In Their Own Quirky Ways

Summary:

"There's nothing wrong with that! It's just something Agott does a little differently! It's unique to you! In fact, it's great! It's Agreat!!"

Forget the Brimhats, forget whatever disaster their atelier managed to get involved in next time, forget the Library, the Assembly and the Arkromes.

This girl, barely a beginner in their world, with her bright smile and stars in her eyes, and her frankly astonishing magic was going to be the end of her.

Notes:

I've wanted to post this for so long!

Work Text:

Agott was now used to Coco occasionally (quite often) staring from her workbench while Agott drew magic.

She was also fairly used to Coco's sudden exclamations and actions from the sidelines, so she didn't startle or let her hand deviate the pen from its path on the paper in the slightest.

"What is it?" she simply asked after lifting her pen above paper, when Coco let out a gasp of "Ah!" in realisation.

Coco flushed, hiding her face in her hands. "It's nothing," she insisted. "Please don't mind me and continue. I don't want to disturb you!"

"You do realise saying that only makes me more curious, right?"

Coco lowered her hands and laced her fingers together. "Well, it's really just something I noticed… the way you draw arrows."

Arrows?

"What about it?"

"Well…" Coco wrung and twisted her hands as she spoke. "I just noticed that you draw the lines of the body first, instead of the arrowheads."

"Huh?"

Agott mimicked drawing an arrow midair, and repeated the gesture a couple more times to be sure.

Coco was right.

"Like I said, it's just something I noticed, that's all! When Professor Qifrey taught me, I saw that he drew the arrowheads first. And from what I've seen, everyone else does so too!"

She shouldn't be surprised by the fact that Coco observed everyone drawing magic so closely at this point, but she was anyway. If she were to be generous, she might even call herself impressed.

"-And I couldn't figure out why it felt off when you did it, and I just realised it! So that's that!"

Off? There was no reason for it to be so, it wasn't like Agott was doing anything wrong.

"There's nothing wrong with drawing the body first!" she exclaimed, suddenly defensive.

Immediately afterwards, she scolded herself. Why did she have to be so sensitive about the smallest comment about her magic? How was she ever going to be a fully fledged witch at this rate?

"Wrong?!" Coco exclaimed, aghast, flailing her arms around. How she found the energy to convey every emotion with these many gestures, Agott had no idea.

"There's nothing wrong with that! It's just something Agott does a little differently! It's unique to you! In fact, it's great! It's Agreat!!"

Agott blinked rapidly in confusion, turning a deep shade of red. Were they still talking about arrows?

"It's fine, I understand what you were trying to say, so you can stop already! It's not a big deal. Just a habit, like you said. It's nothing that special."

"Well, I think everything about Agott and her magic is special." Coco said boldly.

How could she even say something like that with such a straight face?

Agott buried her face in her hands, mortified and flushed bright red to the tips of her ears.

"Agott? What's wrong?" Suddenly, Coco was right next to her and almost in her face.

Oh stars, this girl was going to be the death of her.

"Too close…" she whispered.

"Are you alright? You're looking quite a bit red there, are you sick?"

"Yes!" Agott shouted, jumping at the first opportunity of an excuse. "That's right! I stayed up too late last night, so," she grabbed her blanket and pulled it over her head, "I'm a little tired! That's all! I'll be sleeping now! Don't you disturb me!"

"If you say so…"

"I do."

"Right…"

Agott buried her face in the pillow.

Oh dear.

Funnily enough, she didn't mind.

Notes:

I survived midterms! Or at least, 60% of it. But I'm free until Saturday, so I'm posting this right now!

Here's some pure, tooth rotting fluff with these two!
