All The City Lights Never Shine as Bright as Your Eyes

Summary:

He finishes swiping the floor and moves behind the counter to put away the left over pastries of the day when he hears the bell from the entrance door jingling.

“Sorry, but we’re already closed.”

He says from where he’s crouched behind the counter looking for a box.

“Oh, I saw the lights on and thought that you were still open. I’m sorry.”

It takes a moment for the voice to get through his tired brain, but when it does, the blonde gets up in a second, dark spots blink on his vision as he gapes at the sight of the man standing in the middle of his cafe. His black clothes are a contrast against the pastel colors of the place, he wears a black mask on his face and a black cap on top of his head, but Felix would recognize that voice and those upturned eyes anywhere.

Hwang Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin is standing in his store in all his glory. Felix’s favorite idol, the man he has had a crush on since before his debut is standing there as if it was any other ordinary Tuesday night.

Notes:

Hello, lovelies ♥️
It's been a while, I have been in a terrible case of writer's block, but I would like to thank Come_on_baby for all the kind comments they left on my fics, it really helped me to find the will to write again 🥰
This was supposed to be something sweet and short but ended up being more than 14k words, so I split it into two chapters, I'll post the second one this week, just need to review it first.
As always, English isn't my first language and I don't have a beta, so all mistakes are my own.
I hope you enjoy this story and that it brings you comfort 🥰

P.S: For reference, Felix looks like in the airport from when he went to LV show and Hyunjin looks like the K-Con show.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

Felix is exhausted, he sighs as he swipes the floor, his arms feel like lead but he knows that he has to leave everything clean so he can start the day tomorrow, or today, considering how late it is. He takes in a deep breath as he looks around his cafe, even if he’s tired, he can’t stop the satisfied smile that spreads on his lips.

The Fairy’s Cafe is his dream. Since he was a child, he loved to help his mother bake for their family and his love only grew since then, the culinary classes at high school helped him understand what he wanted for his life and it was to have his own bakery. It wasn’t easy, still isn’t, he saved up from his half time job during high school and college and worked his ass off so he could buy the two store building where he now works and lives.

He wanted a place that would make people feel welcome but with a touch of magic, so the place is decorated like something out of a fairytale, vines and fairy lights hanging from the ceiling and the shelves that display the breads, flowers adorn the glass counter where he keeps the pastries, the floor is made of cream colored wood, the walls painted in light blue, he wanted to add some art to them but he has zero painting skills, so he just hang the vines and lights along the walls.

At this hour, there’s not much left in the shelves and that warms his heart, it’s impossible to not have leftovers but most of the delicacies are gone at the end of the day. Felix has always been active on social medias – has always posted videos of himself cooking –, so he made a lot of propaganda before opening. He thought that after a few days, the hype would die, but he has been receiving a constant number of customers every day for the two months since the opening.

Even if he chose a side street for the cafe there’s always people walking by the streets, there’s an idol company close by and people usually hang around expecting to catch a glimpse of one of the idols. Felix particularly has never seen anything besides the cars with dark tinted windows pass by and screaming crowds, he wouldn’t complain if he saw the idols, some of his favorite artists work for this company, but that’s just his wishful thinking.

“Sorry, I’ll be going.”

Even behind the mask, he can see as the man gives him a small, disappointed smile and turns to leave.

“Wait!”

The blonde practically shouts, the idol stops and looks expectantly at the other. Felix has no idea what he should do or say, but he can’t just let Hyunjin leave, this will probably be the only chance he’ll have in his entire life to talk with the other man.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to shout, I was just surprised.” He says sheepishly as he deposits the box on the counter, looking around for a moment to try to steady himself. “I… I don’t have much left, but you can choose anything you want.”

“I don’t want to impose, you’re already closed.”

“You’re not imposing. If you’re here, you must be hungry or craving something and you won’t find anything open at this hour.”

Felix gives the dark haired man what he hopes is an encouraging smile.

