Work Text:

"We need to talk, call me when you can"

It all started with that message from Hailey, which he received when he was out of the wire on a mission and didn't see a day and a half later when he came back to base. As soon as he opened the message he called her worried.
"Hailey? Hails, you okay? Is everything okay?" He asked with an obviously pretty worried tone in his voice.
"Jay..." She sighed relieved when she heard his voice. "Can you talk now? It's kinda important..." She said doubting about telling him as the seconds passed.
"Yeah I can talk now, I just got back to base. Won't be out until at least tomorrow. So what's up?" He asked worried but trying to somehow bring her to talk to him.
"I uh.. I resigned from intelligence.." She let it out along with a deep sigh of relief. Jay froze. He thought he heard wrong.
"What? Why? What happened Hails?" He asked million things crossing his mind to what had taken Hailey to make that decision. Hailey sighed. "I had to. Nothing's been the same without you. I can't keep working here, not without you, not with Voight..."
Jay closed his eyes finally realizing they were closer to being free. Free from everything their sargent put them through in their time in the unit and even in the time when he already resigned.
"I'm leaving first thing tomorrow. I'm coming home to you Hails. I'm coming home and not leaving you ever again. I promise you we're gonna be just fine"
Hailey smiled when she heard him say that. She broke down from happiness. She was finally gonna see him. After 10 months apart. After everything they went through. They were gonna be okay.
"I'm coming home to you baby. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? I love you Hails" He said calmly already starting packing his things. "I love you too Jay" She said showing obvious happiness in her voice.

13 hours later there he was in El Alto International Airport of La Paz, Bolivia, waiting to board his flight home. His flight back to Chicago. Back to his wife.
His backpack hanging from one shoulder, as one hand grips one of the handles hard and the other holds his passport and boarding pass.
"Passengers on flight 756 bound for O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, United States, begin boarding the flight at gate number 4" Jay heard the PA while tapping his foot against the floor impatiently.
He wanted to get home. He wanted to get to his wife as soon as possible and the wait was becoming eternal.
After half an hour waiting in line to board the flight, Jay had his passport and flight ticket checked and finally got to his seat on the aircraft.
He got lucky because he got a window seat, and Jay knew he wouldn't be able to sleep on the flight. He was too nervous and excited at the same time. He wanted to get home as soon as possible. He couldn't wait any longer.
He placed his backpack in the compartments above his head and sat down waiting for the plane to start moving.
As soon as one of the air hostesses announced the takeoff, he sent a message to Hailey.
"Taking off now. Be home in a couple of hours. Can't wait to see you. I love you"
He then put his phone in his pocket and simply took in the sights throughout the flight, only being able to think of one thing. His wife.

After almost 9 hours the plane landed safely at O'Hare International Airport. Jay smiled at the sight of his hometown. When the plane finally stopped and people started getting out, Jay grabbed his backpack and headed out himself too. He wandered through the airport to the exit when he spotted his car on the parking lot outside. Alongside his truck, there was a familiar figure leaning against it, arms crossed and her look searching for Jay himself, in all the hustle and bustle of the airport. He quickened his pace, smile bigger than he had in the last 10 months. Once he arrived to his truck the blonde woman launched into his arms tightening her arms around his neck and clinging to him as her life depended on it. Jay let his backpack fall to the ground and tightened his arms around her body. He kissed her lips and after a minute of taking in each other's essences they both broke the kiss at the same time.
"Hailey" Jay breathed seeing as tears fell down her cheeks. He cupped her face with his hands and kissed her softly again.
"Hey..."
