Chapter Text

Animatronic Hunters.

The concept made sense, well enough. No blood to drink or flesh to tear. Not that they couldn’t get damaged, but they were still more durable and resilient than the human body.

After Fazbear Entertainment went out of business, the owners sold the animatronic’s to anyone who wanted them. Sun and Moon were just grateful that the same monster hunter agency took them in, as they did with their older brother Eclipse.

Eclipse had been with them for years now, being sold long before the company went under. He was older looking, withered from the world and as cranky as an old man. HE only really acted like his old self in front of his brother’s who he missed dearly.

Sun and Moon had been with the agency for three years now, finally getting out of their rookie status. The two worked well together. Having shared a body before, they could still hear each other’s thoughts at times, their actions in sync. Even their jester programing helped, giving them the dexterity to dodge and throw knives. The agency had never seen a better team.

Of course, other than their little flaws of not being able to always find the parts they need to repair themselves. They had access to a lot, but when Fazbear entertainment makes you, messes with the models, then burns down taking your blueprints with them…you use what you’ve got. Which is not always great.

That’s why when they heard of a town said to have a werewolf infestation, they knew they were the ones for the job. They heard that there were more werewolves than anything, but there was rumored to be other monsters as well. They had to be wary, but also with them being Animatronic’s, it makes monsters less cautious of them. They assumed it was because they were just not human too.

Didn’t mater to them, it just made the job easier.

They’ve never met a monster that proved to be too good to not get rid of, so they’ve never questioned it. Especially since the agency and their big brother Eclipse had taught them that all monsters are just built to be evil and have no soul. Made sense in their minds. Why wouldn’t it?

They packed up what they thought they would need, trying to look like casual hikers, just hiking from town to town for fun. That story usually fooled people. Animatronic’s were accepted but not well known, so sometimes people would say offensive things to them, not even knowing what they said hurt.

They hiked into the secluded little town and looked around. Most monsters could pass off being human, one way or another. Vampires often wore hoods on sunny days, Werewolves usually did stupid things to give themselves away, like drink out of a puddle. Even knowing all this, they couldn’t kill them without proof. Usually until after the damage was done, which never felt right with the boys.

Especially Moon.

He’d always had something in system that made him act out violently. It was all he ever knew, yet he always felt punished for it. Until he started hunting. Then he was praised for being creepier than most monsters and just as ruthless.

They decided to start in a dinner, knowing that’s where people would chat and could easily be eavesdropped on. They needed to find clues on where to start. Would be easier than waiting for the full moon and getting ambushed. Knowing how these things usually went though, that was probably going to be the case anyways.

Still, they sat at the counter at a good center point of the dinner, just listening.

The waitress seemed shocked to see Animatronic’s in her place, but she greeted them and asked if they wanted to order anything.

“Oh no thank you, we’re just resting!” Sunny pipped happily. “We’re just passing through, we like to travel.”

“Oh? Where you from?” She asked with interest.

“We came from up North.” He said, being vague on purpose. “Any recommendations on where to head next?”

“Oh not really…Just don’t go directly east from here.” She said, making Moon’s red optic shimmer with discovery.

“Why’s that?” He asked, turning on the stool and putting his arm on the bar.

“Oh, just wild and animals favor that area is all.” She said casually.

Sounded like a werewolf hunting ground to Sun and Moon.

“Thank you Ma’am!” Sun chipped.

Information achieved without having to admit to be looking for trouble. Sunny inwardly pat himself on the back for being clever.

The waitress, still trying to be a good hostess, spoke again. “Do you guys like, charge or anything? I have some phone chargers…” she said, seeming to realize how awkward that sound as she said it.

Sun giggled at the attempt. “Thank you, but we have our own charging cords. We could however just use an outlet if that’s alright.” He asked. “We don’t take long to charge.”

“Help yourself, just don’t unplug the juke.” She said, motioning to the jukebox at the end of the dinner.

They nodded and sat near one of the outlets next to the window, plugging themselves in and sitting at the table, trying not to draw attention for now.

You were walking past the window when you saw the two animatronic’s sitting at the dinner table. You’ve never seen animatronic’s before and got a little excited at the sight, staring them down while they seemed distracted. Then, like an idiot, you accidentally hit your head on the glass from focusing on them too hard, causing both to look at you.

The three of you stared at each other, your face turning red from looking so dumb in front of the cool high tech robots. After properly embarrassing yourself, you didn’t dare go in and make conversation, so you just rushed off. You only hoped you could catch them later. You really wanted to meet them!

Sun and moon stared at you as you ran off, leaving a forehead smudge on the window. “Bet my bell’s that was a dumb dog.” Moon said in his gravely voice.

