The Pandering? Yeah.

Summary:

George feels used by Dream on stream, and they have a little chat about it in the bathroom.

“I can’t... with you.” he said, softer than he wanted to. “What?” Dream responded, his smile fading away as a frown took its place. George wanted to scream because he was just so beautiful.

Work Text:

George was sitting on a chair in the kitchen next to Sapnap, when Dream squeezed past Puffy to stand by him. Dream moved closer to George and then wrapped his arms around him from the side, with a knowing smile on his face. George watched as the chat flooded with ‘ohmygod’ and ‘dnf is real!!’ He hated the fucking pandering.

He considered pushing the blonde off, attempting to keep his expression blank, he acted cold. He tried to ignore the butterflies that filled his stomach once Dream’s arms were around him. “Oh my god, it’s hot in here.” George said, suddenly. Before he stood up to leave. He sometimes hated the feeling of being on camera too long and watching the chat speed by with some of the most stupid shit he had ever read, he couldn’t stand it.

The sound of Bad and Puffy talking to chat followed by sounds of Hannah and Ant laughing echoed from the kitchen as George got further away.

The thing about the Dream Team house is there were so many places to sit. Skeppy was in the lounge right next to the kitchen, sitting by Sam and Sylvee. There were so many people in the house. George went to the main living room and sat on the couch.

“You good?” a voice rang from behind him, and George nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just tired.” he responded, knowing his lie couldn't get past his roommate, but he knew he’d respect his privacy. “Okay..” the other said, sitting a few cushions away, grabbing his phone out of his pocket.

Sapnap and George could sit in complete silence and still enjoy each other's company, usually. Only tonight George was seething. His eyes rested on Dream, standing in the kitchen, and talking on stream but staying off camera. He immediately rolled his eyes and got his phone from his pocket. Sapnap had watched the whole thing as he looked over his phone.

“Dude, what happened?” he said, scooting a little closer, lowering his volume so only George could hear him. George scoffed and stood up, “Nothing, I literally just said I’m tired.” He shot back, the tone was more aggressive than George had intended. The two went back to silently scrolling, nonetheless. “I have to pee.” George said, getting up and walking to the bathroom and shutting the door.

Once stared at himself in the mirror, he saw the tears that had been building up in his eyes. “Fucking idiot.” he said to himself, turning the faucet and collecting water in his hands, before splashing it on his face.

He just didn’t get how Dream could be like that. On camera? Holding him, staring at him just for the fucking camera? George hated how Dream didn’t feel the same way he did. He felt as though Dream held the sun up for him. Like he hung the moon and stars in the sky. When he looked at Dream, the whole world melted away. But to Dream, he knew he was just a way to get more views. At least, that’s what George forced himself to believe.

There was truly no way Dream saw George the same way, it was all a joke to him. George didn’t realize tears began pouring out of his eyes when there was a knock in the bathroom door.

“George?” the voice said, softly and silently. The brit could place that voice anywhere, it was unmistakably Dream. “Are you in there?” Dream continued. “Yeah I’m in here.” He responded, sounding way more upset than he planned. Fuck. George noticed as Dream’s voice filled with concern.

“Are you okay?” he asked in a softer tone, clearly leaning on the door. “Yeah.” George lied. One thing that sucked about living together after knowing each other for half their lives was that Dream could tell when George was lying, and he could tell when George was sad.

“Can... I come in?” George froze. He didn’t want Dream to see him like this, and he definitely didn’t know how to explain why he was even crying in the first place. George said no in his head a million times. Things like; ‘No I’m good’ ‘Why would you even come in here, idiot.’ spun around his head like a tornado of words. George splashed his face with water once more, and dried his face on a towel.

“Yeah...” George betrayed his thoughts. “Yeah, you can.” He sat on the bathroom floor, scooting away from the door when it opened. George regretted it the second he locked eyes with Dream.

“George, what’s wrong?” he said, and George tried to act unbothered, maybe if he acted fine Dream would go away and he wouldn’t have the embarrassment of Dream seeing him cry. “Oh, Y’know.. Tired...” he said, cringing at the delivery. It really was a stupid excuse the third time.

Dream laughed lightly, sitting on the floor next to the brunette, leaning against the wall after he closed the door. “You know you can’t lie to me, dummy.” he said, reaching out his hand and placing it on George’s knee.

George rolled his eyes and looked away, feeling more tears build up. ‘Why do you use my feelings for content?’ ‘Do you really love me?’ ‘Do I mean the world to you like you do to me?’ George’s thoughts screamed at him, building up like a storm, which was silenced by Dream’s voice.

