Chapter Text
I opened my eyes to find myself in a forest. Cold wind blew by but didn't send chills through me like usual. That's odd. I thought to myself as I got up off the ground and started walking.
The forest had an eerie feel to it but in some ways it felt familiar, like a place I have memories in, but I just can't seem to remember them. I kept on walking until I heard a twig snap somewhere behind me. I turned around quickly but was met with nothing, no one was there, no animal, no nothing. I turned back around and continued walking towards nothing in particular.
I don't really know why I started walking, or specifically in that direction, but I think I felt a push once I'd gotten up from the ground. I don't really remember though, my brain feels really foggy. I walked, and walked, and walked, the only noticeable difference to my surroundings was that the trees were closer together now. I glanced at one of them for a second and went back to walking before realizing that something was carved into it and turning back around.
Carved deep into the tree bark were the initials ‘S’ and ‘C’ with a heart dug in around them. I stared intensely at the carving, I recognized it, I don't know how, but I recognized it.
I was pulled away from the tree forcefully, turned around and shoved forwards. I tripped on a tree root but thankfully caught myself on the bark with my finger nails. I went to confront the person, but just found myself staring at the air again. I felt frustrated but started walking again.
I felt my ears twitch slightly as the noise of a woman sobbing filled them. I picked up speed towards the noise and was met with another sound, the sound of someone getting sick. As I got closer I felt my mind get less and less foggy, until I was there at a clearing in the trees.
I was about to try and comfort the woman sobbing, until I saw the body in her arms… my body. I walked around her and dropped down to the ground in front of my lifeless body. My blond hair had dirt in, my blue eyes were stuck looking up at the sky, the fair skin of my face had blood splattered on it and- oh my god. My stomach had been torn open by something with big claws. You could very clearly see my organs, which explains the man leaning against a nearby tree currently vomiting.
I can't believe it though, no matter how hard I try, I still can't believe it. I'm dead. That's my corpse, and I am dead. As the realization starts to hit me a dam breaks in my brain and my mind is flooded with a life's worth of memories. As the images flash by I feel my face begin to wet as I too start to cry.
My name was Corvus Jackson, everyone I knew called me Crow. I was twenty-three years old and I was attacked by a big cat while exploring the forest with my friends. The man throwing up was my best friend, and the woman was the one I said my last words to before I left. You may be wondering what I said, well, it was ‘I love you’.
