Work Text:
Babe saw Charlie trying to prepare breakfast for them. He tried was a very important element. With one disabled arm, what Charlie was doing was a big mess. Even from a distance, he was able to notice the rice spilled on the counter. He suspected, probably rightly, that there was even more of it on the floor.
Charlie didn't ask for help.
It hurt and irritated him even more than the suspicions about his betrayal. He was within reach, he could have helped him with it, but he didn't. Charlie never asked him for help. He always wanted to do everything himself, even more than he needed.
Did he think the request for the car was so big that he should repay him every day? Babe was angry. He quickly descended the stairs. He grabbed the frying pan from Charlie's hand. He dragged him into the living room, forcing him to sit on the couch and giving him a look that he knew would keep Charlie silent for at least a few minutes while he returned to the kitchen to finish his meal.
He looked around. Of course, the kitchen was a big mess. After a while, he came to the conclusion that he would simply make an omelette from the eggs that Charlie had already beaten. He checked the condition of the rice. It was already perfectly cooked. It took him less than five minutes to finish his breakfast.
He placed everything on two plates. He grabbed the cutlery and napkins and joined Charlie on the couch. The other Alpha gave him such a happy smile when he saw Babe with the food that his heart definitely skipped a beat for a moment. He snorted, forcing himself to remain impassive. He was supposed to be angry with him. He should be mad at him.
He set the plates down on the table.
- Eat.
He just said to himself, quickly starting to eat the rice and egg. Charlie thanked him for the meal, as if he hadn't prepared most of it.
Babe tried not to look in his direction for a moment. However, his attention was drawn back to it when he heard the sound of cutlery hitting the table. Charlie shuddered. Babe noticed that his hand was shaking, which he injured while protecting him from the people attacking him.
Charlie's face was twisted in pain. When he realized that Babe was looking at him, he quickly stretched his lips into a smile. Babe was impressed with how natural and sincere he looked. If he hadn't seen the undisguised expression of pain a few seconds earlier, he might have believed that Charlie was actually fine.
He put his plate on the table. Charlie took the plate, turning to face him. He scooped some rice and egg onto his spoon. He extended his arm towards Charlie. The puppy's eyes widened incredibly. Babe was able to see the reflection of himself in his eyes. He saw his closed expression, could almost see the lightning bolts crackling from his eyes.
Charlie obediently opened his mouth. Before he could swallow the portion, he already started apologizing for the problem and thanking Babe for helping him. Alpha put the food back on the spoon without even stopping to feed Charlie.
- Just eat, don't whine.
He said between helpings of food. Charlie smiled at him every second his mouth wasn't busy taking food. For a moment, Babe wondered if he looked like a baby bird. Ultimately, however, he came to the conclusion that it was not. Charlie will always be a puppy.
And Babe?
Babe is a good mama, so he will feed his puppy until he can take care of himself.
