Work Text:

-Seeking:
Fake date for brother's wedding.
Men only, will come up with a backstory when we meet.
Wedding is at a resort, rooms paid. Most food and alcohol are included. You get a free vacation out of the deal.
Serious messages only.-

Ogata looks over the post, again and again, unsure if it's even worth it. He thinks about the last family gathering, shudders, and hits publish. Since his tentative reentry to the family, the older generation had repeatedly brought up his relationship status. He was sure he was only contacted because his younger half-brother, and heir to the Hanazawa name, had come out as gay and the older generation wanted to make sure someone would carry on the family line with children. Little did they know, he had no intention of having kids either. Ogata smirks, thinking about the wedding. He was sure their father had been against it but only agreed because Yuusaku's fiancé was the eldest son of his business partner. He'd met Heinojou a few times and liked him well enough, what matters is that he makes Yuusaku happy.

Ogata had gotten this genius idea from some rom-com Yuusaku had made him watch before. So, here he was, looking to find a random stranger to be stuck "dating" for a weekend. He rubs his face with both hands, groaning in frustration as a headache sets in. The ad was posted, he'll at least see what kind of people respond.

The next morning Ogata starts sorting through emails, immediately deleting any from women, wanting to disappoint his old man for the fun of it, plus they obviously hadn't read the whole ad. He grumbles to himself about people only seeing his photo and "free vacation" as he starts on the remaining emails. He deletes any without pictures, deciding if he's going to fake date someone, he'll want to know they are at least nice to look at. He deletes a few more for the hell of it before an email address catches his eye. Figuring here was as good a place to start as any, Ogata opens the email, "ok Mr.Snowleopard_sniper, what do you have for me?" He goes straight to the picture first, messy light brown hair and the brightest blue eyes he's ever seen look back at him from the screen. Ogata can't help but stare at the man a moment before scrolling back up to his information.

The man's name is Vasily, he's in Japan on a work visa, and he's the same age as Ogata. He raises an eyebrow as he keeps reading. Vasily is an artist, Ogata snorts in amusement, he's from Russia and according to him is, "a master at conversations with older men," with a small note that Ogata's father would love him by the end of the weekend. He rolls his eyes at that but is unfortunately interested to see if he can live up to that claim.

After saving Vasily's email, Ogata looks over a few of the others, but none are as interesting, or admittedly as attractive, as Vasily. With that decided, he sends off a response to Vasily. The sooner they can get things going, the better.

By the time he sends the email it's time to leave for work, he can get a quick breakfast on the way in.

Once lunch finally rolls around, Ogata sits with his food and pulls up his email on his phone. He's pleased to see Vasily had responded already. Vasily sounds professional while also expressing a need for a small vacation, so Ogata tells him a good when and where for them to meet. Ogata deletes his ad and the rest of the emails, deciding if Vasily doesn't work out he'd rather deal with the questions over trying to find someone else.

The week before their first meeting passes, and the night before he gets an email from Vasily, confirming their meeting was still happening. Ogata smiles and responds, impressed he'd had the thought to check in. The wedding itself is still a month away, so that gives them plenty of time to get their story straight.

Ogata arrives a few minutes early at the cafe they had agreed on and through the window sees a familiar mess of brown hair. Vasily was even earlier than him. The other man is looking at his phone when Ogata enters the cafe, so he expects to surprise him, "You're early." A deep voice makes Ogata jump slightly as Vasily sets his phone down and smiles up at him, "So are you." Is all Ogata can think to say in response. Vasily stands and offers his hand, "It's good to finally meet my fake boyfriend!" His bright blue eyes twinkle as Ogata takes his hand. Vasily's grip is strong and Ogata tries to match it, catching the challenging look in his eye before his hand is practically crushed and released just quick enough to not hurt.

Vasily sits again and Ogta takes his spot across from him, "Have you been here before?" Vasily looks around as he asks and Ogata shakes his head, "I have a coffee pot at home, I don't go to cafes often." Vasily seems to consider this before nodding, "We should order, I was going to ask what you would suggest." He grins. Ogata just shrugs before standing to head for the counter. They order together, and Ogata gets a plain black coffee while Vasily, insisting on paying, orders something overly sweet with a small pastry. Once they sit again, Ogata decides he should try to learn more about his fake boyfriend. He's not sure where to start when Vasily pipes up, "Why are you taking a fake date to your brother's wedding?" The question is reasonable and doesn't require Ogata to have to give too many details, "So I won't get asked over and over when I'll settle down and start a family. I'd like a bit of a vacation after all." He shrugs and Vasily nods, "That can be bothersome."

Their drinks arrive then and Vasily makes a pleased noise as he takes a sip. Ogata's eyes linger on his hands, long fingers wrapped around his cup. Well cared for and clean nails mean he takes care of his appearance, which is a bonus if they will be stuck together for a weekend. Ogata can see a hint of paint or ink on one of his knuckles, "So, you're an artist? What sort of art do you do?" He watches Vasily over the rim of his mug as the man perks up, "I paint, sometimes I'll use charcoal for figure studies. My favorite thing to do is sketch things I see while out in public though." He trails off, looking down at his drink in thought, "I didn't bring my sketchbook, so I don't have anything to show you." Ogata chuckles, "That's fine, I don't need to see them now." He's curious, but he'll probably get a chance to see it later.

