Chapter Text

POV Hermes

If anyone had asked when it started, Hermes wouldn't have known how to answer.

Maybe it all started when he talked to the thirteen year old boy on the beach sharing coca cola, (certainly smuggled by his children, no doubt! It made the god of thieves very proud!) before leaving for the sea of monsters, or maybe a few weeks later at the stables before the chariot race and had given Poseidon's son the letter from his father. Several months have passed, but even if they were eons Hermes will never forget the expression of amazement of Perseus Jackson, Percy in short, but also the spark of joy that made the irises brighter with the amazing greenery inherited from the god of the sea. Hermes had taken the trouble off because he didn't want to see that show shut down in disappointment.

But the truth is that it could have happened even before meeting him in person when he had seen him on Hephaestus TV, in that abandoned amusement park. Ares and Aphrodite couldn't fall any lower for choice of dates! He had admired Percy for his cheek to the cameras, but also how he had defended the daughter of Athena who came with him and the satyr on a mission to recover Zeus' thunderbolt just two summers ago, landed badly in the mythological world and with little training ...

The truth is, he had no idea!

Looking back on that letter, as a messenger of the gods he couldn't help but know what it was, beyond his curious personality. He grimaced remembering the two words in the center of the blue missive with the scent of salt air.

Hold tight!

"Really Uncle P, you could have tried harder!" sighed Hermes, kneeling in front of the bed with Percy's blue sheets, gently brushing away a jet-black lock from his forehead. At that slight gesture of affection, the fourteen-year-old sighed happily, moving closer towards the hand, a small smile curving his thin lips.

Hermes couldn't avoid letting himself be carried away by that cuteness, he stroked the same spot again, placing a small kiss on the forehead as he pulled the covers up further. As mortal parents do with children.

Hermes loved all of his children. She continued to love Luke despite her hatred for him and even betrayed him in favor of Kronos and in wanting to destroy Olympus, but still loved his son.

And it was that same paternal feeling that the god felt towards his cousin, even if it wasn't right.

Percy already had a father. Hermes respected his uncle and he would not do anything to hurt or offend him.

But she didn't change that dark corner of her mind about him, she's very selfish, she wanted Percy a little to herself. He wanted the same love and devotion the young man felt for his father. Because that's what Hermes felt about the demigod.

He wanted to be his father… to be a part of his life. Prophecy of death or not!

“If I was your stepfather would you love me like that at least a little bit?” He wanted so badly that Percy could see him as a father figure.

And here Hermes made a decision that would change not only Percy's life, but also that of his mother.

The following Monday evening, Sally Jackson befriended Paul Blofis, god of messengers disguised as a mortal literature lecturer, her future husband.
