The Talent show

Summary:

UA holds a talent show, what more needs to be said? Of course, Izuku wins anyways—everyone else was mediocre in comparison because nobody expected t h a t.

Work Text:

It started with a school talent show. One where Izuku chose to solo, whereas he could have chosen a different song to sing and team up with Tokoyami and Denki.

Oh dear.

Came the day of the talent show, and he watched a lot of dancing, music playing, mina did contortionism, and lots of lip syncing and singing; but that was all pop and sappy stuff with the exception of Tokoyami and Denki playing and singing Call me Little Sunshine by Ghost. And so it was Izuku's turn, right after Bakugou who was forced to play music (it was BTS, Dynamite) with Hanta and Eijirou.

So, this small, innocent, unassuming, green haired boy walked up on stage with a usb and handed it to Mic-sensei, who was one of the judges—because yes, they were being judged. The usb was plugged in, Izuku let Mic start playing, and then he started - well, I don't think it could be called singing yet, could it?

'Eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünf, sechs, sieben, acht, neun, aus.' Murmurs rang through the crowd.
(1-10)

"Is he counting?"
"What language is that?"
"I didn't know he spoke German.."

'Alle warten auf das Licht
Fürchtet euch, fürchtet euch nicht
Die Sonne scheint mir aus den Augen
Sie wird heut Nacht nicht untergehen
Und die Welt zählt laut bis zehn'
(Everybody is waiting for the light
Fear; fear not
The sun is shining out of my eyes
It won’t set tonight
And the world is counting loudly to ten)

More murmurs, as the judges and quite a few of the student body stood still in shock. The music picked up.

'Eins, hier kommt die Sonne
Zwei, hier kommt die Sonne
Drei, sie ist der hellste Stern von allen
Vier, hier kommt die Sonne
Fünf, hier kommt die Sonne
Sechs, hier kommt die Sonne
Sieben, sie ist der hellste Stern von allen
Acht, Neun, hier kommt die Sonne'
(One, here comes the sun
Two, here comes the sun
Three, it is the brightest star of all
Four, here comes the sun
Five, here comes the sun
Six, here comes the sun
Seven, it is the brightest star of all
Eight, nine, here comes the sun)

People were hyping the boy up now; this song was addictive as shit, and a total vibe.

"Dude, this is so cool!"
"I'm in love with this song."
"Omg he's so hot!"

'Die Sonne scheint mir aus den Händen
Kann verbrennen, kann dich blenden
Wenn sie aus den Fäusten bricht
Legt sich heiß auf dein Gesicht
Legt sich schmerzend auf die Brust
Das Gleichgewicht wird zum Verlust
Lässt dich hart zu Boden gehen
Und die Welt zählt laut bis zehn'

Through the usb, it could be heard that this was all self-played; the different parts with different instruments all layered over eachother. Yamada was screeching mutedly, for Aizawa had his head wrapped in capture weapon, into the mic. Through the speakers came a high, feminine humming, as if sung by an opera singer—except it was all Izuku.

'Eins, hier kommt die Sonne
Zwei, hier kommt die Sonne
Drei, sie ist der hellste Stern von allen
Vier, und wird nie vom Himmel fallen
Fünf, hier kommt die Sonne
Sechs, hier kommt die Sonne
Sieben, sie ist der hellste Stern von allen
Acht, Neun, hier kommt die Sonne
Aus!'
(One, here comes the sun
Two, here comes the sun
Three, it is the brightest star of all
Four, and she will never fall from the sky
Five, here comes the sun
Six, here comes the sun
Seven, it is the brightest star of all
Eight, nine, here comes the sun
Ten!)

As Izuku stopped to catch his breath and the music tapered off, it was silent. And then everyone but Bakugou, Aizawa—though he was clapping—and Neito were cheering. He was given all 10's, even though Aizawa actually gave him a 9.5, his highest yet, and Yamada gave the boy a 100. He ended up winning the talent show and was, for his efforts, given a cheap little dollar store trophy, a hundred yen, and a free homework pass that everyone knew he would almost never use.

Bakugou, later that evening and away from everyone else, gave him a rough and grumpy clap on the shoulder, sneered his congratulations and swore he would beat him next time. Izuku laughed and went to sleep, though not before placing his little trophy proudly on his shelf.