Vasily offers him half of the pastry but he shakes his head, "I don't care for sweet things." Vasily grins at that, "Well then you're going to hate me being your boyfriend." Ogata rolls his eyes but can't help a slight smile, "I'm a dentist-" Vasily visibly flinches and Ogata raises an eyebrow, "Don't like dentists?" Vasily tries, and fails, to smile politely, "Just don't come at me with one of those drills and we'll be fine. I floss every night." he adds quickly. Ogata snorts a laugh into his coffee, "I won't, I don't intend to work on my vacation." Vasily's shoulders relax and Ogata actually laughs at that.

They enjoy their drinks in silence for a moment before Ogata remembers something, "So, a master at conversations with older men? I'm not too young for you I hope?" He smirks as Vasily chokes on his drink before laughing, "No, no.. Definitely not too young. I have worked with a lot of older men and became friends with them." Ogata nods and hums in thought, "My father is a very business oriented man with an interest in the military, how would you win him over?" He was still sure it wouldn't be possible but would be funny to see. Vasily thinks a beat before spouting off one of the most boring strings of business jargon Ogata had ever heard. At his blank stare in response, Vasily does his best to explain what he meant but Ogata stops him, "Don't worry, you just might be right about winning the old man over." Vasily beams with pride.

"So, why a fake date? Why not try to actually meet someone?" Ogata looks unimpressed before looking at his coffee, "I don't have the time for that, plus it's not that important to me." Vasily tilts his head slightly but doesn't question his reason, "Why haven't you found someone then?" Vasily looks a bit embarrassed, turning his face away completely, "It's not really worth it to get into a relationship in a country I can't stay in." Ogata tilts his head, "No one waiting back in Russia?" Vasily shakes his head, "I was too focused on my art." Ogata nods in understanding. He'd been more focused on his career, and schooling before that. It had led to the end of his previous relationship, he hadn't bothered to try again after that.

The conversation dies off after that while they finish their drinks, Ogata finds Vasily's silence comfortable though, so it's not a problem. When they stand to leave Vasily laughs out of nowhere, "We never decided on our fake meeting and eventual dating story." Ogata looks at his watch, it was getting late, "I guess we'll have to get together again. There's still a month, we can figure it out." he smiles and Vasily grins in response, "I guess it's a date!"

They meet a few more times in the passing month and Ogata suggests Vasily stays at his place so they can leave for the resort together. That night they quiz each other on their likes and their decided on backstory before losing track of what they were doing, turning to stories from their lives and plans for their individual futures. Ogata already had a reasonable idea that Vasily was a romantic, but hearing him talk about wanting to travel the world with someone he loves makes him a little envious. He ignores the ache in his chest, knowing that a relationship wasn't something he should look forward to. His own future plans only involve being a dentist, maybe getting his own office one day. Vasily never makes him feel like his plans are boring though, which is something he can appreciate.

Ogata hopes that maybe they could stay in contact once the weekend was over.

Ogata shuffles off the train yawning, he shifts his bag on his shoulder and turns to see Vasily, bright-eyed, hurrying off after him. Vasily had been glued to the window the entire trip and Ogata had thought he might pass out from some of the views, Ogata was sure his hand must be cramping from how much he'd been sketching, "Will we be taking the train back?" He sounds so excited and Ogata makes a note to buy tickets for a longer return route. They would probably have to take multiple trains, but he didn't think Vasily would mind, "We are, yes. It might be different though." at Vasily's excited grin Ogata smiles.

They walk to the resort and Ogata can already see members of his family gathered in the front, he looks for Yuusaku from a distance, not ready to face their father just yet. A hand rests on his shoulder and Ogata reacts, quickly turning his head ready to tell whoever it is not to touch him, but it's Vasily getting his attention to look ahead of them. Hurrying toward them is Yuusaku, and Ogata relaxes right before being pulled into a tight hug. Yuusaku lifts him off the ground and all Ogata can manage is a yelp, "You're here! You actually came!!" Yuusaku gives him one last tight squeeze before setting Ogata down, all smiles, his face flushed, "We only just got in half an hour ago! This place is beautiful, I didn't expect father to get somewhere so nice! You should see the view of the ocean, the wedding is going to be so beautiful!!" He looks like he might start to cry and Ogata tries to think of some quick diversion to stop the waterworks, "Yuusaku, this is Vasily. The invite said plus ones were acceptable?"

