Genesis of the Elves

Summary:

From a world where only humans existed, this is how the elves and dragons came into existence.

Chapter Text

Hundreds of Millennia Ago, Antarctica

In this time, only humans existed and the elves and dragons were but a myth, a change in the world's climate began to bring destruction to human civilizations, one by one. America had shielded themselves from the scorching heatwaves by relocating their population to Alaska where they terraformed the snowy lands into arable farmlands.

There were another group of survivors in Antarctica. Those who had been living in research stations came together, pooling their resources to establish a makeshift city state at the Concordia Research Station. When the American navy arrived, they chose to evacuate only their own citizens, refusing to help the others. This act of selfishness outraged the stranded research personnel who felt abandoned and betrayed.

From the perspective of America, they were already dedicating the bulk of their resources to the task of terraforming Alaska and weren't in the position of helping the others in Antarctica. They simply couldn't afford to assist others. As a result, an increasing number of climate refugees sought refuge in Antarctica.

Over time, more climate refugees came to Antarctica and new settlements were built, eventually a man named Adam was elected as the President of Antarctica. Due to the harsh conditions, many Antarcticans had shorter lifespans compared to the Americans, prompting Adam to order his scientists to find a way to extend their lives.

Adam admired Roman civilization. He decreed that Latin would become the official language of Antarctica with English serving as the second language. The upper class of Antarctica adopted Latin names with Adam taking the name of Aurum Melior.

Aaravos led a research program to extend the human lifespan through a process known as the E.L.F (Enhanced Living Form). He carefully observed as the E.L.F procedure was applied to a test subject. As the procedure was done, the subject's ears became pointed, her hands morphed from having five fingers to four per hand and her feet were morphed to have four toes instead of five.

As Aaravos and his team conducted further examinations, it became clear that the subject now possessed the potential to live for up to two hundred years. He proclaimed this newly evolved race as "elves" taking inspiration from the Alfheimr of Norse legends.
