Work Text:

A crash in her living room wakes her up and instantly gets her on high alert. Regina takes the gun by her bedside table and drapes her sheet over her body. Summer in Los Angeles has compelled her to sleeping in the nude in the past few days. Opening her bedroom door, she cautiously totters towards the noise, pointing her gun out to her front, her other hand clutching the sheets close.

“I have a gun. Whoever you are, motherfucker, you picked the wrong house to rob.” She shouts to no one in particular. Her eyes shift to a slight movement in the living room, a person is standing by the window. “Show me your hands, you son of a bitch!”

They put their hands up, “Wow, two curses in one night your majesty! I don’t think your mother would approve.” came the intoxicated voice of a woman.

“Emma? What the hell are you doing here?” the journalist was stunned, they haven’t talked since they ended their arrangement months ago.

“That’s three for the night, Regina.”

Light fills the room as the brunette switches them on. “Oh my god Emma, what happened to you? You’re bleeding.” She sets down the gun and faces the blonde, concern written all over her face.

The Deputy District Attorney turns around then to face the woman who has been plaguing every recess of her mind. “You don’t play fair Regina.” She takes in the nearly nude form of the gorgeous news anchor. She swallows the sudden need to prop the woman in the kitchen bar and do all things she has been yearning. Her mouth betrays her, “God! You’re gorgeous, did you know that?” Another thought pops to her mind, “What if I had really been a robber, huh? You’re going to face them practically naked?” Fear courses through her, realizing what could’ve happened to her if what she said really happened.

“Stop deflecting Ms. Swan and answer the damn question.” she demands the other woman. “You’re maddening you know that?”

“I am maddening? Me?” she says incredulously. The clearly inebriated woman strides towards the already incensed woman, standing at arm’s length. She dared not close the gap lest her resolve break. “I told Lily about us. She left me.” she confesses. She looks at the woman before her and earnestly waits for her to respond. The brunette just scoffs at her, completely dismissing her revelation. Her heart takes a nosedive. It must’ve been obvious on her face as the woman finally speaks.

“What do you want me to say? Did you expect me to jump with glee? That after three months of your self-destruction you finally had the guts to come clean to your wife?”

“This is our time Regina, finally, I am free. Isn’t this what you wanted?”

“I wanted you to fight for me when you had everything to lose. I didn’t ask for you to raze your life. You did it yourself. And now you want me pick up the pieces?”

“You can’t just throw away this connection, I know you feel it too. This is all of me, you can have me!”

“I had pegged you for a coward, Emma Swan, but not this foolish, reckless idiot. You can see yourself out.” The journalist turns away from her, but the district attorney takes her hand and pulls her to her front. With faces a mere inch apart, the blonde implores to the brunette, “then explain to me how I am such an idiot.”

“If you have to debase yourself in order to be with me, then you don’t deserve me, prosecutor.”

“I don’t want to let you go; I can’t let you go. I need you! Can’t you see that?”

“You sound like an addict, unhand me this instant!”

“You’re a vice Regina Mills, one that I can’t just wean myself off.” She crashes her mouth to the shocked journalist, her hands roam along the silk sheets, memorizing the curves that she had been craving all these months. It takes a moment for her to realize that the agonizingly beautiful woman is not kissing her back. She stops instantly.

“We can’t Emma. I need to rebuild my self-respect. I’ve already taken a job in Atlanta. I just turned in my resignation, effective immediately.” She forcefully disentangles herself from the lawyer and walks out of the room.

Emma doesn’t know how she got back from her car and how she drove all the way up Hollywood Hills. Her mind froze and a ringing in her ears started when she heard those last words from the woman that she loves. Yes, she loves, it took her three months to realize it. It was too late. She’s gone. A devastating cry emanates from deep within her. It is there in the loneliness of the night that she really felt that she lost everything.

Notes:

If this scene seems familiar, it was inspired by an episode of Boomtown. This was not Lana's character's part but during the scene all I saw was Swan Queen. I changed the scene a lot specially the ending.

I am not planning to expand this but feel free to use this as a prompt if you are interested. Don't hesitate to comment below, if you need someone to exchange ideas with. :)
