Chapter 1: In Hell

Chapter Text

You get up tentatively your whole body inexplicably sore. Looking up, you find yourself in an alley of what seems like a city flooded in red. Propping yourself up on the brick wall you start to race your mind to figure out what happened. You were walking through the forest near your isolated cabin at the start of spring, you bent down to investigate some tracks. Seems like the deer were coming back to the area. You heard a clumsy crackle of a broken tree branch, a loud bang, and then black. The next thing you remember was waking up here. Sighing you thought about your current predicament and decided that wasn't important right now. You had to figure out where you were, and how to get back home.

Slowly, you made your way out of the alley way. The streets were desolate, blood splattered the walls, broken widows shined angrily at every street corner. In the distance you saw a large tower that almost looked like the bing bang that said "Days Until Next Extermination 0." Looking up higher you saw the source of the red light, a large pentagram in the sky.

"DING DONGGGGGG"

A loud bell startled you out of your observation of the city. You looked up at the tower again to see the numbers swivel frantically from 0 to 365. You couldn't shake the feeling that all of this seemed familiar. Like you've seen it before in a movie... No... an anime? No... You looked at your hands and saw they had four fingers. You touch your face to feel it mostly the same... except for a set of doe ears pushing through your hair. You feel your neck and clothes, the same sundress you were wearing earlier, and all of your jewelry still in place. However, underneath the dress your legs felt different, and you looked to see that your feet have turned to hooves, and your tail bone felt like it had an actual little tail on it. Seems like where ever you are, you are now part doe? You hear a lightning bolt in the opposite direction from the tower, a large building saying "Hazbin Hotel" glows lightly with smoke still billowing out of the newly added "z" in the name.

"Ohh shit." You can't help but groan outloud as you realize where you are and why this looks familiar. You watched this adult cartoon almost a decade ago but remember it so vividly now. Hazbin hotel, about a made up version of Hell where sinners go when they die, and Charlie the daughter of Lucifer who tries to rehabilitate demons. Memories flood your mind of the show, watching it and all the theory videos behind it, all the characters names and appearances flying in your mind eye. Charlie, what a sweetie. I am sure Vaggie would be scary. Angel Dust! Oh maybe Fat Nuggets is here too and... Alastor. A very weird emotion swelled up in you at remembering that name.

He was a little fleeting obsession. A character crush one might say. One you felt particularly weird about as he was clearly an evil demon, serial killer, cannibal even and at the time you were just an innocent little college gal. And yet something about him just made your insides do flips at that time. You watched his songs so much you had most of them memorized, you remember videos of the theories behind his back story. Oh and all the fanfiction you read. Eventually the seasons passed, and the memory faded as you kept living on. Ironically, the more you forgot him it seemed, the more like him you became. You laughed at yourself as a brief "what if now it could actually happen?" thought sparked and died down. This is not the time for that! Still, your first order of business needed to be getting somewhere NOT in the middle of a street in hell while barely being able to stand.

You looked around, and were not convinced of the safety of your current surroundings. Well, you think, looking up at the hotel sign again, honestly it seems like a safer place than here. Being run by the princess of hell, and with Alastor sworn not to hurt the residents, you at least wouldn't have to worry about your immediate safety. With your mind made up you hobbled your way over to the hotel, a few blocks down. The energy of your body seemed to be draining steadily as you walked. By the time you reached the doors you were breathing heavily, body aching. With what last strength you had you knocked on the door.

"Ohhhh another visitor! So soon!" You hear Charlie's iconic sweet voice bubble up from the other side of the door. She opened the door with a wide smile. "Oh hello!!! Are you here to try your shot at redemption?"

"I... don't know." You say honestly, not sure there is redemption for someone like you. "But I..." shit, you didn't think about what to tell them. Probably would be best not to reveal you know what is about to go on for the next 6 months right off the bat. You made a split second decision to not lie, but to not reveal to much either. "I spawned a few blocks from here in an alley..." You started trying to explain yourself but your mind went dark in a haze and your body crumbled to the ground. You heard worried screeches from Charlie as your head raced towards the ground and the world went black.