Hyunjin walks slowly to the counter, as if he thinks that Felix is a scared animal that will bolt at any movement, the blonde thinks that it’s more probable that he’ll faint or melt on the floor. The dark haired man gives him another small smile before looking down to the few pastries left, Felix’s brain short circuits for a moment as he studies the other man, a pleasant smell reaches him and he thinks that it must be his perfume, something light and sweet. He can’t see much of him, with the baggy clothes, the mask and cap. His fair skin looks perfectly smooth, the long, dark locks of his black hair seem soft and glossy in the fluorescent lights, his movements are graceful and the very way he stands shows that he’s not an average person.

“These are really cute.”

The idol exclaims as he studies the mushroom shaped cupcakes and the sunflower cookies, Hyunjin looks up and smiles at the blonde again, who feel his cheeks redden with the force of his blush.

“Thank you!” He beams at the dark haired man. “I wanted to keep the vibe of the cafe in the pastries, so most of them are animal or plant shaped.”

“Yeah, this place feels like stepping into a fairytale.” Hyunjin says as he looks around.

“That’s exactly what I wanted people to feel. I wanted to bring a little magic into their lives.”

“I can guarantee that you achieved that.”

The idol stares at him, eyes soft, making Felix fumble with the box in his hands and his blush come back with full force.

“Why don’t I give you what I have left?”

He asks, already lowering himself so he won’t have to look at the other.

“I can’t take all of them!”

Felix frowns.

“Are you worried about your diet? You can give some to your manager or your fellow coworkers, they’ll go to waste anyway.”

The blonde says as he keeps filling the box with all the pastries that are on display. He wishes he had some brownies left to give the idol, but those would have to wait a next time, if it would be a next time, probably not, this is like one chance in a million. He closes the box with a sticker in the form of a mushroom house with a blonde fairy waving from the window and hands it to Hyunjin with a smile.

“Here we go.”

The dark haired man takes the box carefully into his hands before he fishes his credit card out of his pocket.

“How much do I owe you?”

Felix shakes his head.

“It’s nothing, take it as my way of saying thank you for your hard work.”

“I can’t just take all of this for free.”

The smaller man purses his lips in thought for a moment.

“You can pay me by promising that you’ll stay health and take care of yourself.”

Hyunjin looks like he wants to argue again but one look at the blonde and he seems to know that he’s not going to win this argument, he bows to the baker.

“Thank you,” He straightens back, dark eyes going to the nametag pinned on Felix’s baby pink apron. “Felix.”

Hearing his name in the other’s voice, sends a shiver down his spine, but he covers it up by giving the other a sunny smile.

“You’re welcome, Hyunjin. Come back anytime, if the lights are on, I’ll be here.”

For a moment the dark haired man only blinks back at him and then he seems to shake himself out of whatever stupor he was in, he seems to hesitate for a moment, before his voice comes small and unsure.

“Can you please not tell anyone that I came here?”

Felix doesn’t even have to think, before he’s nodding. He’s knows how hard it is for idols to have any semblance of privacy, even if it’s something as simple as going to a coffee shop.

“Of course, I won’t say anything.”

The other seem to relax at his words, his eyes curve up slightly at the smile that’s hidden by his mask.

“Thank you. Have a good night, Felix.”

“Good night, Hyunjin.”

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

For the next three days, Felix wonders if he had hallucinated the encounter with Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin, his idol crush, the man of his dreams had come into his cafe and talked with him. That seems very unlikely, he isn’t living in a drama or a novel, things like that don’t happen in real life.

That’s what he’s thinking while he takes a cup of coffee from his last client and cleans the table, and then the bell by the door jingles. He looks up to tell however entered that he’s already closed but his words die on his throat when he sees who’s standing by the door.

“Hi.”

Hyunjin says, and if he wasn’t an idol that performs in front of thousands of people, Felix would say that he’s shy. It takes a second for the blonde to regain his functions and answer the other.

“Hello, Hyunjin!” The smile that spreads on his face is big and express the happiness he’s feeling to see the other again, to know that the man wasn’t a figment of his imagination. “Come in, come in. What can I give you today?”

