Work Text:
You started getting ready for bed. Your mother had enough on her plate. Getting you ready for bed was not something she should have to worry about. You quickly put the leftover pizza in the oven and threw away the trash. You were brushing your teeth when you heard the car pull in. You stood outside the bathroom as your mother unlocked the front door.
“Hey Sweetpea,” Your mom yawned, “you know what time it is?”
“No…”
“Too late for you to be awake,” she reached down and picked you up. She rolled her eyes at your sleeping father before making her way to your room. “It may be Friday but you still have to be in bed by ten. We have a busy day ahead of us.”
She put you in your bed with a kiss on your forehead. She arranged your blankets to cover you and gently patted you on the head.
“Good night Sweet Pea.” Your mother walked towards the door.
“W-wait!” You yelled.
“Yes?”
“Could you get me Mr. Cuddles? And maybe turn on my nightlight?” Your mother sighed before reaching into your toybox and grabbing the bear. She quickly turned on the nightlight on your bedside dresser.
“That better?” You nodded.
“Good.” She sighed. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Momma.”
“And thank you for being a big kid during this whole move. I know it wasn’t easy leaving but…”
“But Daddy lost his job? After what happened?”
“Yep. And we couldn’t afford that big house anymore.”
“And because we moved I had to go to a new school?”
“You’re pretty smart for your age, huh?” She kissed your forehead. “I’ll see you in the morning. Sleep tight…”
“Don’t let the bed bugs bite.” She chuckled as she shut the door.
You didn’t get much sleep that night. You had an odd feeling something was watching you, and you swore you saw a hand outside your window. You slammed your eyes shut, trying your best to sleep, even though you saw eyes in a dark corner of your room.
