Work Text:
It was the weekend after the full moon and the house of Te Aro was getting ready to go out clubbing for the night with the vampires. It was their way to de-stress after their monthly transformation. Anton was feeling a bit under the weather throughout the day but he tried to ignore it by working at the park and doing odd jobs around the house.
While he was tidying up he got a text message from Viago, looking at his phone he smiled.
~Looking forward to seeing you tonight, going to boogie the night away~
He let out a small giggle at Viago's enthusiasm. The werewolves had gotten closer to the vampires thanks to Stu. Anton had enjoyed Viago's company each time, much so that he swore he could feel his cheeks heat up and his heart quicken a little each time they hung out together.
He sent a message back saying he was looking forward to it with a smiley face before putting his phone away and carrying on with his chores.
The day soon turned to night and Anton had finished everything. Whatever he was feeling earlier had got worse over the hours but it hit him like a wave once he sat down on his bed. He began to feel hot and cold, sweat breaking out. Managing to take his shirt and shoes off he got into his bed. As he got in he felt certain parts of his body beginning to tingle. He cursed himself as he realised his ears were getting slightly pointed as he touched them and his teeth grew.
"Fuck... I can't go out like this!" He whispered so none of the housemates heard with their enhanced hearing. Taking out his phone he messaged Stu to say he had a headache, to go on without him and to say sorry to the vampires. He felt really guilty not being able to go but did not know how to handle this. His mind flashed to Viago, the guilt hit him more knowing he wouldn't be able to see the vampire’s gentle smile, his bright eyes, what clothing he would wear. He shook his head but realised it was a bad decision as his head hurt even more from it.
"As if Viago would like anyone like me anyway..." He looked down at his body and quickly looked away. Getting a thumbs up text response from Stu, he knew that was his cue to rest his body till everyone left and could grab some medication to help with this fever later.
~~
Viago sat in a booth in the club while everyone was dancing on the main floor. He smiled as he saw the werewolves appear and looked out in particular for Anton. He didn't see him and thought he was running late till Stu came up to explain the situation. Viago frowned hearing the news, thanked Stu and let the man join the others. His mind began to wonder as to what was really wrong with Anton. They had begun to enjoy each other's company, the way Anton would laugh at Viago's jokes, his warm smile and the hazel eyes that had so much love behind them...
"No Viago, Anton doesn't like you that way!" He told himself and he slapped his cheeks on his face. "Why would he love someone like me...?" He asked himself as he thought he was not as attractive as his fellow vampires.
As the night went on, Viago was now on the dancefloor with the others as his mind began to wonder as to how Anton was. At the same moment Anton was tossing and turning in his bed as the fever was getting worse. He was panting as his heart rate got faster. "Vi.... Viago..." he cried out quietly in his sleep.
Viago felt a shiver go down his spine in fear as if something was telling him to go to Anton. He made a quick exit from the club, making an excuse to the others as to why he had to go but didn't care if they believed him or not. Transforming into his bat form, Viago flew as quickly as he could to Anton's house.
~~
Anton was vaguely awake as he tried to control his breathing. He tried to get up to get the medication but his body failed him as the strength was sapped from him. Viago had found a way into the house thanks to a crack on the outside that Anton had pointed out in case any of the vampires wanted to visit with his permission from before. Viago finally got in the building and a scent hit him as soon as he turned back into his human form. He knew it was Anton, but it was as if it was a distress signal of being in danger. He searched around the house and followed the scent till it was at the strongest point, outside Anton's bedroom. He knocked on the door because even though he was worried he wanted to make sure he was mannerly before entering the room. Anton's eyes darted to the door as he heard the knocking, he wondered who it was till he too caught the vampire’s scent and knew straight away who it was.
"Viago...?!" He asked in a shocked tone as he covered his body, his heart began to beat fast again. He didn't want to worry Viago, but knew he would worry no matter what.
"Can I come in?" Viago asked gently as he waited for the werewolf's response.
Anton took a deep breath to help control his pulse. "O... Okay..." he managed to say before hiding a bit more under the covers. The door opened gently and Viago slowly poked his head in with that gentle smile that Anton loved, teeth that barely poked out.