He asks as he walks back to the counter.

“I won’t take anything for free today.”

Felix feels his lips pursing into a pout.

“Can I at least give you a drink?”

The other studies him for a moment before nodding and the blonde claps his hands happily.

“What do you want?”

“An iced americano, please.”

The smaller man turns around to start preparing the drink.

“You didn’t tell anyone about me.”

Hyunjin says cautiously.

“You asked me not to.”

“Usually that’s not enough for people.”

He can hear a little bit of bitterness on his words and he feels annoyance running through his body.

“I think people should learn to mind their own business.”

He says as he turns around and can see Hyunjin’s eyes crinkling behind his mask.

“Yeah, my life would be easier if everyone thought like that.”

The blonde lets out a huff, he thinks that it must be really tiring to live like that, always on the verge, always thinking about what you’re doing or saying. People following you and having opinions on everything you do. Felix is a fan too, he loves to follow what’s happening on his idol’s lives, but he would never invade their privacy like telling people that Hyunjin came here or taking photos of him without him knowing it, he deserves to have a private life.

Thinking about it, he looks at the glass windows at the front of the store before looking back at the dark haired man.

“Would you feel more comfortable if I lowered the blinds?”

Hyunjin looks from him to the windows and then back at the blonde.

“Could you do that?”

“Yes, of course.”

He skips around the counter and lower the blinds, turning it impossible for anyone on the street to see inside the cafe. When he turns around, his breath catches on his throat and he stops on his tracks. Hyunjin has taken his mask and cap off and for the first time Felix can see his face up close. He is easily the most beautiful person Felix has ever seen. His long, black hair is a little mussed because of the cap and the idol runs his fingers through it; there’s no other way to describe his face besides perfect, his straight nose and plush lips, the smooth, pale skin, the mole under his right eye. Felix wants to touch it, wants to press his fingers against his cheek and prove to himself that he’s real.

The beep from the coffee machine brings him out of his reverie, he ducks his head as he rushes behind the counter, praying that Hyunjin won’t notice the furious blush on his face. He seals the cup and hands it to the taller man before remembering something.

“Oh.” He exclaims and ducks behind the counter, he takes a closed box from under the counter and places the piece of cake in a plate and into the microwave. “I didn’t know if you would be back, but I’ve been saving a piece of brownie for you every day, they’re my specialty.”

He proudly places the plate with a generous piece of chocolate brownie on top of the counter and looks expectantly at the idol. Hyunjin looks at the brownie in surprise for a moment before his eyes soften and he smiles at the blonde.

“Will you sit with me?”

He gestures to one of the round tables in the cafe and Felix is nodding and moving to follow him before he even realizes it. They sit opposite each other, the smaller man expectantly watching as the other takes a bite out of his piece of brownie. Hyunjin’s eyes widen as he chews, looking at Felix with a surprised expression.

“What is it? Is it bad? No one complained. Oh my god, I’m sorry!”

He starts freaking out but Hyunjin waves at him and finally finishes chewing.

“This is amazing!”

The blonde sighs in relief against his chair, he runs his hands though his hair, taking it out of his small ponytail. Hyunjin is staring straight at him as he gulps.

“I think I’m in love.”

Felix giggles.

“I’m glad you liked it.”

The other man flushes and takes another bite.

“Yeah, the brownie.” He lets out a small laugh. “You can save a piece for me every day.”

“Will you come by every day?”

Felix can’t contain the hope in his voice, Hyunjin looks down at the table.

“I would love to, but I can’t, not with my schedule. I don’t come to the company every day and I travel a lot.”

“Oh.” Seeing as the other seems dejected, Felix gives him a smile. “There’s no problem, I’ll keep saving a piece for you every day, if you can’t come, I’ll eat it.”

Hyunjin laughs at his words and the sound warms the blonde’s heart. He never thought that he would have a chance like this, that he would sit on his own cafe with his idol crush eating his brownies and laughing together, it seems too much of a fairytale to be true.

