Work Text:

It was a Saturday afternoon and Both girls were lounging on their shared dorm with Wednesday finishing up her call through a crystal ball.

“Alright, cara mia. Let’s let Wednesday rest, we have been talking with her for almost half an hour already.”

“Good bye, my raven.”

“Adios, madre y padre.” Goodbye, mother and father.

“Wednesday, I just realized that you know a lot of languages like you also speak Spanish, French, Italian… Heck! Even German and Latin, I think. Are there any other languages you know about?”

“Maybe there is… Maybe there is none, you’ll never know, mi amor.”

Enid huffed and thought of something. “I will learn a language I am pretty sure you do not know yet.”

Wednesday only gave her a smirk. Oh, she is feeling confident. “Alright, mi sol. Throw whatever knife you have up on your sleeve.”

“I will. Just you wait for maybe a week or two, let’s say.”

And what language Enid chose to learn?

Tagalog, ladies, and gentlemen.

Enid chose the said language as she was active in her Twitter stan account therefore, she always gets close to some Filipino K-pop stan like her. And due to that, some Twitter AUs come across her homepage on Twitter that she takes interest due to its plot but then gets disappointed as the language somehow transitions from English to Tagalog at some point.

She got tired of translating it on Google :P

Hence, here she is deciding to learn Tagalog.

--

A week and a half go by, along with a lot of books about Tagalog, two applications on her phone, and dozens of tabs opened in her browser for her to learn better. She finally can speak and understand Tagalog better, even with some mistakes here and there — But hey! She’s still learning ya know.

She even had help from her Twitter moots for this matter, she was ready!

Confidently, she went back to their shared dorm after hanging out with Yoko and forcing her friend to quiz her with Tagalog words, to which she perfected by the way. She opened the door to their dorm, knowing that Wednesday has finished her writing time and was probably lounging on her bed reading a book.

Wednesday looked up after hearing the door close, seeing Enid practically excited. If her girlfriend has a tail, it would probably be wagging fast right now. Cute, Wednesday thought.

Enid calmed herself and went to her closet to change her uniform. After doing so, she made way to Wednesday’s side of the room, showing her eye-blinding smile.

“Howdy, babycakes!”

Wednesday raised her eyebrow after hearing Enid’s chosen nickname for her tonight. Choosing to not mind, she indulges Enid’s practically buzzing from excitement behavior.

“Hello to you too, my love. Basing from your excited features you have learned your chosen language?” Beckoning Enid to sit next to her in bed.

“Yes! O-M-G, I am a hundred percent you probably don’t speak of this language yet.” Enid said after making herself comfortable next to Wednesday.

“Okay, lets see then” Wednesday sat up properly, waiting for Enid to talk.

“Hmm, maybe a little later. I want to catch you off-guard”

Enid, trying to stop her giggle to come out, chose to pull out her phone pretending to be busy, waiting for the moment. Wednesday, on the other hand, shrugged and picked up her book once again. If her girl wants to talk later, she'll talk later.

A few minutes later of silence on their dorm room, Enid asked something that maybe caught Wednesday off-guard.

“Anong libro iyan, mahal ko?” What book is that, my love? Enid asked with an innocent looking face and still a hint of American accent, although she worked with making it Filipino accent as she can.

Judging from Wednesday’s a little shocked face, Enid thought that this was it, that she managed to outdo her girlfriend. Enid looked victorious at the thought.

But no. Wednesday was just shocked as out of all the languages out there, her beloved chose Tagalog. A language she herself finds pleasing to hear if said right.

It sounded a thousand times sweeter after hearing those words come out of Enid’s mouth, Wednesday thought

Snapping out of her thought, she answered Enid, “Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James? Why?” Feigning an innocent look as well.

If this was cartoons, Enid’s eyes might have fell out of its sockets while her jaw is on the ground like those on television. The girl was shocked. She suddenly sat up straight, wide eyed.

“You understand me? You know Tagalog? Wha-…”

“Of course, I do, aking binibini. It is fairly close to Spanish, after all.” Of course, I do, my lady. It is fairly close to Spanish, after all.

Enid blushed hard; she understood the nickname used for her. After all, in one of her tabs she did search all about terms of endearment in Tagalog.

“I’m quizzing you; I can’t believe this!” Enid narrowed her eyes at Wednesday.

“Go on, mahal.” Go on, love. Wednesday challenged, once again sitting up properly as she waited for Enid to throw whatever phrases at her.

“Paalam”

“Good bye”

“Pumatay”

“Kill. This is too easy, Enid.” She smirked.

“Ikaw ay aking mundo.” You are my world. Enid meant this one, she was trying to be cute and romantic even though the accent was kind of messing her up.

“You are my world, too.” Wednesday leaned herself towards Enid, kissing her cheeks which was reddened.

“Alright, you win! I just learned the language because of those AUs on Twitter.” Pouting at her girlfriend, she just scooted closer to Wednesday now opting to just snuggle with her girl.

Wednesday lets out a short chuckle as she tucked Enid in with her, kissing the top of her head.

“Of course, you did. Don’t worry your effort is deeply appreciated. I loved how you spoke Tagalog.”

“Really?” Shining blue eyes looking up to Wednesday’s dark brown eyes.

“Really.” Giving a quick peck on Enid’s lips. She made both of them comfortable in bed before turning off her lamp.

“Tulog na tayo, aking sinta.” Let’s sleep, my love.

“Wednesday!” Enid groaned. Obviously in the state of getting kilig.

She chuckled. It seems Wednesday speaking in Tagalog has a full effect on Enid. Just as Enid speaking that said language to her.

Notes:

Btw, Kilig means giddy, I think. Like when you feel butterflies in your stomach after something romantic stuff.
