Work Text:
Sleeping was a nightmare for Sam. Every night, when the sun was nowhere to be seen, a ball of stress formed itself in his stomach.
He is having dreams. Not nightmares. But for Sam, dreams were even worse.
He’d rather dream about wraiths, scary skeletons or Gollum. Instead, he dreams about him. Every night. For years. And the hardest thing is the reality punch he receives every time he wakes up and realizes it was simply just a silly dream.
Sam is a happy person. He loves his job, he loves gardening, he loves his friends. Sam loves Frodo above everything, anyone and anything else. Today was a good day. It was sunny, children were playing outside and laughing. It was the beginning of spring, hence Sam’s favorite season, all because he could see his hard work paying off.
“Oh Sam, look how beautiful the flowers are”
Frodo’s voice is music to Sam’s ears. He loves listening to him talking, even more and he talks about Sam. Positively or negatively (though he never talked negatively about his Sam).
“You always work so hard!”
Sam always feels validated around Frodo; he loves how he praises Sam for his good work. Sam smiles to him, and takes Frodo’s hands in his own. It’s Sam’s way to say “thank you”.
“You should be proud of yourself, well, just know that I am”
Sam wants to tear up. He is so lucky to have Frodo by his side, he loves going out with him, having reading sessions in the forest.
“Thank you for being by my side”
Sam means it.
“I’ll always be by your side”
Frodo means it.
Sam smiles. He loves Frodo. He is the sunshine of his life. He is the happiest with him.
Sam holds Frodo in his arms, and closes his eyes.
Yet, this was simply just a silly dream.