“So, how was your day?”

And Felix launches himself into telling the other the happenings of his day.

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

It’s been a month since the first time Hyunjin showed up, and he’s been a fixture as much as a dream in Felix’s life, they talk for hours or minutes when he shows up, it depends on his schedule, but the baker is always grateful to have even a second of his time. They share about their days or talk about anything that comes to mind, it’s so easy to sit with the idol and forget that they come from completely different worlds.

Felix desperately needed someone to help him and after he told Hyunjin that he runs the cafe by himself, the other took matters into his own hands to find people to help him. Hiring Jeongin and Jisung is like a breath of fresh air.

Jisung is a little older than him, with curly brown hair, small lips and squishy cheeks. Felix wants to pinch him.

Jeongin is younger than them, with black hair, small eyes and an expression that always seems like he’s smiling at something, he looks like an adorable fox.

With their help, Felix can finally take a breath and he can leave them to look after the shop while he takes a nap in the afternoons since he still closes the shop and has to wake early to make the batters and put everything in the oven. The three of them hit it off instantly and Felix will never thank Hyunjin enough for them.

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

The day has been really busy and Jeongin stayed after hours to help him clean the shop, even Felix telling him that it’s alright, the boy still insisted on helping.

He’s in the kitchen kneading dough when Jeongin rushes in with an alarmed expression, the blonde immediately rushes in his direction.

“What happened?”

Jeongin gapes at him, looking back at the shop through the door, but they can’t see anything in the front from where they’re standing.

“Hwang Hyunjin.” The boy pants, taking in deep gulps of air. Felix has never seen his eyes as huge as they’re at that moment. “Hwang Hyunjin’s in the front, he asked for you.”

“Oh.”

Felix relaxes, a smile curling his lips at the mention of the idol. It’s been two months now that Hyunjin has visited the cafe, his schedule is erratic, sometimes he would stop by two days in a roll and other spend three or four without showing up. Today it’s been two days since they last saw each other.

“It’s ok, Jeongin.”

The younger gapes at him as he walks out of the kitchen to the front of the store. Hyunjin still has his mask and cap on.

“You know that you can close the blinds, right? You don’t need permission.”

“I didn’t want to assume.”

The idol says as he moves to close the blinds on the window beside the one Felix’s closing. As soon as they’re shut, he takes his mask and cap off, giving the blonde a warm smile.

“Hello, Felix.”

“Hello, Hyunjin.”

It’s been only two months since they’ve met, but Felix feels like the other is a part of his routine now, he misses him the days he can’t come and feels his heart flutter when he’s close. They stand there smiling at each other until someone clear their throat, they jump apart, looking at Jeongin, who’s standing by the kitchen door, watching them curiously.

“Let me introduce you two. Jeongin this is Hyunjin, Hyunjin this is Jeongin.” The blonde frowns as he looks at the taller man. “I thought you already knew each other.”

Hyunjin waves at the younger and shakes his head.

“No, who told me about him was Changbin, my bodyguard, said that they live in the same building and that he knew that Jeongin was looking for work and that he’s a good kid.”

“Say thank you to him for me, please. Jeongin and Jisung have been helping me a lot.”

“Yeah, you don’t seem so tired anymore. I’m glad.”

Hyunjin smiles at him and Felix can’t contain the blush that rushes to his cheeks. He needs to stop blushing in front of the other or Hyunjin will think that he’s a weirdo.

“I finished cleaning the front, do you need help with anything else?”

“No, thank you, Jeongin.”

“I’ll be going then. Good night Felix-hyung.” He bows to the blonde and then to the idol. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Hyunjin-hyung. Have a good night.”

“Good night, Jeongin.”

They both answer and watch as the boy walks out of the store. Felix motions to the kitchen.

“Come, I was preparing dough before you came.”

Felix takes Hyunjin’s piece of brownie from the container and pops it in the microwave, the idol is already familiar with the place and take a fork for himself as waits for his brownie to get warm before following the blonde.

