome sounding annoyed and mad at Renkotsu for attacking them, "Him again." Koga's buddies say to Kagome about the injured Koga, "We gotta move him! It's too dangerous to stay!" Koga tries to get up as he says, "Lousy specter, I'll kill him this time for sure!" One of his buddies shouted at him and said, "Koga!" Kagome runs back inside the cave overhearing Koga say he'll fight Renkotsu while injured. She yells at him, "No! Don't do it, Koga!" One of Koga's friends said, "Huh?" Kagome runs over to where her quiver was with her arrows in it and takes one out along with her bow and picks them both up.
She turns to Koga and says to him, "You're hurt too badly to fight!" She then gets up and runs towards the cave entrance as both Koga's buddies were curious as to what she was going to do as they say, "Huh?" She reaches the cave entrance; she sets her arrow in her bow and aims it up to the other side where Renkotsu is standing on top of the mountain. She says in a determined tone, "I'll get him." She is the only one left that was capable of defending the group; she challenges the heavily armed Renkotsu with just her bow and arrows. She senses his jewel shard in his neck, she knows that is her target as she says, "There it is." Renkotsu sees Kagome aiming her arrow at him and he growls angrily at her. He then takes out his fire canon and fires at her point blank. Kagome sees the fire heading straight towards her fast as she says, "Huh." She turns to her side and closes her eyes thinking it's the end of her. But the deadly shot is deflected by Inuyasha's timely arrival. Right before the fire hits her he jumps over the flames as he says, "Kagome!" and in front of Kagome and then bats the flames away with his arms.
He then quickly picked up Kagome in his arms and leaped inside the cave holding her tight. She looked at him scared as she said to him, "Inuyasha!" He then landed inside the cave in front of Koga, Shippo, Kilala and Koga's buddies and sat her down gently. Inuyasha kneeled down and quickly took off his robe of the fire rat and quickly wrapped it around Kagome. She said, "Huh?" Inuyasha knew that if any of the flames in the river would reach inside the cave where she was, the robe of the fire rat would protect her from being burned alive. As he did Kagome looked at it and said, "Huh?" Inuyasha was way beyond livid. That was the last and final straw for him. That fucking bastard Renkotsu almost killed his soul mate Kagome if he didn't rush over to her. He was going to pay big time for that. No one hurts, harms or tires to kill his soul mate, not while he's alive. Then Kagome saw Inuyasha get up and she said to him, "Huh?" Inuyasha said looking straight out, "Damn that Renkotsu. He must be anxious for me to kill him since he hasn't wasted any time getting here." Kagome hearing that Inuyasha was going to go after Renkotsu, and he'll use his fire canon on him.
She offers him his robe of the fire rat back and said to him, "Here, Inuyasha you should wear this." Shippo added, "She's right! The Robe of the Fire Rat will protect you from the fire!" Inuyasha then turned his head back and looked at Kagome and Shippo and said, "You two wear it. You can't depend on that skinny wolf to help you." Kagome then got up and pleaded with Inuyasha, "Please be careful, Inuyasha." He turned his head to face her wondering why she was worried as he said to her, "Hm?" She continued explaining to him, "Renkotsu is using two jewel shards now." Inuyasha turned away as he said, "Not as many as Bankotsu had!" And he rushes out of the entrance of the cave to go after Renkotsu. Afterwards Renkotsu flies mercilessly as Inuyasha battles back, sword vs cannon. After a huge final blast, it appears. Renkotsu's technology wins as Inuyasha goes down in flames. Kagome and Shippo are outside the cave, seeing the fiery explosion, Kagome still wearing the robe of the fire rat over her fearing the worst. Shippo says, "Inuyasha?" And then Kagome calls out to him worried, "Inuyasha?"
Just as Hakkaku and Ginta join Kagome they see Renkotsu aim his fire canon at Kagome. They say to her, "Huh? Kagome get inside the cave, hurry!" They al run inside fast. Renkotsu fires one more round into the cave harboring Kagome and company. He asks himself, "Did I get them?" Sauntering into the rocky ruins, Renkotsu spots the huddled bodies of his victims, Koga and his buddies were laying on the ground along with Kagome and the robe of the fire rat covered and wrapped around her as Renkotsu congratulates himself on his success as he's eager to claim the Shikon shards in Koga's legs. He says, "It looks like my fire canon incinerated the lot of them." he sees the jewel shards in each of Koga's legs as he says, "Hm." He walks over to Koga and says, "And now for the jewel shards, they're mine at last." He takes out his sword ready to stab open Koga's legs. Renkotsu's revelry is cut short when Koga's leg meets his chin, nearly decapitating him. It knocks him to the ground and his fire canon goes flying out of his arms.
