Work Text:

When Whizzer came back home from Charlotte and Cordelia’s house, Marvin was writing in a little red notebook that Whizzer had never seen before.

“What is that?” Whizzer asked, taking off his jacket and hanging it up by the bedroom door. Marvin’s head snapped up and his eyes were almost comically wide.

“Um. Nothing, uh, just some… Work stuff. It’s boring, don’t worry about it,” he explained, shutting his notebook and putting it on the bedside table before pulling the covers off Whizzer’s side of the bed so he can climb in next to him. “How was dinner with Cordelia? Has she improved?”

Whizzer briefly looked at the notebook, then shrugged, stripped his jeans off and got into bed. “No,” he said, and curled into Marvin’s side. He felt more than saw Marvin reach over to turn the lamp off and suddenly hii head was burried in Marvin’s chest, the man’s arms wrapped around him, and they were both asleep in minutes.

-

Whizzer had completely forgotten about the notebook a few days later, until he woke up one morning in an empty bed. He huffed and rubbed his eyes before getting out of bed and slowly making his way to the kitchen for a coffee. He soon found himself in the doorway in Marvin’s red hoodie and a pair of grey boxers that may or may not have been Marvin’s too, and the only thing he could see was the back of his boyfriend’s head. Whizzer glanced at the clock on the wall and grinned.

“Morning, Marv,” he said, and Marvin spun around to face him. He was smiling, which was a very rare occurance so early in the morning.

“Good morning,” Marvin replied, and got out of his chair to kiss Whizzer on the cheek. “How are you?”

“Um, tired. And also wondering why you haven’t left for work yet.”

Marvin pulled back. “What?” Whizzer pointed at the clock, and watched as Marvin’s face dropped when he turned to face it.

“Fuck! Oh my God, fuck, uh, right, okay. I’m going. Shit, my boss is gonna kill me!” Marvin rambled, gathering everything he needed to take with him as he practically ran around the house. His voice got quieter and quieter until Whizzer heard the front door open and close. He laughed to himself and sat down where Marvin had been sitting, getting ready to finish his boyfriend’s coffee when he spotted the little red notebook again, a black pen and a red pen laying beside it.

“Huh.” He reached over and grabbed the notebook, flicking through the seemingly endless pages of numbers and statistics and other stuff Whizzer really didn’t care about until a certain page caught his eye.

It had a lot of red, he noticed at first glance, and then he started reading.

On the top corner of the page, Marvin had written “M + W” and drawn a handful of little red hearts around it. Next to that was a, frankly, terrible doodle of Whizzer surrounded by a bigger red heart. A few sappy notes were littered around the page in Marvin’s almost illegible handwriting and Whizzer smiled wider than he had ever smiled before when he saw that, right in the middle, it said “Marvin Brown.”

He stared at the page for a few more seconds (okay, it was twenty five minutes, what about it?) and then drank the cold coffee on the table before hurrying back to bed. He didn’t have any plans for the day until Marvin came home, but he was sure that if he did, he wouldn’t have been able to think about anything else but Marvin’s little red notebook.

-

Whizzer tried very hard not to bring it up all day, it was in his throat every time he looked at Marvin, and he looked at Marvin 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵. But it was all worth it the next morning, when Whizzer walked into the kitchen to see the back of Marvin’s head again and said “Good morning,” then waited for him to turn around, taking a sip of coffee, before continuing; “Marvin Brown.”

Marvin was late to work again that day.
