Work Text:
I finally left Ala Migho.
I left my home and my mother behind.
I promised her that I would return and when I did, I would save Ala Mhigo. But I think she put on a brave face for me, because she didn't seem to keen to let go of my hand when I left. Maybe she doesn't think I can do it, that I can save our people. Or maybe she's just being a mom, I don't know. But I can't sit around and be treated like shit by those Garlean savages. Assholes, the lot of them. Only too happy to shit on those they deem "lesser than" as if the dirt on their boots is worth more than the lives they hurt. Fuck them.
Anyway.
The journey to Eorzea hasn't been easy. I didn't expect it to be, but it was definitely way harder than I anticipated. I'm thankful that mom taught me how to be resourceful, how to survive different terrains and hunt and fish. I don't think I would've made it this far without that. I still wish dad were here though. He could've taught me how to fight. I don't think I'm bad at it, but I know I still have so much more to learn. I need to get stronger if I'm ever going to save my home.
But more than that...
I need to figure out what these dreams of mine mean. Since that first one, it's always been the same.
Fire raining down from the heavens, the sky dark, the horizon burning. Walking through buildings as they fall apart, while horrifying monsters attack large, cloaked people who scream in agony and terror. I can do nothing but watch the destruction rain down around me. I feel angry and sad in equal measure, with a deep yearning to change the course history must take.
I have no idea why it started in the first place, nor why it continues to be the same. Surely it must mean something, right? And with the dreams I have waking visions. It's like... like I can see other people's memories as if I were there or as if they were my own. It hits me like the worst migraine and brings me to my knees, but I can never tell when it'll happen. I'm hoping that Eorzea will have answers for me.
Oh! Finally, there's a carriage willing to take me to Ul'dah! Finally I can get some rest before my real purpose begins.
---
Ul'dah is much, much larger than I could ever have dreamed of it being. The city is bustling with life and people of all types roam about their business. And the wealth in every corner! I swear I can hear the gil jingle in every pocket, there's so much of it around.
Before I forget, I have to write what happened on the carriage ride. I had a different dream this time, but it was less like a dream and more like a vision. I was suspended in space and there was a voice... it was a beautiful, feminine voice that came from everywhere. She said Hear. Feel. Think. It was so dark and empty, but there was a tiny light that beckoned me forward.
So I started walking toward it, with her words echoing in my head. But then a whorl of darkness appeared and out of it stepped a person! For a split second I thought it might be the owner of the voice but their aura hit me before anything else and I immediately felt like I had to fight for my life. And then I felt this power like I'd never felt before burning through me, and I could feel, instinctively, what I needed to do.
I let the power course through me and felt it push towards my fist, and with a burst of energy I rushed toward the figure and just punched as hard as I could. But then I woke up and I don't know what happened to them. I know they were dangerous though.
I remember being snapped out of my reverie by a merchant in the carriage. Brendt, I think his name was. He told me a little about Ul'dah, how it's the wealthiest city state in Eorzea, how it's riddled with problems. He also told me about how the Sultana, though ruler, doesn't have much power - that a group called the Syndicate holds the real power in Ul'dah. If I'm going to get any help to save Ala Mhigo I'm most likely going to have to win each of them over first. Just another bump in my plan.
As Brendt was saying that we were stopped by some guards patrolling the road. It was obvious they were just looking for trouble - they reminded me of the Garlean patrols in Ala Gannha. I hate their kind with a passion. Thankfully for us, but not so thankfully for them, we were accosted by a group of incredibly large creatures that I think the merchant called Amal'jaa. We were able to ride away while they fought.
And now I'm here in this bustling city. I've already been told that I have to register with the Adventurer's Guild with a woman named Momodi at an inn called the Quicksand. So many names and places I'm going to have to remember! I can only be thankful that I at least don't have the language barrier my parents did when they first came through here.
I do, however, have the same problem with people staring. Though there are many types of people that I can see, there don't seem to be other Vieras like me. Or maybe they're just staring because it's obvious I'm not from here? I just thought of that.
For now though I'll just have to forget about all that stuff and make my way to meet Momodi.