They all wake up and Koga says to him, "You imbecile, nobody is dead in here!" Shippo says to Koga, "You should be grateful, Koga. You might have been incinerated if Kagome hadn't covered you up with Inuyasha's robe." Koga looked back at Shippo and replied, "I'm not crazy about touching anything that belongs to that stinky mutt." Dead or alive, Renkotsu is determined to possess Koga's shards. Producing explosive sticks, he threatens to demolish the group. He laughs evilly, then hears a familiar voice, "Don't push your luck!" Once again good timing intervenes and Inuyasha arrives, seared but alive. He turns to see Inuyasha behind him. Kagome, Shippo and Koga's buddies are overjoyed to see that Inuyasha has come just in time to save them. Kagome and Shippo call out to him, "Inuyasha!" Renkotsu turns around quickly, surprised he survived the explosion. He shouts at him, "You again!" Inuyasha yells at Koga, "Now's your only chance wolf!"
As Renkotsu turns to face Koga, Koga's already charging at him full speed in the air and does a spin kick at him knocking him to the ground. Inuyasha watches him fall to the ground, Kagome, Shippo and Koga's buddies were all happy and cheering for Koga. Shippo says, "Yeah!" Renkotsu gets back up and Koga shouts, "He's up again, mutt!" As he gets up Inuyasha says, "Not for long" as he tackles Renkotsu and the two plummet into the river of flames, igniting the explosives and blowing the dam sky high. After hearing the explosion Kagome starts to worry. She shouts, "Inuyasha? Inuyasha?" As she's now carrying his robe. Hakkaku and Ginta try to calm her down telling her not to worry about Inuyasha, trying to be hopeful for Kagome's sake. "I'm sure we'll find him soon." "He probably got washed up by the riverbank." Then Koga being a pessimist adds, "That's if the mutt wasn't blown into a million pieces."
Kagome upon hearing that stopped in her tracks. She says, "Oh." His harsh statement devastates her, who by now believes he may be right. Hakkaku and Ginta says to Koga, "Don't say that!" "Koga!" Koga then stops and turns to Hakkaku and Ginta saying, "Grr, I'm just telling it like it is. Besides if that idiot hadn't… hmm." He stops talking as he sees Kagome starting to cry on Inuyasha's robe. Hakkaku and Ginta say, "Oh." Kagome thinks to herself, 'Inuyasha's robe of the fire rat is like his armor, but he wasn't wearing it.' Distraught with grief and guilt because she had Inuyasha's fireproof Robe of the Fire Rat when he needed it most, she weeps bitterly. Koga rushes to her, realizing how upset Kagome is Koga tries to comfort her, "Kagome?!" Hakkaku says to Koga, "Oh now you made her cry." Koga tries to calm her down, "No, don't cry please."
Kagome still crying in Inuyasha's robe is feeling more guilty about Inuyasha's outcome and putting the blame on herself as she says to Koga, Hakkaku and Ginta, "It's all my fault. Because he let me wear this!" She starts to cry more and more. Koga tried again to calm her down by saying, "It's not your fault Kagome! I saw what happened. You didn't want to touch that stinky robe anymore!" As Kagome sobs miserably, Koga receives a blow to his head from behind he says, "Huh?" It's Inuyasha who is actually alive, having narrowly avoided the impact of the blow. He says to Koga, "As you were saying, who didn't want to touch it?" as he still had his fist in the air. Hakkaku and Ginta surprised he's alive says, "Oh" "Inuyasha?!" Shippo excitingly jumps on Kagome's shoulder happy to see Inuyasha alive. He says to Inuyasha, "Hey you made it out alive!" Kagome lifts her head up from the robe and sees in front of her a few feet away Inuyasha alive and well she says through her sobbing, "Huh?" Kagome stares at him for a moment trying to make sure she's not imagining he's there in front of her.