As if he hadn't noticed the tall Russian man behind his brother Yuusaku looks surprised, "You didn't tell me, but of course! The more the merrier! Is he a friend, or..?" Yuusaku looks hopeful and Ogata can't blame him. The older generation weren't the only ones hoping he'd meet someone, but for Yuusaku it was different. He just wanted Ogata to be happy, and Ogata knows this, "He's my boyfriend, sorry I didn't tell you yet, I know you have been busy-!" Yuusaku grabs Ogata's hands between his, eyes bright with tears, "You could have told me! I'm never too busy to hear such wonderful news!!" He looks to Vasily now, "Vasily, right? I hope we can get to know each other soon!" Vasily smiles and places his hand back on Ogata's shoulder, "I'm sure there will be plenty of time, for now, congratulations on your wedding!" Yuusaku beams at him before looking over his shoulder, "We should join the others. I'm sorry, brother, I have to take care of some things, but we will have to catch up! I want to know how you met!" Ogata promises to tell him later, for now, they need to get their rooms situated, which involves speaking to his father.

Speaking to a man like Hanizawa Koujirou is a daunting task when you don't know him, but for Ogata, it was one of the last things he ever wanted to do, yet here he was, walking towards him with his "boyfriend" close behind. Before they get within earshot he looks nervously over his shoulder to Vasily, "Let's get this over with, maybe it'll be quick?" Vasily reaches forward and takes his hand, squeezing it reassuringly, "I'm here, it'll be alright." And that.. That shouldn't feel as nice as it does. Ogata squeezes Vasily's hand in return, they are playing a part now after all, so it's fine. The conversation seems to die down as they approach and Ogata can feel their eyes on him and the man with him. He tries to not think about it, and tells himself he's allowed to be here. He pushes down his anxiety as they enter the group, a few people greet him which he returns as politely as he can before his father's eyes are on him. He can't shake how small he feels around the man, but Vasily's presence behind him is larger, he can do this, "Ogata, I see you made it.." he keeps from flinching, "I did, thank you for the invitation. Yuusaku's wedding should be beautiful, you picked a good location." Ogata smiles politely, he can play nicely for the weekend for Yuusaku's sake, "And this is?" His father is looking up over his shoulder now and Ogata opens his mouth to respond before, "My name is Vasily, it's a pleasure to meet you, sir. I'm Ogata's boyfriend." Hanazawa's face seems to lose a bit of color at that and Ogata keeps his pleasure to himself as Vasily holds a hand out. Hanazawa shakes Vasily's hand stiffly before holding a room key out to Ogata, looking like he wants to get out of the conversation as soon as he can, "Take your things to your room, there will be dinner tonight, you're free to do as you please until then." And that sounds enough like a dismissal for Ogata who takes the room key and leads Vasily inside.

With a sigh of relief, Ogata actually looks at the key for their room number, "That wasn't so bad.." Vasily stays silent behind him, following him to their room. Once they get through the door Ogata is pleasantly surprised. The room is nice, a large bed sits on one side of the room, and there's a decent desk on the other along with a comfortable looking day bed. He walks further in and can see they even have an open-air bath on their patio and a clear view of the ocean. He sets his bag down next to the bed as Vasily hurries toward the patio doors, looking out at the water, "Can we go to the beach? Is that our own private open-air bath? Ogata, you didn't tell me your family could afford something like this!" His words come out so fast that Ogata can barely make out what he's saying, "We can go to the beach in a bit. Yes, we have our own bath. Have you not heard of the Hanazawa corporation?" He sits on the edge of the bed with a sigh, "I guess you may not have since you're not from here or involved in business.. Don't look at me like that. They have money, I don't." Vasily quickly sets his bag on the other side of the bed before sitting as well, "You told me there was a complicated history with your family, but you never gave me the details.." "And I won't. It's not something you need to know." Vasily's head drops a bit, like a puppy that had been scolded, and Ogata sighs, "It's not important anyway. Once they realize I won't be bringing any kids into the family they will leave me alone." Vasily tries to take his hand again and he flinches back, "Let's just.. Keep the couple stuff for in public, okay?" Vasily nods sadly and Ogata has to look away. He stands and walks around the room, busying himself with fidgeting with random things before sighing, "Let's go find something for lunch, we can eat on the beach. Maybe we can catch Yuusaku when he isn't busy." Vasily pulls his sketchbook out and looks hopefully at Ogata, "Of course, you can bring it along, this is your vacation too."

With convenience store food in hand, Ogata and Vasily walk along the beach. Vasily keeps looking excitedly around while Ogata looks for a good spot to sit and eat. There aren't as many people out as he would have expected, but that just means they will have some peace and quiet. He directs Vasily to a good spot and sets the bag down before sitting next to it while Vasily plops down and starts sketching right away. Ogata pulls out his food and starts to eat, looking over every now and then at Vasily's drawing of the view, he is very good, and Ogata finds he wants to see more of his work. After finishing half of his own food Ogata nudges Vasily's knee, "Eat, the view isn't going anywhere." Vasily smiles and digs into his own meal with one hand, pencil still scratching across the paper with the other, just slower now. They relax for a while and Ogata closes his eyes, listening to the ocean, wind, and the scratching of Vasily's pencil on paper. It's nice.. Almost too nice. He doesn't want this moment to end, and if he had any say they would just stay here instead of going to the dinner tonight, but he wants to be there for Yuusaku. The sound of Vasily drawing stops, replaced by the rustling of their bag, and Ogata opens his eyes to look questioningly at him, "We should head back before it gets too late so we can clean up before dinner." Vasily smiles at him as he shoves the trash from Ogata's food into the bag as well. He knows they should, but he's reluctant to stand until Vasily is on his feet, holding his hand out to help him up. Ogata takes Vasily's hand and groans getting to his feet, Vasily doesn't let go and Ogata doesn't make him.

