Work Text:
After a while your body was feeling the burn, obviously now aching after taking several hits during the battle earlier with the Wanderers. Pretty sure that several wounds and bruises are now decorating your body.
Here you are, now at Akso hospital along with several of your colleagues and two civilians. They have sustained a much more severe injury than you, as they were initially the first at the scene before you came in as backup.
"Are you sure you don't need any treatment? Dr. Zayne is still in the operating room, but he'll be finished in a few." Yvonne asked.
You shook your head in response, the last thing you want is troubling Zayne to treat your injuries after a tiring operation which lasted for hours. "No need, I can manage and I didn't get hurt much. My colleagues and the victims are the ones who need immediate attention."
Sure you know that you have several injuries at the moment. But you have memorized the things you needed to do when it came to this, since after all you have paid close attention to how Zayne had treated your injuries and his constant reminders during your several previous trips to the hospital. You're confident that you can treat them yourself now.
The nurse gives you a skeptical look, before nodding in response.
"If my colleagues need any assistance, just call or send a message directly to our Alpha unit. Anyway I got to go." You said before turning on your heels and walked out into the almost empty hallway of the hospital. You paused for a bit, a small hiss escaped your lips as you winced at a sharp pain that shot up on your right arm.
Your right arm was now throbbing in pain, it must have been the arm you have used earlier to block an attack. Shaking your head, you gently rub your arm before continuing down the hallway. What's more important is to just get home as soon as possible to have it treated.
You hear your name mentioned, a familiar deep voice coming from behind you. Turning around, Zayne stands in front of you, his attention on his clipboard.
"Dr. Zayne!" You exclaimed, a grin spread across your face. Even though you plan not to see him today, you felt a sudden rush of joy fill you after seeing him. "Just brought some of my colleagues and two civilians who got hurt. They needed immediate attention to their injuries." You rambled on.
Zayne raises his head, taking a good look at your body before meeting your gaze, he gives a small nod. "And are you not injured as well?"
Like him, you also observed him. It’s obvious that he just came from the operating room. Noticing that instead of the formal clothes he usually wears underneath his white coat, he was still wearing a light blue scrub. His hair a bit disheveled from wearing a surgical cap earlier.
Not wanting him to worry and trouble him, you steel yourself to not wince in pain in front of him. A smile formed on your face and hoped that it didn’t appear stiff to him. In response you shook your head and gave him a firm "No.”
“No…?” Zayne repeats your answer, but it sounds like he was questioning you.
You nod in response. “Anyway I gotta go now, it’s a bit late... so I'll see you around? Maybe this weekend?" You said, as you backed away and gave him a small wave. Despite wanting to stay and have a casual chat with your childhood friend, the ache on your body was getting more painful as time passed by. So you decided to cut this conversation short and get out before he starts to notice or question you.
"And also... Please get some rest. You look tired." You added, before turning around to quickly leave.
Before you could even start walking, you yelped as you felt Zayne's hand lightly wrapped around your right arm. Despite the gentle touch, pain shot throughout your arm once again. Your body stiffened for a few seconds, before bowing your head down as sudden tears welled up in your eyes, while your right leg now stomped hard on the floor to divert and relieve the pain that shot up.
"It seems like my patient didn't disclose several of her injuries to my staff, and also to me." Zayne stated, one of his eyebrows was raised as he leaned closer to you. "I didn't even apply any pressure to your arm."
Your head shot up, teary eyes glaring at him. A look of concern was initially on his face, but you weren’t sure if you saw an upset look flashed upon his face before returning back to his usual stoic look. He slightly let go of your arm, but his hand ghosted down before once again wrapping them firmly at your wrist. "Come with me."
Before you could even react, he turns around and pulled you along until you were inside his office.
Since both of you are now inside the confines of his office, you dropped the honorifics with him. "Zaaayne- really! It’s not that bad, I can handle this! I know what to do when I have these kinds of injuries and-" Before you could continue your whines and protest, you immediately shut up as Zayne gives you a cold firm stare before grabbing a medical kit from one of the cabinets.
Only one person could actually do this to you, Zayne, yes he could actually shut you up for good without saying anything. Just being on the receiving end of his pointed look, meant that he isn't up for discussions and is firm with his decision.
He pointed his head in the direction of the chair in front of him, "Sit down here please."
And like an obedient puppy, you slowly walked over and sat down on the seat in front of him. You weren't sure, but you thought you saw the corner of his lips raised up a bit before turning back to his usual expression.
"Raise up your sleeves too please."
Nodding, you slowly raise up your left sleeve... "Your other sleeve first."
Pausing, you turn your gaze towards the man and Zayne returns back with another pointed look, and immediately you do what he instructed. A groan escapes your lips as you slowly raise your right sleeve up. The man's brows furrow seeing a big dark bruise and several scratches on your right arm, without further ado he starts to disinfect them and create an ice pack around your bruise using his Evol and gives you a questioning look at you.
A sheepish smile spread upon your face. “I… must have used my arm to block an attack earlier.”
The man gave a heavy sigh.
“What else hurts?” Zayne asked firmly, he then moves onto your left arm and pulls up your sleeve, now focusing his attention to disinfecting a small wound near your wrist. “Don't say there's no more.”
“I- my lower back is also in pain. But that's all Zayne, just the arms and that.”
He nods, now wrapping a gauze bandage around the wound. Before examining the rest of your arm.
You could tell he was exhausted, and yet he carries on with treating your injuries. A frown now forming on his face as he found another wound.
Without hesitation your right hand gently cupped his chin, you could feel the man stiffened a bit. Pausing his treatment on your wound, you decided to tilt his head up until both your eyes meet.
“I'm really fine Dr. Zayne, I may have several injuries and some body pain at the moment, but really I can handle it…” You reassure him “Also you look tired, you should be resting instead.”
A small gentle smile forms on his face, sighing as he puts down the surgical tray. He placed his hand over yours, his thumb caressing the top of your hand.
“I know you can, but let me take care of you.” He gently responded, his intense gaze fall on you. Yet you felt your face heat up and decide to avert your gaze elsewhere, as he leaned closer trying to maintain eye contact with you.
Your heart felt like it started racing, the man was very smooth with words and actions. But these kinds of acts coming from him, the small smile he tries his best to hide, the way he would give in and spoil you sometimes… they always made you feel like he views you more than just a childhood friend, and it made you fall for him. It made you wish that your current relationship with Zayne would bloom into something more special.
“Am I talking to Dr. Zayne? Or Zayne?” You joked, a shy smile spreading on his face as he returns his attention back to the wound on your left arm.
“The doctor had already clocked out of work the moment he saw you in the hallway.”
A smile came on your face, “So… if he has already clocked out from work, would Zayne be willing to accompany me for dinner? My treat, since he has taken good care of me.”
He paused once again, looking once again at you with a gentle smile. “Dinner would be lovely.”
