Work Text:
Since childhood, Remus has hated astronomy. He did a great job with accurate transfiguration and exciting DADA, but getting the stars on the map was too much for him.
He hated the beauty of the starry sky with all his heart. When the boys in love promised to get the moon to their beloved, Remus hoped that the celestial body would someday disappear from the starry firmament forever. After all, the full moon did not bode well.
The moon turned him into a monster. Every month, breaking all the bones and turning inside out, made him grow hair and tear his flesh. For a split second, he forgot his animal nature, but his ugly scars reminded him. There was not a single space left on his body, and even his face, at one time the only «normal» thing left in him, was reminiscent of his little furry problem.
***
The next full moon fell on a warm March night. A great time for romantic meetings and unfulfilled promises. The Gryffindor common room was noisy like a swarm of bees. Here and there something exploded and scattered with a pleasant hiss, the younger students laughed while playing Gobstones, and the older ones repeated new knowledge and periodically incited children into conflicts.
In this celebration of life, there was no place for Remus Lupin to sit alone in the dorm. There were a couple of nights left before the full moon, and his senses had already begun to escalate, all the smells and sounds seemed to be twisted by x2. There was a little more than an hour left before lights out, but none of the marauders were in the Gryffindor tower. Remus knew that James was on duty and probably for the hundredth time trying to stick to Lily Evans; that Peter is back on a date with his Hufflepuff and unlikely to return. And Sirius could again be clamped down with another Hogwarts girl who had reached fifteen years of age.
The werewolf's absence was beneficial, because the ever-excited Black with a hypersensitive werewolf in the same room and without witnesses was not necessary, for quite obvious reasons.
For the past two years, Remus has been in love with Sirius Black, Casanova, and the mischievous entire Gryffindor tower. During the full moon period, Remus would flare up on this basis, and this also led to awkward situations, from a simple drunken kiss to a joint handjob in an abandoned broom closet. These incidents they preferred to ignore, and even when Remus tried to explain himself, Sirius laughed it off and drifted off topic. Remus was well aware of what such behavior meant, and on special days of the month, he deliberately avoided the guy.
And today he succeeded. For three hours now, just hiding in a place so obvious that even Sirius wouldn't have guessed.
Remus sat near the half-open window on the narrow sill, he used to fit comfortably on it, but after a sharp jump in growth, he could not fit even half of himself.
A fresh breeze blew through the room, creating a slight draft, and setting the canopies of the nearby beds in motion. The book he was reading was a good distraction, but even it could not drown out the footsteps on the stairs leading to their bedroom, and already at the very beginning of the ascent, he knew who was rising.
Sirius, in person, was very purposefully heading toward their common dorm. Remus had hoped that he would just take something and leave on his most important business, but fate had other plans for him today.
The door to the room swung open and slammed against the opposite wall, startling the hypersensitive Remus. Sirius, meanwhile, closed the door behind him without embarrassment, and, stretching, looked around the room, noticing another person.
“Mo-o-o-ny.” Sirius groaned, drawling and almost in a sing-song voice.
“What do you want, Padfoot?” Remus slammed the book shut in annoyance. From the animagus, it smelled slightly of alcohol, but almost imperceptibly. “Were you drinking again?”
“Well, how else can I muster up the courage, eh, Mr. Moony?”
“Stop fooling around. Why do you need courage?”
“Moony, are you my old friend? Old friend. And are you my bro? You are my bro, but Moony, please, tell me that I'm just crazy and it will pass, otherwise, I can’t.” Sirius approached Remus and talked to himself, the young werewolf did not understand what all this stuff, but knowing Black, it won't end well.
“What's wrong, Padfoot?”
“Remus, I have a question for you.”
“Ask.”
“I, hypothetically, have a friend who has been in love with his hypothetical friend since the fourth year and they even had a hypothetical fuck, but this hypothetical friend does not see all the hints and attempts of my hypothetical friend. What is he supposed to do?”
“Sirius… You need to oversleep not hypothetically at all.”
“No, answer! Remus, please, it doesn't cost you anything.”
“Okay, okay, hypothetically, he should have confessed openly and then everything would have been resolved.”
Some important calculations of information were going on in Sirius' head, his brow wrinkle appeared, then smoothed out again, and after a minute, he tossed his head, having come to some kind of decision.
“Remus.”
“What, Sirius?”
“Remus, I think I love you.”
The werewolf, who had been gathering his belongings from the windowsill that Padfoot had climbed off during the brainstorm, froze.
“Sirius, this is not funny.”
“I'm not joking, Moony, I love you. » These words sounded more confident. «And I would like to know if this is mutual.”
“Sirius, I hope this isn't your next prank…”
“Moony…” All the gaiety from the guy's voice disappeared and his eyes became quite serious. “I'm not joking with this.”
“Yes, the guy your hypothetical friend is in love with is also, not at all hypothetically, in love with him back.”
Black's face instantly brightened and his eyes sparkled with joy again. Without calculating his reaction and acting like a hyperactive dog, he ran to Remus in two jumps and, clasping his face in his hands, kissed him. At first, the kiss was awkward and more like a pecking bird, but over time, when Remus had already realized what was happening and seized the initiative, the kiss turned into a fight. The fight between the quiet and the loud, the dim and the bright, Remus and Sirius.
Sirius' legs were already beginning to buckle from lack of air and he was about to pull away, but Remus grabbed him under his hips and lifted him off the ground, forcing him to wrap his legs around him. But I still had to break the kiss, because it was worth at least breathing in.
“Re-emus, where did you hide that?!” Sirius croaked in an attempt to catch his breath, who during the kiss was transplanted to the windowsill for convenience.
“No, you just didn't notice.”
“And I'm glad I finally noticed.” A bright smile lit up their faces and they again merged into a kiss, but much more tender and quivering ...
After a while, two out-of-breath guys lay on the bed, an incredibly pleased and tired Sirius and Remus, stunned by his luck. They lay, covered with only one miserable blanket to the waist. The room sparkled with the remaining magic and incredibly pleased magicians, it was more relaxing than alarming.
Remus finally realized that he had found that very, very happy memory that could both please him on a full moon and help him summon a Patronus. And Sirius will be a great reminder to him that even in the most miserable days, something can happen that will surpass all bad memories and create new ones - good ones.
In the meantime, they are young, happy, and ...
“What's going on here?” James stood at the bedroom door and looked in shock at what was happening, and in particular at Sirius, who was suddenly agitated.
“Prongs, wait a minute and I'll explain everything to you.”
Sirius jumped up, dressing in a hurry. James tactfully waited for him in the common room. The best friends went for a walk around the castle, during which, Sirius explained what James had witnessed, and James at that moment realized that his friends were finally happy
Since childhood, Remus has hated astronomy, but Sirius was able to become his favorite star.