It’s a little, or more like, a lot concerning how used to Hyunjin’s presence he’s becoming. Conversation between them flows easily and it’s easy to forget that he’s a worldwide known star, that his life is so different from Felix’s, but it’s easy to forget that every time Hyunjin walks inside the cafe and smiles at him, and then it’s just them and the world outside of these walls doesn’t matter. They laugh and talk and enjoy each other’s company. Felix ignores the way his heart flutters when the man’s dark gaze softens when he looks at him or how his smile makes him want to squirm in place and maybe, just maybe, press his lips against the idol’s plush ones.

He feels guilty after having these thoughts. Hyunjin comes here because he feels safe, because Felix respects his space and doesn’t treat him like an idol, but as a person, he doesn’t want the other to distance himself because he can’t control his feelings.

The dark haired man hums happily as he eats his piece of brownie, Felix always makes sure to leave a big piece for him, the expression of pure bliss on the other’s face brings a smile to his own. The idol leans against the counter, eating as he watches the blonde knead the dough of the cinnamon rolls he has to leave resting until morning.

Felix worked his hair in a small french braid this morning but along the day, a few strands had come loose and are now falling in front of his eyes, he blows them out of his face but they fall back in the same place, he can’t push them away with his hands full of dough.

“Here, let me help.”

Hyunjin walks closer and pushes the strands behind his ears gently, fingers lingering on the side of the blonde’s face. Felix blushes at the gesture and he can see as Hyunjin’s eyes follow the blush on his cheeks, fingers moving lightly along the freckles from the corner of his eyes to the bridge of his nose, he traces them as if in a trance.

It took a long time for Felix to learn to love his freckles, a lot of people always told him that they were imperfections and that he should cover them, but he learned to ignore it a long time ago, however, he feels a moment of insecurity as Hyunjin keeps caressing his cheeks. He knows that for idols, it wouldn’t be considered pretty or acceptable, if he were one, they would probably cover them, so he has no idea what the taller man is thinking right now, but Hyunjin doesn’t leave him wondering for long.

“They’re beautiful.”

He says in a soft voice and Felix wonders if he heard himself, if he has any idea that he’s making the blonde’s heart pound in his chest as if it’s going to jump into the other’s hands. He probably has no idea of the effect he has on Felix.

“Thank you.”

His voice is no more than a whisper but it’s enough to take the other out of his reverie. Hyunjin blinks a few times, looking between the blonde’s eyes and his hand that’s cupping his face before he takes a step back, his fair cheeks turning pink.

“I’m so sorry! That’s so inappropriate, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable and to touch you without your permission. I’m really sorry, Felix.”

Hyunjin says in a rush, the smaller man takes in a deep breath to try to regulate his heart rate and gives the other a smile.

“It’s ok, Hyunjin. You can touch me, it doesn’t make me uncomfortable.”

“No?”

His voice is small and unsure, and for a moment he remembers Felix of a lost child, the blonde’s smile turns warm.

“No, we are friends, right? We can be comfortable with each other.”

He finally returns his smile, shoulders relaxing.

“Yeah, we can.”

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

If five months ago you told Felix that he would be spending his Sunday sitting on the floor of his cafe as he watches Hyunjin paint the walls, he would say that you were joking or delirious. Now he watches as the dark haired man slowly brings to life a scenario of an enchanted forest on the wall, Felix should be working on new items for the menu, but he can’t take his eyes away from the other man.

Hyunjin hums lowly as he paints, completely concentrated on his work, his voice is soft and calm, Felix would probably fall asleep just listening to him humming.

“What are you thinking about?”

His eyes find the taller man’s dark ones, he tries to remember what he was thinking about before he started dreaming awake about the other man.

“Doughnuts.”

Hyunjin smiles before turning back to the wall.

“Doughnuts?”

“Yeah, I don’t have none on the menu and I was thinking about making animal themed doughnuts.”

“What kind of animals?”

