Work Text:
Suguru is leaving.
Satoru is letting him go.
It feels like the world is closing in on Satoru. People bustle around him, oblivious to the turmoil raging within Suguru, who is living through the worst day of his life.
A new path beckons Suguru, a fresh start. Getou repeats these words to himself, a mantra to mask the pain of seeing his friend depart. The ache of Satoru letting him go gnaws at him with every step he takes. Each step felt heavier than the last, as if the ground itself was trying to keep him from moving forward.
He keeps walking, aware that any faltering might compel him to turn back, to reach out for Satoru's embrace.
"Let him go as he's letting you go," his mind implores him. He knows all too well that it's easier to forget those haunting blue eyes in anger than in longing.
He continues onward, each step taking him further from the only person who ever brought him happiness, who showed him what happiness truly meant. Suguru knows he's doing the right thing, pursuing beliefs he holds dear. Yet, why does it hurt so much if it's the right path?
"Enough," Suguru thinks. He must leave this behind. He's strong; he doesn't need Satoru, doesn't want him by his side. Gojo won't be affected by his departure; he's the strongest. He doesn't need—
Suguru's thoughts shatter as arms envelop him from behind. No words are spoken. There was no need to turn around; he could recognized that touch anywhere in the universe. No one moved, and Satoru's embrace tightened, as if he could convey all the unspoken emotions through that one gesture.
Suguru remained silent, afraid that any words he uttered might release the flood of tears he'd been suppressing for far too long. He felt Satoru's unsteady breath against his neck, mirroring his own inner turmoil. The resolve he'd gathered to leave shattered like fragile glass.
When Suguru finally turns to meet Satoru's gaze, he's met with those hauntingly beautiful, melancholic blue eyes, now streaked with tears. He despises himself for marring that perfection. The determination that had propelled him to leave crumbles, piece by agonizing piece.
"Don't leave me, Suguru, I beg you," Satoru pleads, fresh tears cascading down his cheeks. In that moment, Suguru realize that perhaps neither of them is as strong as he believed.