"I hope you don't mind me flying by to see you. Something in the stars told me to do so." Viago began to walk in and the scent hit him hard as he realised something was wrong with Anton. He walked over and sat in a corner of the bed that had room for him to sit down. "Are you ok?" he said as he noticed Anton's ears were pointed, not fully transformed, but noticed they were growing a bit as he looked.
"I don't know... I was ok earlier but then this hit me so quick and took all my strength... I think it's a fever. But it's making my wolf side come out. This rarely happens when I’m sick or if I’m…" Anton said in-between breaths, knowing Viago could see his ears and now sharper teeth. He tried to hide again, embarrassed that Viago saw him this way and nearly blurting out his crush on the vampire. "You don't have to stay, mate. I'll be fine..." Anton said in a happier tone to not worry Viago.
"You don't look fine to me." He said as he moved one of his hands to place on Anton's covered shoulder. "You need some medicine to help. I can go get some to help." He raised a comforting smile to help reassure the werewolf. The touch from Viago was enough to make his head spin again. Just to feel the vampire's hand on him made his thoughts from earlier seem so real as his eyes flashed amber for a split second, the wolf trying to take over again.
"I'd... I'd like that please. Thank you Vi." he replied as he loosened up the duvet he was under and gave a small smile back.
Viago got up and began to walk out the room. "Don't worry, nurse Viago will look after you!" he said as he left to go to the kitchen.
Anton was already missing the vampire's touch but his face turned red as those words repeated in his head as the other left. "You're going to kill me Viago, if you make you imagine yourself in a nurse's outfit..." he quietly said as he tried to calm himself down and keep his feelings in check.
Viago was looking for a first aid kit around the kitchen. He appreciated how tidy everything was and wished things could be the same back at his house. "If only Deacon would at least wash the dishes." Viago sighed as he searched the cupboards. "Aha! Found you!" He gleefully chimed. Getting a glass of water to help, he began to walk out and saw a picture that was stuck on the fridge. It was a group photo of the werewolves and vampires after a night out. Anton had his arm over Viago's shoulder as they both smiled with everyone else. He remembered the leap in his stomach he got as Anton did that. If his heart could beat then he knew it would have skipped one in response.
"No... I need to make sure he gets better. Plus he's a friend, a friend..." he repeated as he headed back to the room. The door was open so he walked straight in and sat in the same spot as before. "Here you go, Anton. If you sit up then you'll be able to take these." Viago said as he left the water on the desk beside the bed and got the tablets ready. "Now I know these won't taste nice but we want you to be healthy again, ja?"
Anton began to gently sit up which took a lot of his energy to do and began to sweat more. He finally sat up right and saw his arms for the first time, they had got a whole lot hairier from his hands to his elbows and his claws had grown out. Reaching up he felt his face had grown fuzzy, teeth now grown into fangs as well. He covered his stomach so Viago couldn't see his body. He wasn't happy with how his body was reacting to the fever and he felt ashamed of it. He took the tablets Viago got ready and a few mouthfuls of water to help it go down. Viago had opened the window and curtains to let some fresh air in the room. After a few moments of silence he looked up.
"I'm sorry about all this. I feel like you're wasting your time looking after me," Anton said in a sad tone.
"Why do you say that? I came here to see you and I'm glad I did," Viago replied, surprised by Anton damning himself this way. "Why do you think you're wasting my time?" He sat back down on the bed and moved near Anton. The werewolf's face turned red at how close Viago was.
"Cause... I... Um... Why would you care about me this way?" he finally stuttered out, letting some of his insecurities out, clutching the duvet closer to him. "I'm supposed to be the Alpha, the strong leader, and here I am stuck in the bed cause of some stupid sickness."
Viago could sense Anton was embarrassed and felt he had to do something to help combat that. "Mein freund, you don't have to be strong all the time. You may be the Alpha, but you're also Anton. You try to be strong for your pack and burden everything that happens. Maybe it's time you had someone return the favour and take care of you." He shifted forward a bit and lifted his hand on the duvet covering Anton, gently lowering it, shifting himself so he could take the duvet off the werewolf.
Anton felt his face flush as Viago did what he did and said, feeling hair beginning to grow on the back of his neck. He wasn't sure if this was a fever now or the wolf trying to take over due to how he truly felt for the vampire. He tried to speak as a sweat broke out on his face, panicking as he didn't want to leave Viago hanging on.
