Work Text:
“Now, Y/N. Daddy needs you to be on your bestest behaviour for Uncle Sevy, okay?” Lucius asked you as he hugged you tight. Pushing away, you sighed as you looked at your father. “Dad. I’m eight years old. I’m not a baby anymore.” Lucius shook his head at your words. “You will always be my baby.” Watching your father leave you turned around and looked up at your godfather. “So what are we gonna do Uncle Sevy?”
“I will be preparing for my next lesson. You, on the other hand, will be in the library. You can read there, in peace,” Severus added, knowing how much you hated being disturbed from your books. Nodding, you walked off to the library, relishing in the silence since all students were in class. Well, they were supposed to be. You frowned when you entered the room and spotted a ginger haired boy. You knew straight away he was a Weasley, but you weren’t sure which one. And from the way Draco described them, it was best you stay away. Making yourself comfortable on the sofa, you grew engrossed in your book that you hadn’t noticed the Weasley boy eyeing your plate of cookies. Making his way towards you, he worked up the courage to ask for one. He knew who you were. Everyone knew who you were. Little Miss Y/N Narcissa Malfoy being babysat but her Uncle Sevy.
“Woah, that’s a big book for someone pretty small,” the ginger haired boy said, diverting your eyes from the page to his face. You were surprised to see he was talking to you, despite the library being almost empty. “Uh, yeah. I like reading,” you commented, not fully sure how to respond. “You’re not supposed to eat cookies in here though,” the boy added, pointedly nodding at the plate of cookies on the table nearby. “Well, I’m special.”
He teasingly scoffed. “I know. You are a Malfoy after all.” You put your book down when you heard him say that. “How’d you know that?” You asked. “Don’t worry about it,” he grinned. “But… If you don’t wanna get into trouble for eating in the library, I’ll keep your secret. For a price of course,” he winked. Now it was your turn to laugh. “Go for it,” you nodded, pushing the plate closer to him as you returned your attention back to your book. Turning the page over for the tenth time in the past five minutes, you reached out for a cookie, only to be surprised when the plate was missing. You lifted the book off your lap and placed it down on the sofa, as you turned around to look for the missing plate. Turning back around, you pouted until you saw the same ginger haired boy looking for a book from the shelf. Storming up to him you gently tapped him on the back, all the while remaining stern as you looked up at him. Looking at his familiar face you quietly lectured whilst being polite, “Hey, I know I said “go for it” but I was only expecting you to take one or two, so if you don’t mind, I’d like my cookies back.”
The boy looked at you, so confused. He had just entered the library, searching for his brother and got distracted by the books. As he looked at you, he realised straight away you were a Malfoy. The littlest one. The one he had seen a few times with Severus when he was forced to babysit. Although, you were a lot smaller back then. “Uh, what cookies?” He asked, blankly looking at you. However, you didn’t buy his act. “You know what, cookies. They were over there, on the table.”
Realising what had happened, the boy sighed as he tried to explain before he was interrupted by his brother. “Hey, George-” he started before stopping in his tracks when he saw you. Your eyes widened as you glanced back and forth between the two boys. “Wait, what’s going on?” You asked, confused. You knew there were several Weasley children, but these two looked practically the same. “Sorry about him,” George mumbled as he looked at his brother. “Did you seriously finish all of them?” George asked.
Fred laughed as he shook his head. “Of course not, Fred!” Fred grinned, pretending to be his brother. “Are you guys Weasleys?” you asked. Both twins fell silent; they knew that your father didn’t like theirs, and that your brother didn’t like their youngest brother, so they were rather sceptical about you. They hadn’t seen you in a while, but when they first saw you and heard you call Severus ‘Sevy’ they wondered if you would be different. “Yeah, we are actually.” George answered, standing up straight and proud. “That makes sense. Are you guys Ron’s brothers?” You asked. You knew Ron; he was friends with Harry. You liked the both of them, they were always very nice to you especially when they knew it irritated your brother to no end. “Yeah, actually we are,” Fred replied this time. “Cool. I’m Y/N. And you are?” You asked them, sitting on top of the table.
“Fred.”
“George.”
“George.”
“Fred.”
You glanced back and forth trying to figure out which twin was which. You shook your head when you realised they were playing a trick on you. “No, Fred is the one who stole my cookies. That’s you, which makes you George.”
“What’d you know? She’s a smart one. She’s-”
“-a potential Ravenclaw, definitely.”
You raised your eyebrow as they finished each other’s sentences. “I like Ravenclaw,” you hummed. “I like Astronomy too. Are you both Gryffindors?” you asked, despite already knowing from their ties and the countless stories Draco and Lucius told you about the Weasleys. “Yeah, we are,” Fred nodded.
You were just about to ask them another question when you were interrupted by the sound of familiar footsteps. “Y/N,” Severus called out for you. You were just about to respond, when George brought a finger to his lips and shook his head, silently telling you not to answer. “Quick! Hide!” Fred whispered before pulling George with him as they rushed to hide behind one of the bookshelves.
“Y/N!” Severus repeated. This time you did respond. “Yes, Uncle Sevy?” You asked, earning a snigger from behind the books, causing you to smirk. “Ah, there you are. What are you doing in this section?” Severus asked, looking in disgust at the Astronomy books. “You know I love Astronomy,” you pouted when you saw his expression. “Not more than Potions, I would hope,” he mumbled, causing you to giggle. “I love them both the same.” With a satisfied look, Severus left the library. Once the coast was clear, you motioned for the twins to reappear from their hiding spot. “Uncle Sevy,” Fred teased. “Oh, I’m gonna use that,” he grinned.
“I should probably go,” you said as you walked over to where you left your book. “Wait,” Fred called out. Revealing the plate of cookies he had hidden behind a book, you smiled as he offered you one. “Thanks, Fred,” you smiled.
“I’m not Fred. I’m George.” You looked him up and down before noticing a slight difference in their face structures. Not easy to notice upon first glance, but there was a difference. “Nope,” you grinned as you bit into the cookie. “You’re Fred. He’s George,” you said, pointing at the twin who was now sitting down at the table, propping his feet up as he leaned back and entwined his hands behind his back.
“Oh, c’mon. How can you tell that easily? You only just met us today!” Fred asked, groaning at how he couldn’t trick you.
“You’re smart. You figure it out,” you quipped, before leaving the library with your book in your hands.
“I like that kid.” George chuckled as he reached for the last cookie.
“Me too.”