While walking back Ogata tells Vasily about Yuusaku's fiancé and the Koito family, along with information about Yuusaku himself, ".. The others might leave me alone, but I know Yuusaku will do his best to stick around." he trails off as they approach the resort again, outside is Yuusaku and his mother, who gives him an annoyed look while Yuusaku can't see her face. Yuusaku smiles happily at their approach, "There you are! Did you have a nice walk?" He pulls Ogata into another tight hug, always the affectionate one, "We had lunch on the beach, it's very beautiful here." Vasily smiles happily and Yuusaku turns his attention his way, "It is! Oh! Mother." He turns to her and gestures to Vasily, "This is Vasily, he's br- uh.. Ogata's boyfriend." He ducks his head slightly and Ogata knows he's been lectured by her before for referring to him as his brother, old bag.. Vasily smiles sweetly at her, "It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am. Thank you for allowing me to join such an important family event." She looks startled, her eyes darting to Ogata, who forces a smile, and back to Vasily, "My, you're quite welcome. Perhaps we can speak more later at the dinner. For now, Yuusaku, we have things to take care of." She pats Yuusaku's arm to lead him back inside and he smiles quickly at Ogata and Vasily again, "I'll see you both at dinner!"

They return to their room without running into anyone else, and once the door closes behind them Ogata's shoulders finally relax again. Had they just run into Yuusaku he knows he'd have been fine, but his mother. She couldn't have been on board with his new involvement with the family, looking at him like he was to blame instead of her cheating husband. Ogata runs a hand back over his hair and looks up to see Vasily sitting on the edge of the bed. Vasily looks up at him as he gets closer and pats the spot next to him, "We have time, you can rest. Would you like me to leave the room?" Ogata plops down next to him before flopping back onto the bed, looking at the ceiling, "No, unless you want to find somewhere to draw." The bed dips next to him and he turns his head to see Vasily laying next to him, "I'll stay." And Ogata had hoped he would say that, but he can't place why.

The dinner comes sooner than Ogata would have liked, and once he sees how it's set up he wants to leave. He'd expected a sit-down dinner where he would only have to worry about whoever he sat next to and across from, instead it's more of a mingling event. Long tables along the wall have platters of easy to eat foods, but aside from that, there are only a select few chairs along the opposite wall for the older members of the family if they need them. Ogata manages to hide his face behind Vasily long enough to groan exhaustedly and school his expression before they fully enter. With a quick eye, Ogata spots Yuusaku and Heinojou standing in a small group of people so they head that way first. Yuusaku notices them and excitedly tugs on Heinojou's hand, politely extracting themselves from the people that had surrounded them. Ogata may not know Heinojou very well yet, but the way he smiles at Yuusaku, like he puts the stars in the sky, makes Ogata trust that he does love him, "Yuusaku, Heinojou, congratulations." Yuusaku smiles brightly, his face flushed, and Heinojou grins while wrapping his arm around Yuusaku's waist, "Ogata, thank you for coming! I know Yuusaku was worried you might not show up." Ogata chuckles, "I wouldn't miss my own brother's wedding, no need to worry about that." Heinojou's attention shifts to Vasily then and Yuusaku excitedly introduces them, "This is Vasily, I told you about Ogata bringing his boyfriend earlier!" Vasily shakes his hand enthusiastically, "Ogata tells me you're in the navy?" Heinojou and Vasily dive into a conversation about ships, so Ogata turns his attention to Yuusaku, happy to take up their own conversation.

He's not paying as much attention as he'd thought, catching up with Yuusaku. Vasily had stepped away as his and Heinojou's conversation had gotten more animated, so when Ogata looks over again he is startled to see Koito Heiji and his own father have also joined their conversation. Ogata had never properly seen his father smile, but at something Vasily says he laughs and.. And Vasily must secretly be magic. What was happening here? Yuusaku looks excitedly at him, "I think father likes him! You haven't told me how you met, but I want to know if he makes you happy." Ogata meets his eyes then, and Yuusaku looks so serious after asking. He and Vasily are supposed to "break up" after this, but he can't tell Yuusaku that, "He does. Make me happy, I mean. I think I got lucky finding him." He looks back in time to see Koito patting Vasily on the back. The group disperses shortly after that and Vasily is quick to come back to Ogata's side, "Did you old men have fun talking about war?" Ogata jokes. Vasily takes his hand then, pulling it up to kiss the back, "We did. Did you miss me while I was gone?" He winks and Ogata rolls his eyes, ignoring the feeling of his face heating up. Yuusaku looks overjoyed by the flirting, "I need to go meet with other guests, but I hope you enjoy yourselves!" He finds his way back to Heinojou's side, and Ogata watches how they look at each other before looking away, he's happy for them, but he can't help but feel a little lonely, even with his fake boyfriend at his side. Vasily's flirting isn't something he should look forward to after all, he's just playing his part.