"Viago... I, I..." He couldn't get the words out. Desperate to show his appreciation he took hold of Viago's hand on the bed. He looked at the vampire shyly with his head dipped a bit. "You're right. I've never let my guard down with anyone and only made sure my pack was ok. I didn't want you to see me this way but you're breaking those walls tonight," Anton began as he squeezed Viago's hand. "I think I like you more than a friend but I'm so scared of losing our friendship." He began to sweat again as Viago looked into Anton's eyes, changing from hazel to amber with a hint of fear in them. The moon bathed them both from the window which made his eyes glow more.
Raising his other hand to Anton's cheek, Viago held it there as he leaned in. "You don't need to be afraid. I think I like you more than a friend too... mein liebling." Viago replied with a gentle smile, happy that they shared the same feelings for each other. "You look so beautiful in the moonlight, every part of you is beautiful." Viago continued. Anton hitched his breath when he heard the vampire say those words, he knew there was truth behind them.
"So do you…" Anton replied breathlessly as he leaned forward, raised his other hand to place behind Viago's neck, looked deep into his eyes before closing them and gently kissing him. It felt so magical to do so and wished he could stay like this forever. He was about to move away until Viago moved into the kiss as well and pulled Anton closer to him. They deepened the kiss as they continued, tongues and teeth clashing as they tried to show the other how much they loved each other. Everything that had been building up between them came to fruition, both moaning as they continued to kiss. Anton had to break away for air after a few minutes, Viago could have carried on but remembered Anton still needed to breathe.
The werewolf felt his fever finally begin to disappear as he looked back at Viago. "What I'm trying to say is that I think I love you..." he said with a slight smile.
"I wouldn't have guessed," Viago replied in a smitten tone as he leaned in again and peppered Anton with small kisses. "I think I love you too." He brought a hand up to Anton's forehead. "I think the medication might be working. Or maybe kissing is the cure," he giggled and leaned in to kiss Anton's forehead.
"Maybe I was love sick as well. Hey, I don't want you to get what I've caught though," Anton said, a little concerned.
"Mein liebling, I can't get sick like that anymore, so have no fear." Viago proceeded to give more kisses to prove his point. Whatever effect it was doing was helping Anton slowly return to being human. His ears, nails and teeth shrunk back, the hair disappeared and his amber eyes returned to hazel.
"Wow... Maybe my kiss is the cure!" Viago exclaimed as Anton went to look and saw he was himself again and smiled.
"I don't remember reading about this in my Lycanthropy books. Maybe my own stubbornness made the wolf want to come out more and now I told you how I feel, I'm ok again," Anton said as Viago absorbed every word. "What I mean to say is you're right. I don't want to let down the pack, which is why I take the brunt of everything for everyone. I'm their shield, their protector. I never let my guard down, until you came into my life. You began to chip away that shield and I didn't realise till tonight how much I needed you. Thank you for taking care of me and letting me be me around you." Anton felt a lot lighter as he continued to confess how he felt. It was his turn to pepper Viago's face with kisses and leave a lingering one on his lips. "I'd ask you to stay but I bet you need to head back home before sunrise." Anton had a sad smile as he said it, he didn't want Viago to go after tonight but didn't want to be selfish.
"Nein, I'm staying here with you tonight to make sure you're ok and I'm guessing my werewolf would like cuddles in bed. Plus I have my ancient soil to leave under your bed," Viago replied.
Anton blushed again hearing that proposition. "Can I be the little spoon?" he asked quietly.
Viago smiled and leaned his forehead against Anton's. "Of course, anything for you. Let me get things ready and I'll join you," Viago replied as he got up, shutting the bedroom door, the window and the curtain, taking off his jacket and shoes before placing the bag of soil on the floor and getting into the other side of the bed. Anton laid down and turned to face Viago as he got in.
"Come here mein werewolf, let me protect you." Viago opened his arms for Anton which the others happily obliged. Once in the vampire's arms, he let the rest of his worries disappear. "I love you Anton," Viago gently said as he kissed the top of Anton's head and gently squeezed him.
"I love you too Viago." Anton replied, the same time as he felt his body grow tired. For the first time in a long time he felt protected, he felt safe and he felt loved as they both fell asleep.
