Work Text:
"Kunikida-kun~"
That's not what Kunikida expected to hear after his tiring day of work. It's already after 8pm and he should be already at home for an hour. His schedule got ruined by the man who's sitting across him. His ideal schedule. Kunikida is known as a man of ideals, always keeping up with his ideal schedule and yet, he still can't get used to Dazai, who always ruins his plans. He is forced to do Dazai's work once more because his coworker decided to slack off for the whole day, again. Kunikida stopped typing on keyboard and closed his laptop, of course saving "his" work before doing it, and looked at Dazai.
"What do you want now, Dazai?" Kunikida asked, sounding annoyed as he crossed his arms.
"Let's go to aquarium tomorrow!" Dazai suggested, as he sounds and looks excited about the idea.
Kunikida's eyes wide slightly, not expecting this type of answer from him. Before he can say something else, the other man speaks.
"I know your're free tomorrow, I already checked."
Kunikida wanted to protest but then he realized, Dazai took his ideal notebook again. He reached for his notebook and opened at one of his pages. First thing he notcied was Dazai's handwriting and that he wrote their meeting for tomorrow. Kunikida's cheeks flushed a bit after he noticed one word - "a date". Kunikida knows that Dazai probably teases him, since Dazai always tries to get on his nerves, as the taller detective tries to brush off his thoughts from his mind. After all, this waste of good bandages wouldn't have feelings for him, right? Right? It's not like that Kunikida has feelings for Dazai either, but he couldn't but notice they grew up closer to each other lately. Kunikida's thoughts got distracted when the mentioned man spoke again.
"So?" Dazai asked, impatiently waiting for his friend's answer.
Kunikida closed his notebook as he looked at him.
"Fine, we can go." Kunikida answered, crossing his arms on his chest again.
Dazai's smile widened after hearing Kunikida's answer, he immediately placed a small piece of paper with address in front of Kunikida. Kunikida reached for it and read the address.
"Meet me here at 12pm!" Dazai said as he reached for his trench coat and wear it. His voice is full of excitement. "See ya tomorrow, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai said as he immediately went to the exit and left the Agency's office.
When Kunikida realized what just happened he got up from his chair.
"Dazai-! Wai-!" He yelled but he stopped, realizing it doesn't make any sense because the bandaged man already left the office.
He sat on his chair again, letting out a sigh, knowing that Dazai left him with all his work. He opened up his laptop again since he still needs to finish Dazai's work. Kunikida looked once more at the address and he can't help but wonder what Dazai planned for tomorrow.
----
For the next day, Kunikida is already close to the destination which Dazai was talking about. Looking at the address he wonders why Dazai chose this place. He never noticed that Dazai shows any interests about ocean creatures. When Kunikida arrived, he would notice a lot of tourists, definetly not only from Japan or just Yokohama. Kunikida walked through these all people with hope to find less crowded place. When it happened he looked at his watch on his wrist. Perfect. It's perfectly 12pm and now he only needs to find Dazai with hope that this man won't be late like he usually is. Kunikida looks around, trying to find his coworker. Kunikida turned around and saw Dazai nearly gates, of course Kunikida didn't expect Dazai to be at time and even before him. His surprised face was enough to make Dazai chuckle. The brunette waves to him, having two tickets in his hand as he laughs in meantime. Kunikida walked towards him, as Dazai stopped laughing and waving. Dazai spoke first.
"I knew you'll be on time, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai said, sounding as excited as yesterday, his smile didn't wash off from his face. "One is yours." Dazai added, offering one of tickets to Kunikida.
"Thank you" Kunikida answered, taking ticket to his hand.
When Dazai saw that Kunikida took one of tickets he immediately took Kunikida's hand and pulled him towards the gates so they could finally scan their tickets and start their small tour. After that Kunikida looked around the main hall which was already full of people. Inside this place walls were deep blue with some marine animals painted on it. Kunikida wasn't very delighted but when he looked at the other man he could notice how much he admires everything.
Dazai's smile is something what Kunikida secretly likes about him. No matter how annoying Dazai is, the fact he admires painted animals on the walls, especially if they can enter other room where he could see real marine animals, is something admirable. Dazai's eyes lights up when he saw inscription "jellyfish" above the entrance of first section. It caused Kunikida to realize that he finds Dazai's expression is pretty adorable as well. His cheeks flushed a little but he quickly brush his thoughts off his mind and his face skin color came back to normal.
"Let's go there first!" Dazai said, looking at Kunikida as he pointed the alley with jellyfish.
Kunikida looked where Dazai wanted to go and nodded, showing him to lead the way. Dazai immediately started walking through the people to the place Dazai mentioned and Kunikida just followed him as he tried to not lose him. Kunikida knows that both of them are tall, even if Kunikida is a bit taller, but he knows that losing Dazai wouldn't be a hard challange.
