Work Text:

Chad usually wasn't one to stop to the level of breaking and entering, but when he overheard his parents plotting to bring Morgan back into the family fold again, he felt he had no choice.
After avoiding the various death traps in the hallway to Morgan's apartment, he made his way into an apartment that he was very familiar with. Long before it had been Morgan's apartment, and Morgan's apartment building for that matter, it had belonged to their eccentric aunt and her collection of highly trained chinchillas.
Chad made his way into the den to look for clues of where Morgan might be so he could warn them. As much as Chad would have loved to have the whole family together again and he simply could not understand why Morgan had chosen to turn to a life of crime, he did respect their choice not to work in the family business. With someone as powerful and magnificent as the Chadster to live up to, Morgan had always struggled and worked twice as hard for half the recognition. Their parents in particular had always expected Morgan to sacrifice for the family, and to work hard just to support everyone else, regardless of the fact that Chad would certainly get all the credit.
Finding nothing but a work table that might have held either the cure for cancer or the next major bioweapon in the den, Chad turned to go to the living room, and then paused when he noticed a light on in the kitchen. Quietly, he crept along the dividing wall and peered around the corner. He braced himself for a fight, but instead he only found a completely ordinary, empty kitchen. The fridge, which looked a little too big for the space, was covered in postcards from all over the world. After a closer look, he noted the dates on the postcards. One from Brazil, then Argentina, then Australia, then France. Obviously, whatever was written on the cards could not be trusted, since they were all addressed to Morgan's nefarious roommate. Clearly they would be written in some sort of code. If the dates could be trusted, Morgan might be somewhere near Germany by now. But of course, the dates could not be trusted, and Chad would have to search all the locations in the postcards to be sure he could get to Morgan and warn them in time.
He leaned back on the counter, sighed, and then caught sight of an old chinchilla run along the ceiling that Morgan had obviously never bothered to take down. He smiled to himself.
Diego, Chad, and Morgan had spent long stretches with their aunt in this apartment while their parents were out fighting crime and the forces of evil. Aunt Doreen had been less inclined to risk her neck for strangers, and more concerned with personal security and surveillance. Chad had always thought she was sweet, and he had loved her very much, but she had never seemed to be playing with a full deck of cards. After all, what normal person takes a superpower like animal communication and wastes it by creating chinchilla spies who scurry through vents and don't do anything else? Of all the animals she could have trained, chinchillas might have been the most useless. They were too stubborn to just follow directions and too clingy to leave to their own devices. She didn't much appreciate it when Chad told her that she could have chosen better companion animals, though, which is probably why she left the apartment building to Morgan, who had always been great with the chinchillas, when she mysteriously disappeared.
While Chad was looking aimlessly around the apartment, reminiscing about his youth, he did not notice the menacing figure that appeared behind him. Before he got the chance to notice that he was not alone, he found himself falling through the window and then onto the pavement below.
"I have got to talk to Morgan about the security system in this place. Death traps are clearly not enough."