As if he can tell Ogata's shift in mood, Vasily squeezes his hand, "Let's get some food, we don't have to stay too long." Ogata lets himself be led by the hand towards the food and presses close to Vasily's side as they look at what there is to eat. Vasily's presence is calming in a room full of people that would rather he hadn't existed at all. With food in hand, they make their way through the gathered people. Ogata makes small talk as needed while Vasily seems intent on being charming with everyone, he doesn't really understand why, but Vasily seems happy, so he won't bother him about it. After a short while, Ogata starts to feel exhausted, he's had more than enough of being around people, especially family. Vasily, again seeming to be a mind reader, is quick to wrap up his conversation with someone who.. Might be a cousin? Ogata doesn't know anymore, he hasn't met most of the people here before tonight, "We should be heading back to our room for now, it was a long trip out, right Ogata?" Ogata nods along as Vasily wraps his arm around Ogata's shoulders and they make their way from the banquet hall. He slumps against Vasily's side once they reach the privacy of the hall and Vasily shifts his arm down to be more supportive, "We'll be in the room soon, I'd like to try the bath before bed, what about you?" Ogata thinks for a moment, a bath before bed would be relaxing, "You can shower first, but a bath does sound nice." Vasily hums in agreement.

Once back inside their room, Vasily heads straight for the shower and Ogata pulls out the bath robes for both of them. He lays out his sleeping clothes before something finally clicks in his head. There's only one bed. Vasily emerges from the shower, towel secured around his waist, and takes the offered robe, giving Ogata a curious look, "Something wrong?" Ogata looks around the room, "No.. But, do you think the day bed would be comfortable to sleep on?" Vasily tilts his head, looking from the bed to the day bed, "Why would you want to sleep there? The bed is big enough for two." Ogata isn't sure if he's joking, but he doesn't need to figure it out just yet, "Nevermind, get in the bath, I'll be right out." Vasily doesn't need to be told twice and excitedly heads for the patio. Ogata heads into the shower himself, letting the water run over his head before his face explodes with heat. He'd managed to keep his cool but what the fuck, Vasily was FIT. Ogata rubs his face with water, trying to make the blush go away. This was Vasily, his fake boyfriend, just some random man he found online to disappoint his father with and hopefully get left alone by the rest of the family because of. Why was he so hot? Why did he seem perfectly fine to share the bed? This was a mistake, he shouldn't have decided to do this after all. Just two nights. He just had to sleep next to a beautiful man with a great personality who was painfully Ogata's type for two nights. How hard could it be?

Ogata finishes washing and dries enough to not drip water across the room before pulling on his bathrobe. With a steadying breath, he leaves the bathroom and heads for the patio.

Vasily is already settled in, eyes closed with a blissful smile on his face, as Ogata steps outside. He pulls his robe off and lays it next to Vasily's before stepping into the water, relaxing a bit as Vasily keeps his eyes closed. He settles in and sighs softly, the water feels nice. Vasily's knee nudges his and he looks over to see Vasily smiling, "Thank you for choosing me, I'm sure you got a lot of emails, I just happened to be the lucky one to come here with you." Ogata isn't sure what to say, and Vasily looks up at the sky without waiting for a response. The stars are bright this evening, and Ogata tries to keep his eyes on them instead of on Vasily. He does try, "Maybe.. We should keep in contact after this?" The words leave Ogata's mouth before he can think better of them and Vasily looks back to him again, his eyes bright with something Ogata won't try to name, "I think we should."

After their bath, and Ogata doing his absolute best to keep his eyes averted while Vasily gets out first, they shuffle back inside. The busy day finally catching up with both of them. Ogata pulls his sleeping clothes on while Vasily pulls his own from his bag and gets dressed as well. He's first in the bed, getting situated before pulling the covers on the other side down for Ogata to join him, "There's plenty of room, and I'll stay on this side if that makes you more comfortable." Ogata gets into the bed and gets situated, "I don't mind.. Don't worry about it." His words fade out as sleep starts to overtake him. He doesn't hear if Vasily responds before he's lost to his dreams.

The morning light illuminates their room and Ogata grumbles as his pillow shifts under him. He turns his face into it, wrapping his arms tighter around whatever he fell asleep holding. Something feels.. Off.. Without opening his eyes, Ogata turns his head to rest his ear against the pillow again, the sound of a slightly quick heartbeat greets him and he cracks open an eye, tilting his head back enough to see Vasily's red face looking down at him. There's a pause before Ogata, now fully awake, shuffles back to his side of the bed and tries to think of how to explain himself, Vasily just laughs softly, "It's fine, I just didn't expect you to be a snuggler." Ogata feels mortified, and the wet spot on Vasily's top where he'd been drooling only makes it worse. He'd never slept that soundly in the same room as someone else, let alone the same bed! And here he was, drooling all over Vasily. Ogata presses his face into his actual pillow as Vasily gets out of bed, "It's still early, do you want to get more sleep?" Ogata shakes his head before feeling the bed dip on his side, "Then, do you want to come to the beach with me?" This damn sweet man was going to be the death of him. Ogata nods slowly into the pillow before shifting to sit up. Vasily was still sitting on the side of the bed close to him, his already normally messy hair now wild from sleep, his bright blue eyes unguarded, and his lips a soft smile. Ogata thinks he could get used to the sight before pushing down the warmth welling up in him. There wasn't time for that, not for him.