When they entered, Dazai looked up and first thing he saw are jellyfish swimming above them, as he let out a soft gasp. It was a long tunnel with glass instead of walls so jellyfish were visible. Dazai smiled reaching for his phone to take few pictures. Kunikida in meantime looks at these creatures as well. With his usual and serious expression he watches swimming jellyfish. He must admit it, they're beautiful. Different colors of jellyfish caused that they look even more beautiful as some of them even glow in the darker part of aquarium.
Walking next to Dazai he sometimes takes a look at the other man who's taking a picture of every single jellyfish he only could see. Kunikida is still able to see exctitement in Dazai's eyes, he really didn't expect him to be so excited about their meeting, or maybe the detective started imagining things now. He let out a soft sigh, coming back to his own business, which was watching these creatured by his own, but only for a moment because the brunette decided to interrupt him. Dazai stood in front of him, as Kunikida looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
"Let's take a picture, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai spoke to him, pointing with his finger at free spot to take a picture with swimming jellyfish in the background.
Kunikida frowned, as he started thinking. After all, it's just a photo and it wouldn't hurt, right?
"Fine" Kunikida answered, wanting to cross his arms again but he didn't do that because of Dazai.
Dazai just smiled, again grabbing Kunikida's hand and pulling him to this free spot. Kunikida just followed him, not even having other option to do so.
When both of them stood in there, Dazai wrapped his arm around his friend's shoulder. Kunikida got surprised by his act but he didn't do anything about this. Dazai reached out his hand in front of them with his phone. Looking at Dazai's phone he could notice the other man's smile. Dazai took the best moment to take a picture and when he did it he immediately went into his gallery to see how it turned out. Dazai was smiling brightly comparing to Kunikida who had neutral expression on his face, few yellow and blue jellyfish were in the background. Kunikida crossed his arms as both of them looked at the picture.
"Awh, this is so bad!" Dazai pretended a pout, as he looked at Kunikida. "You should smile more, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai said, teasing him, he has the same teasing smile he has in the office.
Kunikida frowned when he looked at him but he didn't answer to him since he didn't want to scold Dazai in the public place, he let it pass this time.
After that, both of them moved to other alley in the oceanarium. Stingrays - it was the inscription above the entrace of another glass tunnel. When they walked in Kunikida looked at Dazai who was already mesmerized by another ocean creatures. Kunikida is not surprised tho - he likes stingrays so knowing that his coworker likes them as well actually pleased him. Knowing that he has something in common with Dazai was unexpected but not in negative way. Kunikida and Dazai are opposites of each other and even though they are different in almost every way they still find something in common. It probably caused that they grew up closer to each other already which Kunikida noticed earlier but none of them seems to camplain about it, especially not Dazai who's taking pictures of swimming stingrays at the moment. The blonde knows that he will have to write this later in his notebook. The silence between them, which wasn't uncomfortable, ended when Kunikida decided to bring up a subject instead of letting Dazai speak first.
"I didn't know you like marine animals" Kunikida started, as Dazai stopped taking pictures and paid attention to Kunikida. "Excluding your canned crabs in your fridge of course." Kunikida added after a while.
When his friend mentioned canned crabs Dazai chuckled even though Kunikida was right. Dazai likes canned crabs and it is the only one thing he sometimes has in the kitchen when Kunikida doesn't buy him other food. It's obvious that Kunikida knows about canned crabs which Dazai likes so much. However, Kunikida didn't know that Dazai actually likes living marine animals and something else than crabs.
"You don't know a lot of things about me yet, Kunikida-kun." Dazai said with his usual teasing smirk on his face, as he watches Kunikida's reaction.
Kunikida knows that he is right in this situation. He doesn't know a lot about Dazai's past, maybe about the man in general as well, but it's not like that he doesn't know anything. He knows things that Dazai already told him or he learned by himself during the time they work together and nothing more because he didn't dig more into it. Taller detective knows that Dazai isn't willing to talk about his past and he knows that when the time is right Dazai will tell him more.
Kunikida's reaction wasn't one which Dazai expected to be. When Kunikida started walking away to come back to watch animals without answering to him, Dazai let out a soft, pretended, gasp and he quickly followed Kunikida to not get him out of sight.
----
After hours of walking and spending time together both of them finally decided to leave. It's not like Kunikida didn't prorpose to leave earlier but Dazai always disagreed with him because of how much he enjoyed spending time here. Few times they were coming back to the same places they have been before to take more photos or watch marine animals again, but Kunikida didn't complain about it. Even if he didn't show it, he enjoyed their time together despite the fact he found some of Dazai's behavior childish, but for his own surprise - not annoying. He can only deduce why Dazai behaves this way. Brunette was forced to be a man when he was a child, the youngest executive in the Port Mafia, so when he's finally adult and free he can allow himself to be a child he didn't have a chance to be.
Kunikida got distracted when Dazai suddenly pulled him somewhere. When Kunikida saw they entered souvenirs shop he sighed. Dazai let go of his arm and started walking through the crowd of people to find something he can buy for himself. This store is too small to keep so many people here for sure. Kunikida started looking around by himself without planning to buy anything at first. He could notice a lot of plushies and fridge magnets. He also found some keychains Dazai would definetly find adorable. When he paid attention for them Kunikida had to fight the urge to not buy them, but he failed. He took both keychains and went to cash to pay for them. One of them looks like jellyfish and other one looks like a crab. He only hoped that Dazai didn't buy the same things as him.
