Chapter Text
The Beginning
Everyone knew Travis Hackett was on his way to being the new sheriff of North Kill, he was you, smart, and very determined. Everyone knew it. That was before thought. Before North Kill itself was changed. It had been any normal day, just a simple domestic call that Travis and his younger brother Chris responded to. A husband and wife spat, common enough in a small town where drinking was the biggest past time. This time had been different though. After that day everyone understood why Travis had quit the force and finished his college degree in teaching. Everyone without the last name Hackett that is. So as soon as Travis could he moved the over forty minutes away to work at the University of Albany. He wished he could have moved further but nothing else was available at the time. So that’s how he became a teacher in the communication department teaching juniors and seniors Presentation and Argumentation of Debate.
He had been teaching for over 20 years now and was quite content in his lot in life. He had a nice, if not small house near campus so he could walk to work every day. He was able to see his niece just about every day as well; and although he never married or had kids of his own, he was happy in his own quiet way. At least that’s what he told himself. His days were pretty much the same and he was ok with it. He was! So of course, at 56 years old that’s when some force in the universe wanted to turn his world upside down. Apparently, the state champ’s girl’s volleyball team’s coach used their newly won title to negotiate a better deal with a competing school and had left them right before the training season had started.
He still didn’t understand what possessed the school board and other faculty to nominate him as the new coach. He wasn’t exactly a ‘team player’ growing up and had been even more of a loner in his adult life. But he had been asked (see forced) to coach as no one else had any experience with the more physical aspects of the sport. But seriously, What the hell did he know about coaching women’s volleyball?
Fuck…
Go Danes….
