Chapter Text
"Rose, pass me that wrapping paper will you?" Slade didn't bother to look at his daughter. "Yeah when you take your eyes off that.. what is that?" Rose questioned looking at the half wrapped gift. "Its something for that underaged, barley legal kid dads fucking with. Don't tell me he's gonna be our stepfather!" Joey complained. "First of all, we aren't getting that far.." Slade grumbled. "Ha, thats what you say now. You're wrapping gifts for the kid, soon enough you'll be putting a ring on it." Joey laughed.
"And SECOND of all, Jason is not a minor nor is he barley legal. He just has a baby face." He wouldn't lie, Jason did look young. People did occasionally give them side eyes whenever they were out in public. Slade didn't mind it though, because he knew Jason wasn't that young. "Look can you two stop bickering over his age and pass me the damn wrapping paper!" Slade demanded.
"Calm down and say please!" Rose teased. Slade thinks to himself why becoming a dad such a good idea. Totally not sarcastic. "If I have to ask you to pass me the paper one more time Rose.." Slade hissed. "Alright calm down and heres your stupid paper!" Rose stuck her tongue out at him as she slid the paper over. "So what're you wrapping!" Joey peaked. "A gift.." "Wowwww, I would've never guessed it!" Joey awes sarcastically.
"Its just a ... just earrings now go away!" Slade shooed. In reality, it was an expensive ring. He doesn't know how Jason will react to this, hopefully in a positive way. Whens the last time he treated him to something nice. "You bought him dinner!" Joey called out. That fucking mind reader. Slade was positive that he didn't have the ability to read minds. Or did he? Slade never kept up with his kids. Or atleast he tried to. Did that count?
"Honestly, if I was dating a guy and his excuse to buying me a lame gift was, 'I bought you dinner.' Dropped no questions asked." Rose chimed in. Slade was worrying now. Was Jason going to leave him if this gift wasn't enough? C'mon now, it costed him over thirty grand. This had to be enough. "Alright thanks for the advice Rose... very much needed," Slade sighed. "Glad I could help dad!" Rose winked as she left the room. Now it was just him and the expensive ring.
Slade pulled out his phone and dialed Jasons number. "Hello?" Jason sounded as if he just woken up from a nap. "Did you sleep good kid?" Slade smiled. "Oh baby it's you. How was your day!" the drastic change in Jasons tone, made Slade feel some type of way. His heart melted at the sound. "Yes dear, it's me" Slades voice soften. "So, can I come over.. I have a gift for you." Slade smirked. "U..uh sure give me some time to clean! Everything should be in order by the time you come!" Slade held back a laugh as he listened to Jason stumble over stuff. "Alright kid, i'll be there soon." Slade hung up the phone, grabbed his car keys. Hopefully Jason likes his gift.
