Work Text:
Callum has never felt so happy until now. Watching his aunt finally marry the love of her life, the love in her eyes made him tear up. After all the things she has gone through, she’s finally found happiness with Janai.
But watching them made Callum think of his own love life. About a week ago, Rayla and Callum officially decided that it was time for them to get back together. Even though it was obvious they still had feelings for each other when they weren’t “together”.
He gazed at Rayla talking with Soren and Corvus, she looked absolutely gorgeous.
She wore a teal dress with her long hair down. Callum loved seeing her hair down, it made her look even more gorgeous than ever.
“Hey I’ll give you the new book you wanted if you ask Rayla to dance.” His little brother Ezran whispered to him.
Callum blushed. “Will she even want to? I mean we just got back together. Wouldn’t it be awkward?” Callum stammered.
“No it wouldn’t, she loves you Callum. I’m sure you asking her for a dance will make her day.” Ezran looked over at Rayla who looked over at them smiling.
“Go get her.” Ezran pushed Callum towards Rayla. Corvus and Soren gave a knowing look, and backed off. Going to get cake at the dessert table.
“Hi Callum, why are you sweating? It’s not that hot in here is it?” Rayla asked.
“Um Rayla, so uh I was thinking. What if we?” He stuttered.
“I’d love to dance with you dumb human.” She took his hand, and led him to the dance floor.
They took place in the center of the dance floor, she put his hands on her waist and she put hers over his shoulders.
People started to notice, making a big circle to watch the couple dance.
“Callum, everyone’s watching us now.” She blushed.
“Don’t worry about them, it’s just me and you right now.” He smiled at her lovingly.
Amaya looked over at Glenn, and signed “when it’s the bouquet toss time, I’m gonna make sure it gets to Rayla.”
Gren laughed. “Sounds like a plan.” He signed back.
The song ended, and everyone clapped for Rayla and Callum. Both blushed in embarrassment.
“Aww they’re so cute!” Soren squealed. “I want what they have.”
Corvus smiled at him. Taking his hand.
The time of the bouquet toss arrived. Amaya got onto a podium, and all the unmarried people gathered around.
Soren in the front row, waiting desperately for the bouquet.
As soon as Amaya threw the bouquet, everyone’s hands went up. But they landed in a certain elf’s hands.
Her face turned dark red.
“Better get working on the ring Callum.” Janai said to her new nephew.
Callum smiled. “We’ll get there eventually.”
As soon as the party ended, Rayla sat outside looking over the city of Katolis. Still holding the bouquet of flowers.
Apparently the human tradition, is if you catch the bouquet. You’re next to be wed. Ezran explained to her earlier.
Her? Married? She wouldn’t have imagined that in a million years. Until she met Callum. She wanted to spend the rest of her days with him, he was her safe place.
Even when she was gone for 2 years, she still needed him more than anything.
“Can I sit here?”
She turned around to see Callum, she patted the seat next to her. Which he gladly took.
“Now I need to get a vase to put these in.” Rayla put the bouquet to the side.
“Oh don’t worry, we have plenty of those.” Callum said.
They both laughed.
“I guess I’m next to get married if the bouquet thing was true.” Rayla smiled.
“Maybe it’s true this time.”
Rayla looked over at him. He sat up.
Then got down on one knee. She put her hands to her mouth.
“I mean, I was kind of planning on it for a while.” He pulled out a ring box. The ring had a moon opal in it.
“Rayla of the silver groove, will you marry me?”
“Yes, a thousand times yes.” She pulled him up into a kiss.
The moon was shining extra bright tonight.
