I’m so normal about this ship (also I just realized this whole thing changes POVs like twice :’)

Work Text:

V was tired. Her visor occasionally flashed with [Sleep Mode] before she snapped awake, squinting her eyes, her optics blurrier than normal.

Uzi and N, trailing behind her and Lizzy, seemed to have a similar issue, Uzi having collapsed almost immediately into N’s arms. So N ended up carrying her, his own feet dragging on the ground.

Everyone paused and let out a collective sigh of relief as they neared the bunker.

They were allowed quick access, the guard reframing from his usual chatter as the four drones shuffled inside. They made their ways through the halls in silence, any crowds quickly opening a path for them.

N wordlessly broke away toward the Doorman home, leaving Lizzy and V.

“Wanna stay at my place?” Lizzy asked.

“Robo-god, yes.” V groaned.

V flopped onto the bed with a sigh and Lizzy sat down next to her.

She looked up at the drone, who glanced over at the other bed in the room. “I guess Thad’s not back yet.” Lizzy said with a small frown.

V rolled her eyes. “Honestly, I think that’s a good thing. No offense, but I think your brother needs to learn that not everyone is as obsessed with football as he is.”

“None taken. You do not know the pain of having to listen to him ramble all day.” Lizzy groaned. “But enough of that loser.” She laid down, shuffling so that her head was on the pillow. V sat up so that Lizzy’s legs could fully stretch out.

Lizzy patted the spot beside her, so V also laid down. To say it was a tight fit was a massive understatement. The bed was only a twin sized, not to mention a fourth of it was covered in plushies.

So they somehow ended up with Lizzy’s head resting on V’s chest, but neither of them minded.

Once the two had settled, silence filled the room.

So, naturally, V’s mind filled it with thoughts that flashed through her head at alarming rates.

Soon, the thoughts shifted into memories of what had happened not even a two hours ago.

Particularly, of Tes- Cyn in the hallway, holding N’s body, his chest broken open and spilling oil, his visor displaying [FATAL ERROR] in bright red.

Do your job and I leave you and N alone,” V could still hear it vividly, Cyn’s eerie voice echoing, infesting her mind, “ right, V?”

I-I can still-” V had whispered, her voice cracking with panic because holy shit N is dead N is dead NisdeadNisdeadNisde-

V’s eyes widened and hollowed, and suddenly she couldn’t breathe , her chest rising and falling rapidly to try and make up for the lack of air.

She sat up, straight as an arrow, throwing Lizzy off her. V clutched her chest, which felt as heavy as an entire planet.

“V?” Lizzy called her friend's name, recognizing the signs of a panic attack.

“N… N is-” V gasped out, choking on a sob.

“N’s okay, V,” Lizzy said in a softer tone. “We just saw him. He’s okay.”

That seemed to do little to comfort the disassembly drone. V’s tail began to whip around, the nanite stinger swaying dangerously close to her body.

“V, is it okay to touch you?” Lizzy asked, reaching out a hand.

V opened her mouth, but all that came out was a gasping sob, so instead she nodded.

Lizzy gently laid a hand on V’s shoulder, feeling the disassembly drone’s panicked heart rate.

However, it seemed to slow, just a bit, at the touch. But Lizzy didn’t go any farther than that.

But V seemingly thought otherwise, as her panicked gaze met Lizzy’s before she all but tackled the worker drone in a fierce hug.

Lizzy was startled at first, before carefully wrapping her arms around V.

V buried her face into the crook of Lizzy’s neck, finally letting out the built up cries that had been crawling up her throat. Lizzy rubbed comforting circles on V’s back, whispering reassurances into her audio receptors.

But V’s breath was still fast and shaky. “V,” Lizzy said, hoping to ground the drone more, “if you can talk, can you tell me five things you can see?”

V sniffled and raised her head to observe the room. “I see… y-you…” she started slowly, her gaze slowly scanning the room, “Thad’s bed, the TV, y-your desk…” she paused, her gaze darting around, “A-and that cat plushie,” V finished, her gaze landing on the oldest looking plushie on Lizzy’s bed.

“Good job,” Lizzy murmured, a small smile on her face as she heard V take in a deep, clear breath.

After a few minutes of V crying, she slowly sat up and scooted away from Lizzy. “…sorry, I don’t know what happened I jus-”

“Girl, don’t you dare frickin apologize,” Lizzy interrupted with a finger wag, “you had a panic attack, that’s all. And I totally get why. Honestly I’m surprised you didn’t have one sooner.”

“Wait. That was a panic attack? ” V asked.

“…yeah?” Lizzy said slowly.

“Damn. I mean, I guess I kinda remember having a few before…” V gestured to her tail and extra eyes, “…this happened, but I didn’t remember remember what they were like.”

V turned to Lizzy, her visor flushed, “thanks for… helping me, I guess…” she mumbled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.

“Hm? Oh, uh, yeah, anything for my bestie.” Lizzy said, her own visor displaying a blush for some reason.

The two quickly looked at each other, then away, lost in their own worlds.

“Hey, uh… Lizzy?” V said, shattering the awkward silence.

Lizzy looked over at V, “yeah?”

“What would you think of being… more than best friends?” She asked slowly, nervously.

Lizzy’s eyes widened, her blush intensifying. Did V just… there’s no way… I totally heard that wrong-

“O-only if you wanted, of course!” V said quickly, “‘cause if you don’t, then, uh, just forget I said any-”

Lizzy cut V off by leaning over and grabbing the front of V’s jacket, connecting their lips in a kiss.

V’s eyes flew open before fluttering shut. She leaned into the kiss with a hum, trying to be just as soft and gentle as Lizzy.

Far too soon, the two broke apart.

“Was… was that okay?” Lizzy asked, looking into V’s eyes.

“More than okay,” V breathed, her gentle voice sending shivers down Lizzy’s spine.

V leaned forward, placing one hand on Lizzy’s back, the other around her waist, once again connecting them in a slow, gentle kiss.

When they parted, V placed her forehead on Lizzy’s, keeping her eyes shut for a few minutes before bringing up a hand to cup Lizzy’s face. “So… Do you want to be my girlfriend?”

“Of course,” Lizzy said with a smile, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend in a tight hug.

V lowered herself so that Lizzy was once again laying on her chest, this time secured with two strong arms and a tail around her waist.

“Now, I dunno about you, but I could sleep for a century,” V said, half her sentence engulfed in a yawn.

“Oh, definitely.” Lizzy agreed. She closed her eyes, and starting playing rain sounds from her speakers. There was never rain on Copper-9, but the sound was still relaxing.

Soon enough, the two drones were tightly embraced with [sleep mode] displaying on their visors.

Notes:

Thanks for reading! I hope I portrayed the panic attack accurately, they can be pretty tough to write
