Summary:

Wednesday Addams was in a slump. Her nightly writing hours were filled with nothingness and inspiration felt gone. Through the advise of her one appendage family member, Wednesday decides to take her chances on writing fanfiction until her creativity is invigorated once more. But she gets more than she asks for when she begins communicating with a somewhat anonymous commenter.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Wednesday Addams has already thought herself to be somewhat an author from her various poems depicting life and death like Edgar Allan Poe before her or her Viper de la Muerte book she was in the process of completing on her typewriter as the click-clack and ding of the machine resounded in her room once more. Closing her eyes in exasperation, a minute show of emotions only found in the comfort of her room Wednesday internally lamented her lack of creativity as she ripped the paper from the typewriter once more and threw the script on the ground to join its other brothers and sisters that lay sadly on the ground.

Thing, her ever companion skittered across the desk as he signed his concern to her, “writing trouble?”

“Viper’s following actions regarding her enemy eludes me Thing.”

Thing taps out his reply, tilting himself slightly to the right in question.

“You are correct, usually I would simply have Viper destroy her enemies by murdering them in a brutal and concise manner but the plot demands I take another approach.”

“What do you mean by a different approach?”

“That is the inconvenience which plagues my mind. The answer troubles me Thing, I do not like it and unfortunately, my use of lobotomies does not seem to trigger any solution to this dilemma either.”

“Why don’t you take a break then?”

“A break? How foolish of you Thing. Surely, you of all beings would know that my day is scheduled to have rest time between 3 to 4pm. As such, the need for a break is neither a good response nor something to be even considered.”

If an amputated hand could roll its eyes, then Thing would have done exactly so. Nonetheless he clarified to the young half-dead like girl before him that he had not meant that in his reply.

“Then for what reason would you say such a thing. Do not waste my time, the hour ticks evermore as you continue your vague conjectures.”

“Why don’t you try to write something else during your free time. Maybe something more casual until you can get back into Viper’s storyline.”

Wednesday stayed silent for a few moments before she glanced once more at the disembodied hand, “your idea intrigues me Thing, you have my attention.”

“There is a community of people who write stories which they post online for other people to read, some are original but most tend to be interpretations of movies, films, books etc,” the hand explained.

“Thing, I detest the idea of digital media not even considering the fact that we do not use such devices in our household and would otherwise be unable to acquire said device at this hour.”

Out of nowhere Thing whips out a laptop, black of course with a matte finish, immediately jumping up to show the young Addams how to use it.

“So this is how you come up with your ridiculous stunts on a weekly basis. I must say I am disappointed Thing, I had thought you were more inventive than to stoop so low as to use such devices. Clearly, I've given you too much credit than you deserve.”

Thing signs furiously in indignation but continues to use the touchpad to click onto firefox before keying in the website.

“Archive of Our Own? A straightforward if somewhat jovial name to use. I would have preferred something along the lines of The Library or better yet The Catacombs but I shall elect to ignore it for now. This better be worth my while Thing.”

Logging into his profile, Wednesday raised her eyebrow unimpressed with his username ‘FirstHandExperince’ which she considered to be lowbrow wit.

“Thing, what is Twilight?” Wednesday asked in vague disgust as she saw his reading history.

So began a night of dreadful terror for the young Addams as she was subjected to an evening of mental torture at the hands of her own helping hand as he played movie after movie of a constipated vampire trying to bed a 17 year old teenager whilst in competition with what could be described as a sad excuse of a werewolf.

After the atrocity had passed, so offended was she that Wednesday was compelled to rewrite the film's wrongs. The next evening during her writing hour, the Addams girl began extrapolating the film's main female character, by first disassembling the somewhat useless teenager and reimagining with someone who had dignity and some brains. This resulted in the obvious hesitance of the teen to avoid the mentally impaired vampire and his glossy family and to actually have the native werewolf pack be less of a destruction to the native community’s image and more grounded within reality.

Reading her story once more, editing scenes that didn’t quite satisfy her, Wednesday nodded her head allowing Thing to upload the first chapter of the fanfiction of the accursed site. Within a day the comments began to trickle in and kudos increased, Wednesday was somewhat pleased that most were receptive to her change in character of Isabella as for the rest well, Wednesday simply asked Thing to block such insipid comments that prove to be nothing more than words of small-minded humans with nothing better to do with their lives.