After he paid he carefully put keychains in his pocket and walked to the exit of this store because he didn't want this shop to be more crowded than already was. When he walked out he looked around to find Dazai and when he found him, the man was already walking to the exit and waving to Kunikida. With a sigh he walked to him and this time he was the one who grabbed his hand to pull him so Dazai will follow him to leave the aquarium, not even looking what Dazai is holding in his hands.
Not letting go of his hand even after they left the aquarium the cool air hit both of them. It was pleasurable feeling after they spend the whole day in this place. Looking on the right both of them could notice sunset, as the sun already began to hide behind the sea horizon. Both of them walked to handrail by the sea. Looking at the colorful sky probably both of them forgot that they are still holding hands. The view is breathtaking. Sky color mixed between blue, orange and pink looks beautiful, no, mesmerizing. Clouds only gave more attraction towards it because of their shape. Sky also started turning into more dark colors which gave also mix of purple here. The reflextion in the sea when both of them could notice birds flying because of it caused sparkle in Dazai's eyes. Dazai leaned his head against Kunikida's shoulder but the other man didn't push him off.
"It's beautiful" Dazai said, his voice didn't sound like he's teasing Kunikida this time, it was rather quiet which is unusual for Dazai.
"It is" Kunikida answered and it caused Dazai to take his head away from his shoulder.
This move caused Kunikida to look at him. Their faces are pretty close at this moment, as their noses are few inches away from touch. Kunikida looked at Dazai, still being able to see this small sparkle in his dark brown eyes along the small excitement Dazai had for the whole time. Staying in the silence, both of them didn't notice when their faces started getting closer to each other. Dazai moved his fingers in his friend's hand causimg them to interwining their fingers together. Kunikida moved his free hand to his cheek and Dazai leant into this touch and titling his head a bit. Their lips are few inches away and both of them almost closed their distance, Dazai rubs with his thumb back of Kunikida's hand. Leaning even closer, tehy closed eyes and their lips finally touched and met into soft kiss.
Dazai didn't expect that Kunikida's lips would be so soft and Kunikida didn't expect Dazai's lips to be so soft as well. Kunikida moves his thumb on his cheek as they kiss, stroking his cheek gently. Their lips move in soft motion, clearly enjoying their presence. None of them rush things because they don't want to ruin this moment. Their kiss is soft and gentle, as both of them are trying to pour some love into this kiss. Kunikida couldn't believe that Dazai can have feelings for him, Dazai thinks excatly in the same way and yet, both of them are kissing each other and having beautiful sunset behind them.
When their kiss ended, both of them pulled away from each other. Dazai opened his eyes and looked at Kunikida with soft gaze, without mischievousness or without intention of teasing him, he also smiled warmly to him. Kunikida also looked at him and when he saw Dazai's smile, he smiled a bit as well. When the other man saw that he stopped leaning into Kunikida's hand and he gasped.
"Kunikida-kun is smiling for the first time!" Dazai said, sounding pretty excited.
"What?!" Kunikida asked, as he adjusted his glasses. "I'm always smiling!" he protested, crossing his arms on his chest.
Kunikida's reaction caused Dazai to laugh, almost dropping things he has in his hand. When he realized that he stopped laughing and offered something to Kunikida. When he looked at it he saw it was stingray plush. He took this small thing to him hand and looked at Dazai.
"Thank you" Kunikida said, as he smiled a bit again. "I've bought you something as well"
After Kunikida said that he reached to his pocket and took the crab keychain he bought earlier. When Kunikida offered it to him, Dazai gasped again. He took it in his hands and smiled widely after he saw this. Kunikida was right when he thought he'd find it adorable. Not expecting this, Kunikida got hugged by Dazai. His eyes wide as he wrapped his one arm around the other man.
"Thank you, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai said, burying his face in crook of his neck.
Kunikida let Dazai to cling onto him for a while. He's not big fan of public display of affection even though he kissed Dazai earlier. He can make short exception for Dazai. Kunikida was glad he managed to see Dazai's smile for the whole day.
After a while, Kunikida patted Dazai's back, giving him a sign that he doesn't want this hug to continue. Dazai let go of him but instead of that, he grabbed Kunikida's hand and looked at him. Kunikida nods in approval and sighs, as he interwinded their fingers together. Both of them started walking, as they live next to each other in Agency's dorms so none of them have to say anyhting about where they are going. However, Dazai wanted to ask last question.
"So, do you think it was a date?" Dazai asked in mocking tone, having smirk on his face.
Kunikida looked at him, being quiet for a moment. He remindered himself that Dazai wrote in his notebook that their meeting is a date. Kunikida started thinking for a moment until he decided to answer him.
"It was." Kunikida said, squeezing his hand lightly and leading the way to their dorms.