“Mythical ones, like unicorns, dragons, kitsune, bul-gae. Maybe some that are not mythical but that are cute? Like bunnies, deer, bears, dogs, cats. The mythical could have unusual fillings, while the others can have the traditional ones. What do you think?”

Hyunjin finishes painting a white unicorn before smiling at him over his shoulder.

“I think they will be adorable.”

After he finishes painting the walls, Felix looks around in wonder. This is exactly what he had imagined. A mushroom house with a fairy – that looked suspiciously like him – waving from the window, just like the sticker, unicorns running, a dreamy forest. He wanted to step inside the painting and live there.

He turns to Hyunjin beaming and gives him a tight hug.

“Thank you so much. I love it!”

After they established that they are comfortable touching each other, it opened a whole new world for them. Now Hyunjin will give him a hug when he arrives, be it reciprocated or just him plastering himself against Felix when the other has his hands occupied, when he leaves, he’ll usually drop a kiss on his forehead, making the blonde feel all mushy and gooey inside.

Now his strong arms circle the smaller’s waist and pull him close, face buried into his neck. Felix feels himself relax, he thinks that he could live inside Hyunjin’s arms for the rest of his life, this right here, is where he feels the safest, he’s complete and happy. He hopes that the other feel at least a little bit like him, that he can give him the same comfort he gives the blonde.

They’re interrupted when Hyunjin’s phone start ringing, they pull apart reluctantly before the dark haired man looks to see who’s calling.

“It’s Chan.”

Chan is Hyunjin’s manager, Felix met him briefly from a few times he came to the cafe to collect Hyunjin along with Changbin. He likes them both very much, they were very polite and amicable, but most of that, he’s grateful that they take such good care of Hyunjin.

“Tell him that I said hi.”

The taller man nods and Felix walks away to pack a box for him, he knows that when Chan calls it means that Hyunjin will have to leave. So, he places some strawberry scones, a few sandwiches and cookies inside the box, that way, the idol can share with the other two men.

“I have to go.”

Felix turns to the kitchen door, where the other man is standing, he walks slowly in his direction, placing the box carefully on top of one of the counters before he circles his arms around Hyunjin’s neck and plasters himself against him, he takes a deep breath of his sweet smell.

“Take care of yourself and come back soon.”

The dark haired man squeezes his arms around his waist, lifting him from the ground for a moment and making a giggle scape his lips before he presses a tender kiss against the blonde’s forehead.

“Take care you too.”

He distances himself enough so he can study Felix’s face for a moment before he sighs and takes a step back. The blonde hands him the box.

“For you and the boys.”

By now, Hyunjin knows better than to try and argue about how much food Felix gives him every time, so he just accepts it and smiles.

“Thank you. Goodbye, Felix.”

“Goodbye, Hyunjin”

He tries to ignore the pain in his heart as he watches the other walk away.

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

Felix feels like he’s dying, his entire body hurts and he didn’t have energy to even open his eyes this morning, he doesn’t know how he found strength to call Han and ask him if he could come early to start the baking, he tried to get up and help the other, but two steps out of bed and he fell to the ground, having to crawl back to the mattress. Jisung had taken one look at him and left, coming back with a bottle of water, medicine and a wet cloth that he put on the blonde’s forehead, only then he noticed that he was burning up.

Felix takes the medicine and drinks as much of the water as his upset stomach accepts before collapsing back against his pillows. He blinks in and out of consciousness until he feels gentle fingers running through his hair, he forces his eyes open and thinks that maybe his fever is worse than he thought because Hyunjin is sitting on the edge of his bed, looking down at him with a concerned expression.

“What?”

He tries to ask, but his voice comes out raspy and he coughs, the other man is fast to press a straw against his lips and Felix gulps down the cold water gratefully.

What is Hyunjin doing here? It’s still bright outside, he never comes at daytime, it’s too dangerous. He feels lips press against his forehead and a moment later there’s a cool cloth pressed there, making him sigh in contentment.

“I told you to take care of yourself.”

