Stede and Ed lay on the sand, hand in hand, and looked up at the endless black night and its blanket of stars.
“Remember that first night on the maintop?” Ed asked.
“How could I forget?” Stede replied.
“I’ve never fallen asleep around a stranger like that. I was already most of the way in love with you.”
Stede looked over at him and smiled. “I didn’t know what it was, but I was pretty much in love with you, too.”
“We make a good pair, hmm?” Stede hummed.
“Made for each other, I think.” Ed squeezed his hand gently.