They both dress quickly before laying out the clothes they brought for the wedding itself. Breakfast won't be ready for at least an hour, so they head for the beach together. Vasily pulls him into the water, turning their morning walk into a water fight, and they lose track of time until Ogata looks at his watch, "Oh shit." Vasily wrings out his shirt while looking over Ogata's shoulder, most of the water ending up on his back, "We need to get changed, the wedding starts soon." Ogata turns to look at Vasily, then down at himself. They are both soaked through, "We need to shower too. Let's go, we should be able to make it just in time." They hurry back to their room, managing to dodge members of Ogata's family who are already put together and waiting for the reception to start. Ogata's out of breath by the time their door shuts behind him, laughing as Vasily turns with a grin, "I think we made it without being noticed, go shower you smell like the ocean!" Ogata shoves his shoulder before heading towards the bathroom, "Who's fault is that?"

With his hair washed, Ogata starts to scrub himself clean before shouting towards the door, "You should get in now, your hair will take longer!" There's a moment before Vasily joins him, shoving his head under the spray before Ogata holds the small bottle of shampoo out, "This should have enough in it, switch with me.." They brush past each other as Ogata steps back under the water to rinse off, he just makes out a hiss of pain before Vasily is pushing under the water with him, making the already small shower feel much smaller, "Got in my eye.." Is the only garbled explanation he gets. Under the hot water, Vasily's body is somehow hotter pressed fully against Ogata's back and it's almost too much, "Let me get out, Vasily. There's not enough space." The spray of water seems to halt and Ogata looks up over his shoulder at Vasily just in time for him to dump the water he'd been cupping in his hands above Ogata's head with a grin, "I got soap on you again, thought I'd help rinse it off." Ogata sputters before flicking water in Vasily's face, "Let me out so you can finish getting clean. We don't have time to play around." He tries to sound serious, but can't stop the smile on his face. Vasily steps back enough for Ogata to step out and start to dry off, wishing that they did have more time.

Once cleaned and fully dressed, the two rush from their room with just enough time to spare. They make it to where the reception was set up to take place, a beautiful setting on the beach, most of the guests are already in their seats. Ogata stops Vasily and fixes his top, making sure the material lays flat before someone comes up behind him, "You two missed breakfast, I hope everything was alright?" Ogata turns enough to look, his hands still on Vasily's chest. It's Yuusaku's mother, a knowing smile on her face. Ogata isn't sure how to respond to her, not when she obviously has the wrong idea of why they were missing, "We had breakfast by the water, it was my idea." Vasily smiles as Ogata lets his hands drop, she laughs lightly and places a hand on Vasily's arm, "I hope you'll join us for breakfast tomorrow then, it will be a smaller group than this morning's was." She moves on to her seat and Ogata and Vasily do the same. She would have never invited him to join them, but Vasily had worked his magic again it seems. They sit a bit further back and Ogata leans close to Vasily, "How are you so good at talking to people so casually?" Vasily just shrugs and takes his hand, "I'm not."

Things start to settle down around them and people begin to take their places. First is Heinojou, his dress uniform looks brilliant in the afternoon sun, and from where they are Ogata can see his face, barely holding onto his composure. Ogata smiles as murmurs start around him, Yuusaku should be showing up any second, and he keeps his eyes on Heinojou. The music starts up and everyone goes quiet.

Ogata keeps his eyes forward, focused on Heinojou's face, and then he sees it. Heinojou's composure breaks, a hand raising to cover his mouth as tears form in his eyes. It's the look of a man so overcome with love he can hardly contain it. At that, Ogata turns his head to see Yuusaku, standing proud in his traditional wedding attire. There are already tears on his cheeks and Ogata is sure he's probably going to cry the entire time. Ogata may have not been in his life for long, but he's glad to see Yuusaku so happy.

The ceremony begins and Ogata settles in, Vasily hadn't let go of his hand since they sat but he doesn't mind. It's normal for couples to hold hands at weddings, right? He hears a sniffle next to him and turns his head enough to see Vasily wipe his eyes with the back of his hand, such a romantic.. He turns his attention back to Yuusaku and Heinojou, it's time for their vows and Yuusaku gets to say his first. Ogata can hear his voice trembling, and watches as Yuusaku's hand moves to cup Heinojou's wet cheek as he speaks. Heinojou smiles so softly, unable to take his eyes off Yuusaku even as tears spill from his eyes. Vasily squeezes his hand lightly, and Ogata turns his hand to lace their fingers together.

