Work Text:
Seperation. A concept that was foreign to her. Sure, she's been apart from a few friends here and there, but they never really hurt her too much, since she could always see them again. Also, she's never exactly felt such a strong emotion towards someone that being separated from them would hurt, so she still considers herself to be unfamiliar to the feeling of being separated. However, it was now looming over her heart like a shadow.
Now, she had let her future be intertwined with a Trailblazer.
The Trailblazers. A group that travels the Astral Express to rid worlds of their withering. Yet never could she have expected to fall for one of them. Sure, they had a rather rough meeting, marked by loyalty and crossed weapons, but it worked out in the end. As the one who contributed so much to protect Belobog, it was almost expected that she would fall for him. He was an interesting man, Bronya thought. Despite his lost memories, he still finds time to help out of pure kindness. Yet she knew. She knew that their relationship wouldn't work out very well. They had their responsibilities, yet she was determined. Determined to make it work. Determined to make a future with him. She refused to let their distance be a factor to her feelings towards him.
"I'll see you soon, Bronya."
And so, the two seperated. Yet, they never lost hope. For the stars would always guide the two to reunite someday. She couldn't wait for that day to come.
_______
As the wheels of time turned, never showing signs of stopping, she's become familiar to the feeling of longing. Ever since he had left, the days stretched into weeks, the weeks into months, and the separation would continue to grow more agonizing. Sure, they still kept in touch, thanks to technology. Even still, despite everything, the almost daily video calls, the fascinating stories and situations he put himself in, it wasn't enough, and it never will be. She longed for him. For his warmth. His presence.
Despite how painful it was, she had to keep a face. For the city of Belobog, she could never show this side of her. Rebuilding Belobog was still her priority, and she knew this. She knew this would happen. It was a sacrifice she was willing to make, but it didn't make it easier. Every night, she would look at the stars, wondering where or what she was doing. She misses him, terribly. Yet she knew this would be temporary. She will continue to hope it was. For now, she would continue to perform her duties and responsibilities, just like him.
However, she didn't expect to be rewarded so early.
It was a normal day for her so far. Progress on rebuilding the city was going smoother than expected. Fragmentum attacks were now rather uncommon, and the city was showing signs of returning to a former glory.
The Supreme Guardian's chamber may as well be her second home. She's spent nearly every second of her life in this room, and today was no different. Mountains of paperwork would stretch high into the air. Her mind, however, couldn't fully concentrate on the tasks at hand. The longing she felt almost seemed to intensify, and thoughts of him kept creeping into her mind. She sighed, forcing herself to concentrate. As she immersed herself back into her work, a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
"Come in," she called out, her voice laced with weariness. The door slid open, as a blonde haired man entered room.
"Lady Bronya, there is someone that wishes to meet your presence. Shall I let them in?"
Bronya looked up from her desk, her weariness momentarily forgotten. "Who is it?" She asked, intrigued by the unexpected visitor.
"It's a traveler from afar," he replied. "They said they have a message for you."
Curiosity piqued, Bronya motioned for the messenger to allow the visitor in. A few moments later, a figure stepped into the room, and Bronya's heart skipped a beat.
It was him. Her Trailblazer. The one who stole her heart only to leave immediately after. The one who she has been longing for so long.
She stood up from her desk, eyes wide with surprise and joy. "Caelus...?"
A warm smile was coloring his face, and his eyes were filled with the same longing she had been agonizing over. "Yup. That's me." He said, his voice filled with sarcasm. Even in a touching reunion, he can still crack a joke.
Unable to contain her emotions any longer, Bronya rushed towards him, wrapping her arms around him in a tight embrace. She held onto him for dear life, fearing that if even her grip was a little weak, he would disappear. It seemed like he had the same thought, as he circled his arms around her. This was it. The feeling of warmth the two had missed for so long. They held each other for what felt like eternity in silence, before it was broken by Bronya.
"I missed you..." She whispered, her voice filled with happiness.
"I missed you too. I'm sorry for leaving you, so please let me make it up to you." He responded, tightening the grip he had on her. She simply said nothing, letting the waterfall of tears fall down her face.
For the most part, she was happy. Yet she was aware that he couldn't stay for long, since the life of trailblazing is all about traversing the stars, no matter the distance. Yet, the thought didn't even cross her mind. It didn't matter to her.
All that was in her mind was him. Sure, he'll leave again sometime soon. So she's going to have to spend as much time as she can with him.
She didn't know how long she had, but she was certainly going to make it count.