Felix whines and pouts, hiding his face on his pillow. He doesn’t want to be scolded right now, he didn’t do anything wrong, maybe he skipped a few meals and isn’t sleeping as much as he should, but no one needs to know that. Hyunjin presses his fingers gently against his temple and start massaging it, making the blonde sigh and lean into the touch.

“Why… you… here?”

He mumbles, eyes still closed, the idol runs the fingers of his free hand gently through the blonde’s locks.

“Jisung told Minho that you were sick and he told me.”

Minho as in Lee Minho? Another idol from Hyunjin’s company? How does Jisung have his number? He tries to ask, but his thoughts get all tangled when Hyunjin massages his nape, turning him into jelly.

“You look like a cat. An adorable, small cat.”

He can hear the smile on the other’s voice but has no energy to defend himself, so he just burrows further into his pillow until his forehead is pressing against Hyunjin’s thigh. The fingers on his hair falter for a moment before they resume the caress.

He must doze off, because when he comes to again Hyunjin is calling his name and shaking him gently.

“Lixi-ah, you need to eat something.”

“Noooo.”

He whines and tries to move away, but the hand on his shoulder stops him.

“I’ll help you. Eat something. For me? Please?”

The concern in his voice stops him and Felix blinks owlishly at the dark haired man that’s sitting on the bed beside him, with his help he sits leaning against the headboard. Hyunjin holds a bowl of chicken broth in his hands and he blows on it before taking some into a spoon and bringing it to the blonde’s mouth. For a moment, Felix thinks about refusing it and eating by himself, but he has no strength in his arms to even lift the spoon, he’ll probably spill everything on the bed and himself, so he opens his mouth and accepts the food.

He was afraid that it would upset his stomach, but the flavor is mild and pleasant. He hums in contentment before accepting another spoonful.

“Why are you here?”

He asks again, because he’s sure that Hyunjin had a schedule for the day and taking care of Felix wasn’t on it.

“I was worried about you. After Minho told me that you were sick, I called you but you didn’t answer. I couldn’t concentrate in practice, so Chan told me to come see you.”

The smaller man furrows his eyebrows trying to look sternly at the other and fails spectacularly.

“You shouldn’t have done it, I would have been alright.”

He accepts another spoonful.

“You’re my friend, Felix. I want to help.”

The blonde sighs and stares into the other’s dark gaze.

“I know, but I don’t want you to get in trouble because of me.”

A fond smile curves his plump lips.

“I’ll not get in trouble, I needed a break anyway, so I’ll take the day to rest.”

“You won’t be able to do that if you’re taking care of me.”

“I’m an idol, taking care of you is the least tiring activity in my schedule.”

He leans forward and press his lips against Felix’s forehead when he finishes the broth.

“You fever has broken. I think you just need to rest and stay hydrated.”

Hyunjin hands him the bottle of water and a pill, Felix takes both without complain and shimmies down to lay back on the bed, but the other pulls him until his head is resting on a pillow on his lap, his fingers start to card through the blonde tresses gently and he hums lowly.

In less than a minute, Felix is out like a light.

Felix knew that this would happen sooner or later, but it doesn’t stop him from pouting and sulking around the cafe. Hyunjin’s gone, he’ll be out of the country for a week to attend the Milan Fashion Week. Sure, he promised that they would talk every day, but Felix knows that the idol will have a tight schedule and he doesn’t want to disturb his job, he’s excited to see him attending the show, he has been following it since Hyunjin became Versace’s ambassador a few years ago, he always looks amazing at the events, but he still prefers him barefaced, in baggy clothes and leaning against the counter of his kitchen while he kneads dough, that’s a side of him that Felix thinks that’s reserved only for him.

There’s a chime from his apron and he fishes his phone out, ignoring the knowing looks he receives from Jisung and Jeongin.

From Hyunjin-ah: Just arrived. Wish you were here, you would love Milan

He smiles stupidly at the screen.

To Hyunjin-ah: Don’t forget to send me a lot of photos 🥰

He sighs. It’s going to be a long week.

