Work Text:
All Meguru could do was to watch as the person he likes run up to a boy that is the complete opposite of him as they both smile and laugh 10 meters away from him in the school entrance, he felt completely forgotten, like as if the two boys are in a different world from him, a world he accidentally barged in, in hopes of finding a world for him and the person he likes.
That's how it always been. Him a person who was just there as a support character, someone who helps the main character and their leading person meet but never be the one to help them till the end.
All he can feel is bitter jealousy, a bitter jealousy of "why not me" and "am I just really a friend to you?" All he can do is smile in bitter melancholy of "I'm glad you're happy just not with me." All he can smell is the bittersweet air of sweetness of falling in love along with the unhelpful damp road that tells his story of suppressing his own emotions till he can't no more, and the burst of the rain leaves the trail in the road tells his tears and a reminder that all he is, is a side character.
The side character that is better than the main lead, but the author or destiny is such a great person, so they decided to hurt the character's and the audience's feelings.
All he can do is force a smile when the two of them decided to turn to him. finally acknowledging his existence and ushering him to follow them. He smiles like a good side character would. He smiles like what he was always supposed to do because it's the plot in books and movies, side characters suffers alone so the main characters can have all the spotlight. It doesn't matter if he's better. That's just the truth of being a side character.
