Work Text:
Atsumu's gaze focuses on Osamu, watching his brother humiliate himself in front of him.
“‘Samu…” his words are quiet, barely over a whisper and his eyes flick towards their boss, and returns to Osamu.
Osamu kneels in front of Kita, barking like a dog to answer his questions and apologize for betraying him. When he speaks Japanese, he gets punched. If he answers back, he gets punched. And if he forgets his place, he gets punched.
He's already got bruises on his face and a swollen cheek with an indent of the ring on Kita's finger.
Atsumu stares as Kita stands, dusting his foot on Osamu's pants and walks towards him. He locks eyes with Kita as he approaches, fists clenched tightly and he's tempted to hurt him back.
Kita stops. He stares. He smirks. And he leaves.
Hot tears well in Atsumu’s eyes as he rushes to help Osamu stand.
“We don't have to work for him anymore, ‘Samu, let's get outta here,” he murmurs, cupping his face. His pupils are still blown out as he observes the injuries and his thumb brushes over the blood stained on Osamu’s face.
“Let's run away together, where he can't find us and we’ll live peacefully. Forget all about this,” he practically begs, fingers trembling against Osamu's cheeks.
Osamu leans his forehead against Atsumu's, eyes not leaving his own and his pupils dilate with each strained breath. He swipes his tongue across his lips and winces.
“Let's just finish what we have to do,” Osamu whispers, “we're so close.”
Atsumu laughs—but nothing's funny. He thinks, how insane is Osamu?
“So you're just gonna take all the beatings for no reason?! Huh?! What fuckin’ sense does that make?” He grabs Osamu's wrists tightly as tears roll over his cheeks. “Let's just go.”
Osamu stares at him expressionless, before ripping his hand away from his grasp and strikes him across his jaw.
“If you want to run, you go on your own, ‘Tsumu. I'm not leaving until I can reap my rewards.”
Atsumu stumbles back, cupping his jaw and hisses at the oncoming pain. He furrows his eyebrows and looks at Osamu, but he's already gone.
He turns around, and watches as Osamu follows behind Kita, like a trustworthy dog.
And it makes Atsumu's heart fall apart.