Once it's Heinojou's turn to say his vows, Yuusaku can hardly keep it together. Ogata watches as his shoulders hitch, tears spilling down his cheeks. Heinojou goes quiet and Ogata can just barely hear a concerned, "Yuusaku?" before Yuusaku covers his face with both hands. His shoulders rise and fall as he takes a couple of deep breaths before peeking up at Heinojou, saying something Ogata can't hear from this distance. Heinojou's face lights up and he laughs softly, kissing Yuusaku's forehead before taking his hands again and continuing his vows. The rest of the service goes by quickly and Vasily is one of the first to stand and applaud, pulling Ogata up next to him to do the same and he joins in cheering on the newlyweds. Heinojou, while surrounded by their friends and family, sweeps Yuusaku up in his arms, carrying his new husband bridal style back down the aisle while Yuusaku covers his bright red face to the sound of cheering and well wishes.

The reception begins with more mingling and Ogata is more than happy to stick to Vasily's side, letting him hold conversations while Ogata acts like he's a part of them. For a moment, Ogata steps away to grab them drinks and returns to find Vasily in conversation with Yuusaku's mother again, he's close enough to hear her ask, "So, when are you two getting married?" And his heart nearly stops. Vasily chuckles, "We're waiting to see if it's what we both want, the process of applying for naturalization and all." Ogata can see his soft smile before he leans closer to her, and Ogata gets close enough to just make out his voice as he continues, "I know it's what I want, but I want to know he's ready before I propose." She giggles like he's the most darling thing and Ogata's heart starts to race. They are playing parts. Vasily is playing his role, and that's all it is. Vasily turns and sees him there, a bright smile crosses his face and he takes his drink before taking Ogata's hand. Yuusaku's mother giggles again before moving on to talk to someone else.

Vasily leans in close, "Yuusaku and Heinojou look free, would you like to go talk to them?" Ogata nods quickly before taking a sip of his drink, happy for the distraction, "We should before they get swarmed again." They make their way over and Yuusaku waves to them as they approach, "Yuusaku, Heinojou, congratulations again. The ceremony was beautiful." Ogata smiles as he greets them and Yuusaku blushes lightly, "I did my best to not cry, but I ended up disrupting the ceremony.." Ogata chuckles and shakes his head before Vasily adds, "It just means you are in love. You both made a good choice." He nods to Heinojou who grins, "Thank you, it seems Ogata made a good choice as well." They laugh and Ogata sighs with a smile. Yuusaku smiles fondly and takes Ogata's hands, "Hopefully the next family gathering will be your wedding!" Ogata blushes then and tries to shrug it off casually, very aware of Vasily close beside him, "Maybe. If we do you two will be invited of course." Yuusaku beams at him and pulls him into a hug. Their father starts to approach and Ogata shifts to move away, not wanting to have to deal with him unless necessary. Hanazawa only gives him a quick look before starting to talk to Yuusaku, so Ogata leads Vasily away, "We can stay a little longer if you'd like?" Vasily looks him over a second before kissing the side of his head, he's really laying it on thick and Ogata tells himself he doesn't like it, "We can go whenever you want, we'll see your brother again before we leave tomorrow." Ogata presses slightly into Vasily's space and nods, "We can get dinner somewhere close, unless convenience store food is okay again?" Vasily grins and starts leading him towards the exit where a few other people are also heading out making Ogata feel a little less noticeable for leaving early.

They get back to their room and get changed, Vasily grabs his sketchbook while Ogata packs his nicer clothes back in his bag, "Did you want to draw by the water again?" Vasily nods quickly, grinning, "That's fine, we can go back to where we ate yesterday, you seemed to like it there." He adds the last bit quietly, but at Vasily's look, he knows he heard him.

They walk quietly after buying their food, Vasily seems content and Ogata is happy for the quiet after how busy the wedding had been. Finding the spot they had sat at is easy enough and Ogata sits while Vasily takes a look around. He sits after a moment a little further back from Ogata, who looks over his shoulder at him questioningly, "Just eat, don't worry about it." He smiles brightly and Ogata turns back to his food, glancing back now and then suspiciously while Vasily happily works on his drawings. Ogata finishes his food before leaning towards Vasily, "What are you drawing?" He tries to peek at the paper but Vasily pulls the book up towards his chest, looking embarrassed, "Not yet.. It's not done." That makes Ogata more curious and he turns, shifting onto his knees to get a closer look, "What, it's not like you're drawing me." He grins, but Vasily's face gets more red as he looks away, holding the sketchbook closer to his chest. Ogata freezes before sitting back again, "Have you drawn me before?" a quick nod, "Are.. Any of them finished enough to show me?" A slower nod before Vasily carefully flips back a few pages and, without meeting Ogata's eye, holds the sketchbook out. Ogata takes it and looks at the page he'd opened it to, it's from on the train, Ogata remembers he'd been lost in thought while looking out the window at one point, this must have been from then. He looks over the small details, the distant look in his own eyes, and the delicate lines used to create his image on the page. He looks at it a while before his eyes dart back to Vasily, who looks to have been holding his breath the whole time, "This is.. You're very good." He chuckles awkwardly, "Your skills are wasted on drawing me thou-!" Vasily grabs the sketchbook back with a huff and turns more pages, showing Ogata more pictures of himself, "It's not a waste." He looks serious, and Ogata believes him.

