Chapter 1: Hamiltons guide to getting dumped

Chapter Text

“What the fuck do you mean ‘I don’t try’!”  Alex cried out, standing up from his previous space on the bed. “I have put everything into this relationship and I get nothing in return, what do you want from me?”

“I want you to take a break,
it’s always about you and that stupid fucking legacy of yours!” John hisses out, angrily rubbing his temples. “You know what Hamilton, I’m done.” He storms towards the front door and barks out “I fucking hate you.” The door being slammed shortly after.

The butterflies in his stomach turned into skull moths and he wanted nothing more then to throw them up. The quiet pat pat pat of raindrops on his window soon turned into violent thuds trying to climb through and drown him. He silently hoped they would. The longing ache in his heart did not die down in the 30 minutes he spent staring at the doorframe where John had been stood just moments earlier.

Angrily wiping his eyes, he trudged his way over to his bed and allowing the duvet covers to embrace him. The space next to him once feeling so light and fulfilling, now just being the shadow of what once was.

The morning was no different, he woke up, dark circles under his eyes where they had been brewing for the past few months, he got himself dressed and shoved his hair in a ponytail. The events of the night prior suddenly crashing down and landing on top of him, suffocating him ever so slowly. He pushed those wallowing thoughts to the back of his head and stepped out of his apartment, sighing as he heard the click! of the front door.

The same plain hallways, the same dull light bulbs, the same quiet murmurs of his co-workers chatting in the breakroom. why is everything so fucking grey? He pours himself the usual cup of coffee (3 shots of expresso, 2 spoons of sugar with a splash of milk) trying to ignore the gnawing thoughts at the back of his mind, and makes his way to his office, not taking a second glance at the whispers behind him.

4 hours pass, the only sounds being the mindless typing on his keyboard, Charles Lee comes in, hands him some papers from Jefferson and gives him a look of pity and leaves. Maybe he looks worse than he thought. Not even 10 minutes later Laffeyete enters, worry painted all over his face.

mon ami, what on earth happened to you?” He says walking round Hamiltons desk to place his hands over the clearly distressed males shoulders.

“Nothing Laf, I’m fine, just John being John.”

“Do not lie to me now, Que s’est-il vraiment passé?” He sighs slowly rubbing the other man’s shoulders and collarbones.

“John, he um-“ tripping over his words slightly “he broke up with me.” That was it, the dam broke, the walls he had spent hours putting around himself had came crashing down in a matter of seconds. The bitter reality gripped his brain like a lamb in the slaughter.

No more words were said between the two, just body wracking sobs and Laffeyete holding his dejected friend in a soft embrace.

The cries quieted down and Alex was placed back in his office chair, suddenly missing the warm body that was wrapped around him. Laf ushered a quick “one moment, mon ami.” And was quickly out the door again.

He was fuming. He was going to fucking kill Laurens. He stormed his way to the break room and boomed his way into the break room ignoring the alarmed face Jefferson pulled. He approached John grabbed his coffee cup out of his hand and slammed it on the counter. To say John was shocked would be an understatement.

”What the fuck do you think you’re playing at Laurens, you know I have just had Alexander fucking Hamilton crying in my arms because of what YOU have done to him!” He spat in Laurens face prodding a finger into his chest.

”I-“

”No! I don’t want to hear whatever shit you have to say. If you ever and I mean ever leave him in bits like that again I will fucking kill you Laurens. Take my word for it.” He yells not missing a beat. Not waiting for a response he left.

Thomas was in utter disbelief. What the hell? Had Laurens and Hamilton broken up? They were the token couple that allowed everybody to believe real love did exist. What had Laurens done to hurt Hamilton that bad? Thomas didn’t like Hamilton he would even rule it has hatred. He hated the way Hamilton always thought he was right, he hated the way he was so far up Washington’s backside, and most of all he hated the way he had the perfect relationship that Thomas could never have. But, he wasn’t a monster, he felt bad for Hamilton, Laurens had clearly fucked up and his rival was hurting. He couldn’t wait to tell James.

Hamilton sniffled as Charles Lee, once again, walked into his office. This time uttering a quick “Washington wants to see you.” Before swiftly closing the door. He sighed and began to make his way to the familiar office before knocking on the door waiting for permission to enter.

”come in.”

”good morning sir, is everything okay?” He asked, a confused look on his face.

”actually, I feel I should be asking you son. You have been very dissociated all day, gossip spreads very quickly in these halls, you know?” Of course Hamilton knew that people talk, but not once did it cross his mind that the whispers of his co-workers would reach the boss so soon.

“I’m fine, sire. Just didn’t sleep very well thas’ all.” Putting on his best face of determination.

“Why don’t you go home and some rest, looks like it could do you some good.” He gave the younger man a soft smile of comfort.

“But sir, I have so much work I need to finish, I need to continue writing up my new bill-“

“Go home Alexander, get some rest and come back tommorow. I’m sure your papers are not going to run away.” Making it very clear his mind was not going to change.

Alex made a disgruntled noise and left Washington’s office, quickly going back to his own, retrieving his belongings and getting the hell out of there.

The warm shower patted his back in a nice, soothing way. Instantly calming the tense muscles in his back. He grabbed some vanilla scented shampoo and rubbed his hair clean. Not realising how rough he actually felt.

He dried off, got into bed, ordered himself some pizza and prepared himself for a night of drowning in his sorrows as if he was surrounded by quicksand and there was no way to get back to normal land.