Hyunjin calls him on the second day. It’s a video call, he looks tired but the smile on his face is the same. He tells Felix about the photoshoot he did that day and how was his visit at the Versace store, the blonde shows him the new doughnuts that he’s been working on and Hyunjin coos at the cute pastries. The idol ends up falling asleep on the phone with him and he can’t stop himself from printing the screen, he looks so soft and in peace when he’s sleeping, Felix just wants to keep this memory of him.

On the third day, Hyunjin goes live, he told Felix that he would do it but his phone still chimes with the notification. He looks like he usually does when he comes in late at night, bare faced and in comfy clothes, the difference is that his hair is in disarray and he’s wearing glasses. Before he can think better of it, Felix writes on the chat.

Yong.lixx: You look cute with glasses 🥰

Hyunjin knows his user name and he sees the moment he reads his comment, a fond smile spreading on his lips. He starts to talk about the last few days, most things that he already told the blonde, but he still keeps watching, wishing that the other was here so he could listen to his laugh without the static. As the dark haired man puts on some music, Felix takes the chance to ask what he didn’t have time before the live.

Yong.lixx: Have you eaten? Are you taking care of yourself?

Those were his main concerns, he couldn’t give the other food from here, but he could call Chan and tell him that Hyunjin wasn’t taking care of himself, he isn’t above that if it means that the idol will stay health. He smiles again while he reads his questions out loud before he narrows his eyes at the camera.

“I’ve been taking care of myself, have you?”

Felix can’t help his laugh as dozens of messages saying YES pop in the chat, but he doesn’t respond, Hyunjin answered his question already and if he keeps doing it people will notice, he knows how perceptive fans are, he doesn’t want to put the other in trouble.

The next question Hyunjin reads out loud catches the blonde’s attention.

“Hyunjin marry me?” The man frowns at his phone and then at the camera, his plump lips pursed in what Felix knows is annoyance. “I can’t marry you, I already have…”

He cuts himself abruptly, looking at something or someone outside the camera before turning back.

“Anyway, today I ate a croissant sandwich and it was amazing! It had ham, cheese, some kind of sweet sauce and lettuce. I wonder if I’ll find something like it back in Korea.”

He looks pointedly at the camera and Felix knows he’s talking with him. It’s time to start experimenting with some sandwiches.

“Will you guys watch the show tomorrow? I have a surprise for you, please don’t miss it.”

He winks at the camera before saying good night. Surprise? He didn’t tell Felix anything about it.

Felix squeals at Hyunjin’s ‘surprise’ as the idol appears on the runaway opening the Versace show. He looks amazing wearing a satin baby blue shirt and white pants, his hair mussed, looking like he just rolled out of bed, he looks so soft that Felix wants to pinch him. And then he comes back to close the show wearing a velvety black suit that moves like water with him, hair slicked back with a few strands left loose in front of his face, his eyes look even more alluring with the winged eyeliner they put on him.

Felix thinks he’s going to die. It’s hard to believe that the ethereal creature on his screen is the same man that painted his cafe’s walls and that took care of him when he was sick. Hyunjin is so beautiful it’s physically painful to look at him.

The photos of Hyunjin in the runaway go viral, people who aren’t familiar with k-pop asking who he is and the fans going crazy with every new footage that comes out of him in the runaway and the after party. They’re talking about how beautiful and sexy Hyunjin is, and Felix still thinks that too, but now what he wishes to see the most it’s the other’s genuine smile.

It suddenly downs on him that what he feels for the other is no longer the admiration that a fan feels for their idol, but love, pure and genuine love. He wants Hyunjin close because his presence makes him happy and warm, he wants to see him laugh because his happiness is what means the most, he wants to see him healthy because nothing matters more than him.

He thinks that maybe he should be surprised, but he has been halfway in love with Hyunjin for years and meeting him only materialized the feelings he already had. Falling in love with him has been as natural as breathing, the natural course of his life, there was no other path for him besides giving his whole heart to the other.