They sit in silence after that, Vasily keeps looking nervously at him but Ogata is lost in his thoughts. Once Vasily finishes his food he stands, tucking his sketchbook under his arm, "It's getting late, are you ready to go back?" Ogata blinks a few times and looks up at him before standing, feeling the loss of Vasily's offered hand from before, "We should, yeah. It was a long day."

The walk back continues to be quiet, and suddenly Ogata doesn't want it to be, "Tomorrow for the trip back, would you mind taking multiple trains for a longer trip?" He looks over to see Vasily had fallen behind and stops, turning to face him, "Vasily?"

"I like you."

Vasily's eyes are too honest, too open, and vulnerable. Ogata feels like he's been shot in the chest.

"Don't.. Vasily, you barely know me. You.." The warmth he'd been pushing down spills over and he chokes. Vasily has a future he wants to share with someone he loves, Ogata can't be that person. There's no love in his future, just work, just a continued state of loneliness. It's safe, it's what he knows, but as Vasily steps closer all he wants is to understand why he needs Vasily to take his hand again. Without thinking, Ogata reaches out, half expecting his fingers to meet only air, but they touch skin instead. Vasily takes his hand, pulling it close to kiss the back softly, "I know you dislike sweets, claiming it's for your teeth but drink black coffee despite it staining teeth. I know you sneak your shiitake mushrooms into other people's food when you think they won't see because you dislike them too. I know you love to cook, but only when there's someone to cook for. I know you love your grandmother and want to see her more often, and that you are happy you were able to connect with Yuusaku after so long. I know you're a snuggler, and drool in your sleep. And I know you are soft on the inside, but will deny it no matter what. I know that I want you in my life, and will do whatever I can to make that happen. If you'll have me." With his free hand, Vasily wipes the tears from Ogata's cheek, when had he started crying? Vasily tilts his head like he's searching for something, but Ogata can't seem to make himself speak. They had known each other for a month and had spent quite a few nights in that time learning about each other. Vasily DID know him because he'd been foolish enough to let him.

Vasily did know him and still..

"I'm stubborn, I won't.. I'm not easy to be with. My work comes first, you'll just leave anyway." Ogata tries to look stern with tears still in his eyes, but Vasily only smiles, "I'm also stubborn, I put my art first, and I'll have to return to Russia soon.. But like I said.. If you'll have me, I'll do whatever it takes to keep you in my life." He squeezes Ogata's hand and Ogata steps closer, resting his forehead against Vasily's chest. This wasn't supposed to happen, so why did he feel so.. So happy? Vasily leans down enough to kiss the top of his head before chuckling, "Multiple trains would be wonderful if it's with you." Ogata presses his face against him and groans in mock annoyance, "I told you how I feel about sweet things.." An amused huff ruffles his hair, "And I told you you'd hate me being your boyfriend because of it, but here we are." Ogata nods against him a moment before remembering that where they are is not exactly private, and anyone could see them in this heartfelt moment. He steps back, standing straight, but doesn't let Vasily's hand go. With a quick look around he sighs with relief, no one was nearby, Vasily steps close again, "May I kiss you?" Ogata looks wide eyed at him but nods, not trusting his voice, and Vasily leans down, kissing him softly. Fireworks go off in Ogata's head, or are they real? He can't tell. All he wants at this moment is to kiss Vasily again, so he does, wrapping his free arm around the taller man's shoulders he pulls Vasily down into another kiss. Vasily wraps his arm around Ogata's waist before they part again, pressing their foreheads together, "I'll take this as you like me too?" He jokes and Ogata sighs, does he?

He does.

He absolutely does, "I'll let you guess for yourself, but for now, I think there's a bath and a bed waiting for us." He chuckles as Vasily's face turns a dark red before getting very suddenly swept off his feet, yelping in surprise as Vasily starts to carry him bridal style back towards the resort, "I think you're right." Ogata doesn't fight it, grumbling, "Put me down before we get inside.." And Vasily kisses him again with a hum of understanding.

The next day has them out of bed early, getting the last of their things packed and ready before they meet Yuusaku and Heinojou for breakfast. Most of the other guests had left after the ceremony, and Ogata is relieved to see their father isn't still there, "Father had to head back late last night, something about work. Mother went with him, though I think she wanted to talk to Vasily again." Is what Yuusaku tells him when he's caught looking around nervously. Of course she would want to talk to Vasily again, he chuckles to himself. The four of them eat together while Yuusaku and Heinojou tell them where their honeymoon will be, obviously excited to go on their trip. Vasily had been to the area they were heading to before and tells them a few good places to stop, earning excited thanks while Ogata smiles at him. There's a brief pause in the conversation before Yuusaku comments, "You keep smiling at Vasily like it's your honeymoon coming up. Don't forget to send us an invite to the wedding!" He winks as Ogata shoves a large bite in his mouth to not have to comment, which may have been a mistake, "You are top of the invite list, don't worry." Vasily grins and Yuusaku looks thrilled.

Ogata wonders, not for the first time, what he'd gotten himself into, and how he'd been lucky enough to get this.