“Probably.” Sun said with an exaggerated shrug. Although doing so, made his arm fall off at the elbow, making a clang as it hit the tile. The waitress looked over at them with concern as Sun just stared at his arm a minute with frustration.

Moon picked it up and waved at the people who stared. “It’s fine.” He just said before looking at it. “This dang bolt, so hard to find the right size…” He grumbled and helped Sun get it back on. “We’ve got to get you a new one.”

“I’ll be fine for now, we can get one after we leave.” Sun said back.

“What if it falls off mid-fight? Or hinders you?” Moon grumbled.

“Doesn’t matter now, we don’t have time between the moon rising and charging.” Sun Sighed and sat back. “Maybe I can use something here to help it stick in there. Think syrup is sticky enough?”

They charged for another hour before grabbing their things and bidding the waitress farewell. It was getting dark, a good time to hunt. Sun didn’t always do as well at night cause of his lack of night vision, but Moon always made up for it, just like how Sun helped him with his light sensitivity during the day.

They headed straight to the east side of town, knowing that the full moon would mean the wolves were out. They wanted to take care of as many possible in one night. They walked into the forest, side by side, cautiously looking around as the cool night air began to settle in under the darkening sky.

This was when the two talked to each other through their minds. They had their own channel to speak to each other in, now starting to keep themselves back-to-back. They each kept their right hands on their hips, ready to pull weapons as soon as needed.

They listened as they stepped slowly. Most werewolves were brutish and not very quiet. They could usually hear one coming from an actual mile away.

Moon glanced up, seeing the bright shining rock he was named after rise, glowing to it’s full power. “Any minute now…” He said to Sun in his head.

Sun agreed as they kept moving, stepping carefully to not cause too much noise themselves.

Then, to their shock, both of them felt a hot gust of wind on the side they faced away from. Both of them stopped moving, knowing it was probably too late. Time seemed to stop. If it wasn’t for their internal clocks, they wouldn’t have known that they stood perfectly still for five whole minutes.

“Moon?”  Sun thought. “Why hasn’t it attacked yet?”

“Don’t know. Did it run off?” Moon thought back.

The two animatronics slowly looked to the source of breathing and saw the hulking mass of fur that stared them down. AKA, You.

You didn’t expect the animatronic’s you saw to be hunters, but here they were. Their hands on the weapons on their hips, their eyes looking at you with confusion and hate. And you knew exactly how to deal with them.

You lowered your head, and to their shock and surprise, you rolled over, showing them your belly and wagged your tail happily. You even let your tongue hang out as you panted expectantly.

The two stared at you in shock, not moving. That was a good sign, you thought.

“Does…it want a belly rub…?” Sun asked out loud, never feeling more confused.

You let out a happy yip, making them both take a step back, as if they thought you were going to attack. You wiggled a little on the ground, showing how happy and ready you were for pets.

“Maybe…One of us should distract them while I look for the rest of the pack…” Moon said warily.

“I can stay here with this one.” Sun said and looked at you again. He slowly eased down, scooting to you carefully with an outstretched hand..

“SunDrop.” Moon warned.

Sun continued and gently rubbed your belly. You kicked your leg to let him see how happy it made you.

“Ah, ha…look at that Moon, they’re happy!” Sun said affectionately.

“Sun, that’s a WERE-WOLF!” Moon spat.

“But they’re not attacking us, maybe this is one of the rare nice ones!” He said happily.

Just as you thought, these two thought all monsters were bad. Ironic considering their lacking in human status. Of course humans taught them that. Time to teach them differently.

Well, if only that thought lasted.

Half of Sun’s arm suddenly fell off and clattered onto the ground.

It looked like a stick!

Before Sun could pick it up, You snatched it up and bounced off. Why does it taste like Maple syrup?

“Wha-Hey!!” Sun yelled and chased after you.

Oh boy! He’s gonna try to get it back!

You chewed it gently but happily, yipping at him as he tried to get it back. A gunshot reminded you that Moon was there and in a bad mood. You ducked behind a tree and peeked at them. Sun edged closer. “Come here, bring that back…” He said gently.

You took this opportunity to throw the arm and watch Sun go get it. ‘Time to teach them fetch!’ You thought excitedly. You watched Moon follow Sun and help him with his arm. They must have lost a part in the dirt, cause they didn’t seem to be able to attach the arm right away. You felt bad about that, but it was playtime!

You grabbed a stick off the ground and brought it to them, setting in front of them, despite them both recoiling cautiously. They looked down at the stick then back at you. You yipped and wagged your tail, hoping they would understand the game.

“We are NOT playing!” Moon yelled at you, making you stop motion and sound. You stared at him a minute before huffed and barked at him. “No! No, it is NOT playtime!” He scolded, making you bark more. “Would you be quiet?!”

