Chapter Text
Kaoru scrolled through a list of profiles made by Carla. Each candidate had qualities that deemed them a respectable option. The prospects have to be a college graduate with a good work ethic, a healthy lineage, and have physical features that are deemed appealing. Politicians, business owners, even models made the register. He checked off a few that caught his eye, sending an automated message from Carla to schedule a meeting. He wasn’t looking for a spark or anything like that, but he would like to have a small conversation with them before signing a contract. No matter how methodical he was going to make this there had to be at least a small part of him that could tolerate them to make this work.
The first meeting took place at Sia La Luce later that week. Kenji Ishii. 32. Brown hair. Brown eyes. A Graduate from Waseda University with a Bachelors in Global Japanese Studies. Kenji was polite and relatively good looking but as each minute dragged on it became clear to Kauro this one would not work out. He was simply…..boring. He struggled to hold conversation or grasp the concept of AI calligraphy. Once an hour had gone by Kaoru ended the interview declining to schedule a follow-up.
He waved down his server to fill up his glass with white wine, letting out a big sigh. This was only the first one and he was already exhausted.
“Wow pinky, bad date or what.” Kojiro said, taking the seat across from him
“It wasn’t a date.”
“Well thank god for that because it was torture to watch. If it wasn’t a date then what was that all about? You both looked so serious.”
Kaoru sipped his wine, he knew this was going to be difficult to explain to someone like Kojiro.
“We looked serious because it was serious. If you must know, I'm interviewing potential candidates.”
“Candidates for what? Are you in the market for a life insurance policy? He doesn’t look like could sell you a used car much less-
“No you fool, a candidate for a sire.”
Kojiro choked on his own spit mid laugh. ”A sire?!”
“Yes, I’m interested in having a pup. I’m turning 29 this year. I may not have an alpha but it is expected of me to provide an heir to the Sakurayashiki name. To achieve this goal I am interviewing alphas who fit a certain criteria so that I may choose the one who would make the most compatible child with me.”
Kaoru watched a series of emotions play across Kojiro’s face before clearing his throat.” As you see this is a serious matter that must be handled with the utmost care.”
Kojiro was silent for a moment, “ So you're looking for a baby daddy?” He burst out laughing. “ God Kaoru if you wanted to get laid all you had to do was ask one of your fan club members at S.”
Kaoru huffed,” You don’t understand. It can’t be just anyone. And it is not about getting laid. I will be calculating my highest fertility dates so it will take as little of that as possible.”
“ Taking all the fun out of it, what else should I have expected from you. But really, Kaoru, this is too much even for you.”
“Like I said, you don’t understand. This is the most effective way of getting what I want. The alphas Carla has chosen for me-”
“Carla is in on this too?”
“She has chosen alphas that would make a pup with desirable qualities and bring the best of mine and theirs traits.”
“So how many more interviews do you have to do, four eyes?”
Kaoru rolled his eyes at the nickname, “20 in total. I’m bound to find at least one alpha within the list.”
Ren Suzuki. 29. Black hair. Gray eyes. Kyoto University. Masters in Economics. He seemed more interested in the food than Kaoru himself.
Hiro Tanaka. 35. Yellow hair. Red eyes. University of Tsukuba. Doctorate in Public Human Health. He was passionate about his work and cared for the well being of people in general.
Arata Kato. The oldest on his list at 48. A Politician who, like him, did not agree with Ainosuke Shindo.
By interview 17 Kaoru was tired. Nothing was particularly wrong with the candidates but no one seemed to really click. He wanted the sire of his pup to not only be intelligent but hardworking, passionate, and caring. Maybe he needed to tweak Carla’s requirements list.
He was sitting at the bar at Sia La Luce after another failed interview when he began to watch Kojiro. It was the middle of the dinner rush and he was handling it with ease, he even has smile on his face as he slung out dish after dish, joking with the staff and making small talk with customers. Kojiro always put everything he had into his restaurant, making sure things went smoothly and enjoyed doing it too. He would often cover shifts when someone called out with no complaint. Spent hours after closing creating new dishes for the seasonal menu. Experimenting with desserts to make them better.
Studying Kojiro had suddenly become a problem. He was the perfect candidate. He graduated from a University in Italy, was passionate about his job putting in extra time and effort to make sure it exceeded, and he was, unfortunately, not bad to look at either.
Two weeks had gone by since the interviews started. Maybe he was just desperate
“Carla, pull up all the information you have on Nanjo Kojiro.”
“Yes Master.”
She stated the facts about Kojiro, some coming from listening to personal experience between the two. Including how good he was with the boys and often protected Reki and helped Miya study. He would feed them all for free since the children clearly had no money.
“That’s enough, Carla.”
She stopped her analysis and Kaoru took another sip of wine, keeping his eye on Kojiro. Just how was he going to bring this up?
He waited out the dinner rush, contemplating how to ask Kojiro. Was Kojiro even into men? Sure he was an omega and had all the parts he liked but he was a man. Even if he was into men, would he be interested in sex with Kaoru? There were so many factors that played into that his overthinking caused times to fly by. He found himself the only one in the dining room swirling an ounce of wine in his glass.
“It’s good wine, you know that pinky.” Kojiro said as he leaned across the bar.
“Hmmm. Yes, it is a good wine.” He drained the glass of what was left in it.
“Another bad interview?”
“It wasn’t bad, just lacking.”
“Lacking?”
“Yes you gorilla, lacking. All these candidates hit the mark but they seem to be lacking something.”
“Anything I can help you with, I hate seeing you look so sad.”
“I’m not sad, frustrated, but not sad.” Kaoru straightened himself on his seat. “There might be something you can help me with though.”
“And what is that exactly?”
“Be the sire to my pup.”
He ready himself for a laugh or loud no. He didn’t expect a breathy “Yes” to escape Kojiro’s lips.