“Was it something I did?” he asked in a whisper, tilting his head to try and get George to look at him. George hated the way Dream’s touch made him feel. He was really good at lying to himself. He hated that direct contact with the blonde would cause his mind to scream at him.

George turned to face him, only to be met with those green eyes that had stars in them. George thought there were no eyes more beautiful than Dream’s. He took a shaky breath, as Dream searched for any signs of how George was feeling in his expression.

“I can’t... with you.” he said, softer than he wanted to. “What?” Dream responded, his smile fading away as a frown took its place. George wanted to scream because he was just so beautiful. “What do you mean?” he pressed.

George heard the sadness in his tone. “I just feel, I dunno.. used?” George admitted, throwing his hands up and looking away from Dream. “I don’t know I’m just being dumb.” he finished the thought. Dream was silent. The two sat on the bathroom floor, the only sound being the water drops from the sink plummet into the drain. The room’s atmosphere felt impossibly heavy.

Dream reached out and rested his hand on George’s face, turning him to look at him. “You feel used?” Dream said after a long silence, staring into the chocolate eyes across from him. George could hear the heartbreak in his voice, and he hated himself for it. Why did he have to phrase it like that?

“Well, okay, not like, all the time just...” he started, as Dream brought his hand down and hugged his knees. “It’s the stream stuff, isn’t it.” Dream responded, and the room fell silent again. “Yeah.” George said, hating how sad he sounded. “Like, the pandering... Stuff.” George added, closing his eyes to avoid eye contact with Dream.

“Pandering?” George cringed hearing the word back. “I dunno..” he said, looking at his feet.

George heard the soft thud as Dream laid his head back on the wall, and the two sat in silence once again. “You seriously think all that shit is pandering?” Dream said, breaking the silence that felt eternal. George couldn’t bear to look at him.

“...Yeah.” he said in barely a whisper, leaning his head back on the wall to match Dream. The blonde scoffed and looked away, biting the inside of his cheek. Another silence. “The Christmas stream?” Dream asked in a whisper, and George could almost hear the tears filling his eyes, and the sob building up in Dream’s throat.

“Seriously?” he pushed, turning to face George and shifting his legs to the crisscross position. "I don’t know, okay?” George said, louder than he anticipated, and matched Dream’s positioning.

“No, you seriously think this-” he used his hands to gesture to himself, before pulling them away to gesture to George. “Is pandering?” he finished, and George felt ridiculous. Looking at it from an outside perspective, the two were sitting crisscrossed with their knees touching.

“Well I didn’t think-” he started, but was cut off by Dream’s lips touching his, and George lost all train of thought, all he saw were stars. George moved his hand to cup Dream’s face as he deepened the kiss, but not to make it overwhelming. The kiss screamed I love you, I always have.

George pulled his hand away from Dream’s face as Dream pulled away, and George met his green gaze. “Oh.” George said, and Dream just laughed, “Yeah,” he started, a soft smile on his lips. “Oh.” he finished, before grabbing the brunette's hand, interlocking their fingers. “I love you, idiot.” he said, and leaned his forehead to touch the others. George smiled. “I love you too.” he said, and went to kiss Dream again.

“Are you guys done fucking in there?” A voice boomed from behind the door, causing the two to jump slightly, interrupting the two’s second kiss. Dream laughed, pulling away from George, and the brunette’s face flushed to every shade of pink.

“Let’s get out of this gross ass bathroom.” Dream said with a laugh, and stood up, reaching his hand out to help George get up off the floor. George took it, and smiled as Dream interlocked their fingers again.

George opened the door to an irritated Sapnap. “We weren’t even fucking.” he said, and laughed, the shorter boy rolled his eyes. “Yeah, okay, whatever.” He scoffed, before walking back to the couch he was originally sitting on.

“George! Someone go get George-” Bad shouted from the kitchen, and George turned to face Dream, who still had a stupid smile pasted onto his lips. “Looks like you’re needed.” he said, gesturing to the kitchen.

George began walking to the kitchen with Dream following him like a puppy. Dream and George were inseparable for the whole night, practically sitting on top of each other on the couch, waiting for the stream to be over.

“Dream!” Bad called out from the kitchen. George groaned, scooting over as Dream stood up, looking up at him with a pout. Dream just laughed and walked to the kitchen and Bad and Puffy had Dream eat a wing. George sat on the couch, smiling softly to himself.
