Stasis

Summary:

After being placed in stasis by the mysterious being known as The G-Man, Gordon finds himself in a strange, dream-like simulation. As a result, he must learn how to navigate said simulation while encountering others who've experienced the same fate as him by the hands of their captor. Only time will tell just how zany things are going to get from here.

Notes:

a/n: heyyy, so this is my first time submitting anything on this site. i came up with this idea while talking to my dad about gmod and half life, joking about how gman actually put gordon in the game while he was in stasis between hl1 and 2, so yeah lol. i know this first chapter's kinda short, but i felt like it was a good place to end things in order to create suspense for the upcoming chapters. i don't know how often i'm gonna update, but hopefully it'll be somewhat frequently! we'll just have to wait and see... enjoy! :D

Chapter 1: Stepping In

Chapter Text

Somehow, a mysterious looking man(?) speaking to him in cryptic terms wasn’t the weirdest thing that had happened to Gordon in the past few days. He looked up and down at the being standing before him, taking him all in. He wore a dark blue suit and purple tie and had neatly combed dark hair. His eyes were a pretty turquoise and glowed ever so slightly, adding to his mystique. Gordon gazed into his eyes and wondered if this mysterious figure truly was an alien, or maybe just a highly unusual superhuman. It wasn’t until he asked him to choose between stepping through a strange portal or being offered a “battle he had no chance of winning” according to the stranger did he snap out of his daydreaming state.

“Time to choose…” the man said, carefully observing Gordon’s movements. He couldn’t help but notice just how fragile yet fearsome he looked in that moment. His hair looked tousled, and his face had suffered multiple cuts that were bleeding. He didn’t know how, but his glasses had managed to survive the whole ordeal. This remarkable human being had just gone through the most arduous event of his life, and was able to pull through by the skin of his teeth. Needless to say, it was all quite impressive.

Although the morphine that his HEV suit provided did help subdue all of his physical pain, it had no effect on just how utterly exhausted Gordon felt. He was huffing deeply, feeling ready to collapse at any second now. Everything that had happened to him, all of the gunfights and altercations he’d gotten into with the aliens and HECU, had driven him to his limit. Ultimately it was the fight with the Nihilanth that felt like the final nail in the coffin for him. He’d do just about anything to lay down even for just a few minutes. He assumed that the stranger could see how worn out he truly was, so his decision probably wouldn’t come as a surprise to him. Gordon trudged towards the glowing portal, desperate to be anywhere else but here in this tram that seemed to be traveling at the speed of light through space and time. Somewhere where he could finally rest.

The stranger smirked.

“Wisely done, Mr. Freeman. I will see you up ahead.”
