Chapter 1: 5150

Chapter Text

At first it was easy after Carina walked out that door, that it was for the better. At least that is what Maya told herself after her screams died down and the chaos slowly shifted too silence. She laid in an almost catatonic state of despair, locked in a hospital room against her will with no one to turn to. Suddenly realising how alone she was again, but at least when she was alone her thoughts were clearer. No one was shoving opinions for her health care down her throat. No one was barking orders at her.

She knew this time was different though, that no one was coming.

The team hadn’t been the same since she had become Captain, then her demotion happened and still the bridge was broken and the trust wasn’t there.

Next Carina left. Sure she had screamed at her and told her to go but she never thought she actually would. She was angry, angry at her team, her family, at Carina but most of all, at herself. For losing focus of the goal. Eyes forward.

The next 72 hours were long and quiet. Carina never returned, and although Andy came Maya couldn't even bring herself to look at her, let alone speak. They had sat in silence majority of the time, Maya never spoke and Andy spoke very few words. She had stayed for a few hours then left, Maya knew she would because no one ever stayed. The nurses and doctors came and went, trying to talk to her but she ignored them and stayed laying, only moving to eat the food given so they didn’t have a reason to keep her longer.

As soon as she fooled the psychiatrist that stopped by and her signature was signed on the release form she was gone, despite the voice of Teddy behind her begging her to talk to her or seek help. She had had a lot of time to think about things over the last few days and with the realisation that the team didn't need her, she decided she didn't need them either. No matter how bad that crack in her heart felt over her decision.

She grabbed her phone and keys from the nurses desk and headed out the door, dressed in the clothes Andy had left for her on her first visit. She headed straight for her jeep and climbed in, but the minute she was seated her resolve faltered and tears formed in her eyes.

Eyes forward, Bishop.

She heard her dads voice in the back of her head and immediately took a deep breath, starting her car and beginning to drive. She wasn’t sure where she was headed yet, but she knew it wasn’t home. She knew where she needed to go.
