Chapter Text

Oscar didn't want to be a little. Didn't want the possibility of dropping in the middle of the paddock. Especially not when he didn't have a caregiver to come to his rescue.
Yet here he was, disoriented, sitting in between the motor homes that were soon to be taken down and moved onto the next location. If he could just get to McLaren he'd be OK. Someone would get him back to the hotel safely. He just had to get there without bumping into anyone.
He took a deep breath trying to pull big Oscar up, but alas the more he tried the more he panicked making his mind remain fuzzy.
Oh well now or never. He was a big boy. He could do it.

Wiping the tears that were running down his face he stepped on unsteady legs to make his way to the waiting safety of his team.
Slowly he began to walk in what his fuzzy mind thought was the correct direction of the motor home. Each step he took was unsure in his disoriented little mind until eventually he ran straight into the back of a man dressed in green. The collision caused him to fall backwards landing straight on his bum.
In shock he looked up into the eyes of the man he had bumped into, into the eyes of Fernando who was looking down at him, his face filled with annoyance and then concern when he saw Oscar on the floor bewildered and eyes unfocused.
"Fewnandwo, I'm scwared" Oscars lip started quivering profusely.
"Hey, little man, look at me. Where's your mummy or daddy, hm?" Fernando asked bewildered that the man who used to be one of his teammates was a little.
Oscar mumbled his reply, tears coming back full force no he was looking at Someone familiar so close to safety.
"Hey buddy I need you to breathe and say that again for me."
Oscar dug his foot into the ground, "don't gots a daddy or mummy. Just Oscie and Koko."
"Who is koko cariño?"
"My koawa. He my best fwiend"
"I'm sure he's missing you, where is he now buddy let's go find him eh?"
"Cawen," Oscar replied, pointing at the orange building in the distance.
" Ok then, let's get you back to Koko"
This definitely wasn't how Fernando had planned on spending his time after a less than ideal race. But looking at the little clad in orange before him he just couldn't walk away from him.
"Can you hold my hand?" Fernando asked, holding out his hand. Unfortunately for him it seemed to be at that moment that little Oscie seemed to slip further into his headspace. "Guess I'm lifting you then, I'm getting too old for this" he mumbled to himself while reaching to pick Oscar up.
Once Oscar was safely in his arms, he made his way as quickly as he could to the orange motorhome in front of him.
As he approached the orange building he could slowly feel all eyes turning to look at him as he carried the still crying McLaren driver back to his team.
Entering the building he was greeted by the sight of Daniel sprawled on a sofa cradling a sleepy Lando in his lap who was rhythmically sucking on an almost empty bottle.
Daniel looked up and saw the panicked look on the Spaniard's face and the back of a now heaving Oscar with no more air left in him for his sobs.
"What happened to him?" Daniel asked as loud as he dared to with Lando so close to sleep on his chest.
"I don't know, he ran into me he was already little and looked scared as hell"
"Where's his caregiver then? 'Cause I'll be having serious fucking words with them" Daniel asked eyes darkening with anger at who ever had left the little to get into this state.
"He said he didn't have one" Fernando answered, rubbing his hand soothingly up and down Oscars back.
"Fuck" Daniel whispered softly under his breath.