Most comments were short but flattering:

vampieire: Love the story <3 can’t wait to read more.

Readbeat: Good writing looking forward to the next chapter.

cutiecakes: Omg omg yeeees, great story.

Others were more in depth and useful:

DrifterDrinks: Definitely an OOC of Bella but I like it. I can see that OP really wants
Bella to make her own decisions without just thinking about how hot
the creepy pale dude is and to actually think about his weirdass actions. I think it would be great to see how Bella interacts with the other Cullens when she is outside Edward’s control.

Moorsi_9: Such a breath of fresh air to have Bella actually have autonomy of her
own life. Love the writing even if it’s a bit gloomy it sort of brings a bit
more urgency to the situation.

However, there was one comment in particular that had caught her attention.

PinkWolf17: I’m a big twilight fan and even though I’m on team Jacob I was never
comfortable with how the author basically fetishized the native and
werewolf communities with her book. Although, I think the interpretation that werewolves are vicious creatures of the night is a little stereotypical and could also cast a bad light on outcasts as a whole because vampires and werewolves are definitely not like Edward or Jacob but they’re also not as ruthless as interpreted here.

Wednesday suspected with how much the commenter had touted the view of outcasts that they themselves might be one as well. After all, it wasn’t such a stretch of the imaging when the username literally posited the fact that the commenter was not only a Werewolf but also liked the colour pink and something to do with the number 17.

Normally, Wednesday felt it would be beneath her to reply to the riff raff that resided on the interwebs but something urged her to reply to the somewhat anonymous commenter of her story.

Reply to PinkWolf17

FirstHandExperience: Your comment is duly noted. Although I must state
that outcasts of all kinds would be more physically able than normies when it comes to a one on one fight. I, however, did not intend to write something offensive towards any outcasts and shall take stock as I proceed further with this story.

The young Addams had thought that would be the end of that interaction but she had been mildly surprised when the next day a reply from the PinkWolf17 had made it into her (read:Thing) inbox.

PinkWolf17: Omg hi, thanks for the reply. I really appreciate you
taking into consideration the outcasts point of view. I think a lot of media misinterprets or outright ignores outcasts in favour of using stereotypes to make money. It’s nice to know that not everyone on the internet is like that. <3<3<3<3:D

The singular appendage Addams turned itself towards Wednesday in question wondering what the girl would do. Similarly, Wednesday was somewhat unsure as to the strange occurrence bubbling in her intestines. Like black moths that were wrongly ingested in her system, they did not produce the disgusting feelings that made her sickly but instead it fluttered ominously within her.

When Wednesday placed her hands upon the keyboard to reply, Thing scuttled around to show excitement that his young charge was making a friend albeit a virtual one that she would likely never meet but interaction was interaction and he would take whatever he could get.

Just as Wednesday was about to compose her reply, the high pitched creak of her door alerted her to an intruder. Taking a knife nearby she launched the sharp object towards the door only for it to miss (?) its intended target.

“Pubert, what are you doing here?” she asked, turning in her chair to stare as the moustache toddler.

“Tell me a bedtime story,” Pubert said with a sweet smile contrasting his demand.

Stonefaced Wednesday gazed down and roamed her youngest brother’s small pyjama clad form, “surely you know not to disturb me during my writing time Pubert. Your understanding of simple sentences and vocabulary should be enough for you to read your own stories for bedtime or if you so wish for company I am sure Mother and Father would be more than happy to accompany you this evening.”

“I don’t want to read those stories, I want to hear one of yours” the little boy stated with a pout.

“Put that away little brother, such facial expressions are unbecoming of an Addams” Wednesday replied, already getting out of her seat.

“I shall accede to your request this one time but do not make it a habit or you shall find yourself with your feet in concrete at the bottom of the lake.”

Together the two Addams siblings walked out of her room and towards Pubert’s room located down the hall.Thing stayed in front of the laptop and stared into its bright depths as he began forming a reply. It would not be until the next day when Wednesday had opened the inbox that she would have realised Thing’s interference and even if the hand found himself on the wrong side of dagger he would not regret it.

FirstHandExperience: Yes, I agree with your sentiment. You can DM me on
discord (username is the same) and maybe we can discuss how to better approach the vampire and werewolf storyline so that it doesn’t misrepresent outcasts.