You stopped and pouted. What a party pooper!

You started to walk past them, their optics focused hard on you as you passed. Just as you passed them, you turned quickly, snatched the sleepy cap off of Moon’s head, and rushed off.

Moon, not expecting that at all, felt his bald head before his Optic’s flooded with a bright red light. “Hey!! Naughty Mutt!” He screamed and chased after you.

But you knew how to disappear in these woods, they were your home. You wouldn’t let them know where you were. Not until you could speak to them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“How did we lose them?!” Sun said in exasperation.
The light behind the forest started to grow, making Moon crankier, which was a hard thing to do. “I’m going to kill that beast…” He growled, his optic’s still glowing a fearsome red. They had chase you all night. Even with their skills of hunting, they couldn’t’ track you down.
They weren’t sure what frustrated them more that night, the fact you tried to play with them, or the fact you got away with Moon’s hat. You did not take them seriously, which they swore would be a mistake on your part, yet as the sun rose, they knew they were the fools between you three.
 Just as they edged the forest, back into town, they saw you.
You stood in your human form, holding Moon’s hat in front of your privates. They stared at you a minute, no doubting putting two and two together.
You smiled at them with a slight shrug, trying not to show your embarrassment of being naked in front of them. You should be used to that by now, but these were strangers after all.
“Wanna come over for tea and a chat?” you offered.
You didn’t even wait for an answer, starting to walk away from them, just wanting to get home and get dressed quickly.
You tried to ignore hearing a quick little dumbfound conversation between the two.
“Are they Mooning u-“
“DON’T.” Moon cut Sun off.
You let your wolf tail out in an attempt to be more modest, but you knew it didn’t help much.
Moon was kind enough to let you hold onto his hat until you brought them back to your house. As soon as you were in, you set his hat on the kitchen table and rushed to your room to get dressed. “Make yourselves at home!” You called to them as you ran off.
Moon snatched up his hat and grumbled static angrily. The two stood awkwardly. They were in the house of a werewolf, and had little intention to kill the homeowner. Not a situation they found themselves in often.
Sun held his disjointed arm, feeling a little helpless after a night like that. He was sure Moon felt the same way. Not only did you make a fool out of them, but they didn’t hunt anything last night.
“Maybe we should call Clip…” Sun said sadly.
“Why? To tell him about our worst failure of the year?” Moon growled.
“Maybe for some advice? We’ve never met a nice monster before.” Sun said, holding up their shared phone.
Moon grunted in frustration. “Fine, whatever…”
Sun hit he speed dial of their brother and waited, putting it on speaker.
Eclipse picked up with an abrupt question, like always. “Are you guys okay?”
“Yes.” Sun answered quickly, but then took another look at himself. “Well…my arm fell off, but I just need a bolt.” He assured. “Other than that we’re okay.”
“And our damaged pride.” Moon hissed.
“Yeah, there’s that too…” Sun sighed.
“What happened?” Eclipse asked, sounding more annoyed than anything.
“Well…we just wanted to ask if there has ever been a nice monster before.
“No.” He answered bluntly, making Sun and Moon look at each other curiously.
“You sure Clip?” Moon asked and stepped closer.
“Positive, I’ve been doing this longer than you, and never met a monster that wasn’t a ruthless killer.” He stated proudly then paused. “Why?”
“No reason!” Sun squeaked.
“A werewolf asked for belly rubs then tried to play fetch with us!” Moon huffed agrily.
“They what??”
Before Sun and moon could answer, they both stopped to listen. They looked around, hearing a hissing from somewhere. They look at the sink, it was not running. They looked to the kettle on the stove, nothing. Then they looked on the couch nearby to see a blond vampire hunched up on it, hissing at them angrily.
“Is that a Vampire?!” Sun shrieked, dropping his arm and phone at the same time.
“Has that been there the whole time?!” Moon hissed back
“That’s it, I’m on my way!” Eclipse yelled through the speaker.
Sun dived to the phone on the floor. “No wait Eclipse! We’vereallygotitundercontrol-“ but the phone already hung up, making sun drop his face to the floor. “Dang it…” He whined.
“Great, now HE’S on the way!” Moon said angrily.
“Who now?” You asked, as you came down, now dressed.
Moon flinched and turned towards you. “No one.” He said quickly.
“Oh okay. Vanny, come meet my new friends.” You said and looked back to the Vampire on the couch.
“Some friends.” She grumbled then spat. “Hunters.”
“Oh VAMPY, be nice.” You smirked, using the nickname you knew she hated, making her glare at you. “And yes I know, that’s why I brought them home.” You said and grinned at them.  “I have to teach them how to fetch.”
