Chapter 1: 'Cause I'll never change all my colors for you

Chapter Text

The orange and pink sunset was forming in the immense sky. Shoyo on his knees in front of the big net, not even he could analyze the great feat he had accomplished and if he could go back to those high school memories where they had directly promised each other to be the opponent who would win against Kageyama and there they both were. His mind came back to himself as Bokuto and Atsumu arrived first to hug him from behind, screaming euphorically and full of sweat as they whipped Hinata back and forth. A second of reality, he had scored a spike that automatically put the score 34-32 on the scoreboard in favor of the MSBYs.

Hinata looked up to see Kageyama who even though he had lost the match was smiling proudly. The whole stadium accompanied the MSBY celebration with tears, sweat and shouts. It was his turn to thank the other team and the public but there was a problem, when he got up he felt a strong and sharp momentary pain in his left calf that made him stay on the ground for a few seconds.

—Hinata? —asked Sakusa worried, he approached and touched Hinata's back softly —. Did you get hurt?

—No no, I just had a slight dizziness. I am fine.

Hinata had to stand up and hold on to Atsumu's arm, they greeted the audience with a big smile and he could not avoid shouting with emotion when he noticed among the audience his teammates; Sugawara, Daichi, Asahi, Tsukishima, Yachi, Kiyoko, Yamaguchi, Tanaka, Nishinoya, Ennoshita, Narita and Hisashi were watching while radiating pride and happiness, he could also see familiar faces like his sponsor and friend Kenma, Kuroo and Lev accompanying him. Little details and exact moments that filled him with joy, it was because of them that he was here and it was them that were part of his huge dream come true.

—Shoyo! —Nishinoya shouted, running to him, soon they were both united in the hug.

Both wrapped in tears and to which soon everyone else was wrapped in a big, warm, strong hug. All those familiar faces that were like family, even more almost broke down in tears when he saw Kenma, Kuroo and Lev on the other side smiling happily for him.

They all joined in a nearby restaurant to drink, talk and laugh about all those high school memories. The cold rain and light winds were blowing in Tokyo, but Hinata could only feel warmth for how he felt. Although that slight discomfort in his leg was starting to hurt a little more though.

—And all those finishing touches, you're totally a ninja Shoyo. You always exceed all my expectations —said Nishinoya excitedly —. I will tell everyone I meet that I played side by side with the great Hinata Shoyo.

Hinata smiled blushing, apart from the fact that he was drunk all those words filled his heart.

—I'm so proud of all of you, we all have to get together for Tsukishima's next match —said Sugawara elbowing the blond who opened his eyes wide while drinking a shot of sake.

—No need.

—Oh come on, Tsukki, everyone at this table can't wait to see you on a court again —said Kuroo who was sitting all the way across the table —. Besides, you all owe the Nekoma a good dumpster fight.

—Kuroo, we are no longer students —Daichi remarked.

—Please, even Kenma is excited for another match like this.

—Really I'm not —said Kenma who was taking a selfie with Hinata, both with thumbs up —. It's going to make a good miniature for the video.

—Or is it because you're all so rusty that you can't play anymore? —said Kuroo trying to tease them.

—Excuse me? -Tanaka asked.

Kuroo had gotten all the crows to pay attention to his words. Even Kenma and Lev smiled at the provocation.

—I'm just saying, how many years has it been since the last one?

—Surely Ukai is still taking the Karasuno to matches against the Nekoma —said Asahi.

—What Kuroo wants is a match between our generation, I can rent a gym for a few hours so we can play —said Kenma.

—I don't know, probably everyone has work and full schedules —said Daichi.

—The loser will have to pay for the drinks at the next outing.

There was no response other than an "we accept" all together. Of course their ego made the bet go up in money, make a video where they chanted a cheer for the other team, a whole spa day paid for the winning team, t-shirts that would say "losing team" and wear them for a week, drink from a shoe, everyone would eat a raw egg and among other ridiculous things, plus it would be uploaded as a video on Kenma's channel.

Between drinks they also agreed to invite the Fukordani generation and they all signed an agreement where they committed to play that game and whoever refused or broke the agreement would be exposed. They all agreed to do the same.

Shoyo laughed at the friendly rivalry of all those and when he analyzed the smiles of each one, he observed Kageyama, serious but that didn't mean he was unhappy. He just seemed to appreciate it better from the outside. Soon Hinata realized what time it was, almost one in the morning and he did not have a good experience about not sleeping.

Hinata quickly said goodbye to everyone in the middle of the discussion and ran away. The moment he was turning to the street he felt that pain again, he still had to walk a little further to catch a cab or call someone to come and get him.

—Hinata, why don't you wait a little longer? —It was Kageyama behind him —. I can give you a ride.

—Ah, Kegayema, don't worry. I'll call Sakusa to come and get me.

Hinata was not looking straight ahead and crashed into a lamppost, falling to the ground. Kageyama rushed to help him up, but Hinata avoided him. Her leg continued to hurt, he just needed to endure the pain a little longer and get to the hotel for some aspirin or paracetamol and sleep for a while.

—You're drunk, let me carry you —Kageyama offered his hand again.

—Of course not, I'm in perfect condition.

Hinata got up staggering and trying to go on her way. But between the dizziness from the alcohol, the pain in his leg and the rain, his foot slipped causing him to fall again.

A breaking point and a pained scream choked in his throat.

—You're only going to get yourself hurt —said Kageyama already fed up with the situation having the need to use brute force to drag Hinata until he saw his face.

That same face he had seen before, the day he had given Hinata a fever. His eyes filled with tears and his hand holding her calf, his mouth letting out silent sobs and besides his clothes wet from the rain. Kageyama opened his eyes in surprise, Hinata was injured.
