bakugou katsuki, flipped.

Summary:

You annoyed him to no ends. And he tried, everything, every way to get rid of you. He made you hate him, dated your enemy against his will so just you would stop chasing him already, but when you did, he found himself in a huge mess. When you started to avoid him, it annoyed him more. Being ignored by you seems like the most infuriating feeling ever, and now that you've shown interest to someone other than him, it made him realize that he had flipped. Hard.

Notes:

Slight Flipped AU where in we have Bakugou as Bryce Loski, and reader as Julie Baker (except he's Bakugou, and you're you if that makes sense) If you haven't read/watch Flipped yet, check it out! It's an all-time fave of mine.

Work Text:

From the very start, Bakugou Katsuki has made it clear to you that he has zero tolerance for your presence. Ever since you were kids, he was distant, no matter how much you tried for you and him to get along, it was always one-sided, you were the only one who wanted to be friends.

And the first time your eyes laid on the ash-blond with spiky hair up, you flipped.

His eyes were mesmerizing, in the shade of dark piercing red; vermillion. And that was also the time when you conclude, that you and Katsuki are fated.

It wasn't the easiest formed friendship. He was hard to understand, and he had hurt your feelings for so many times, that sometimes you're numb to the insults, backlash, and just him avoiding you in general. As for Katsuki, it didn't help that his so-called 'friends' are your friends too.

That one day in middle school has traumatized him for the rest of his life. As you run towards him and hugged him when you found out that you are in the same class, he cringed at the memory. Because from that day on, his friends starts to tease him to no ends, but that is until their very first year in high school.

When Katsuki, started to date Camie. Your long-time enemy, the campus knew the two of you as a pair with high blood against each other. Even though it was against his will, he figured it was a way to get rid of you. And yup, he was right. You hated Camie, the girl Kaminari claimed to be the hottest girl in the school. That's why you avoided him, and he found his peace.

You figured that despite your hatred against things, you have to set boundaries and respect them. Although, you know that Katsuki is only doing this to get you off his ass. Sure, you'll give him space. If that is what he really wants. As you were thinking and drowning in your thoughts, you didn't notice that you had bump into someone. An unfamiliar dual-haired guy, the other half is white, and the other is red.

"I'm sorry!" You apologize quickly and help him pick up his books and some papers that is now scattered on the floor.

"It's fine." He smiled.

He's pretty, his smile is pretty. Almost like a prince.

For once, Katsuki is having the best life in peace.

But that ended abruptly when Shindou Yo, a closed friend of Camie told her Katsuki's intentions. That he used her to get rid of you, which by the way, isn't very manly of him according to Kirishima. The afternoon ended with Katsuki's cheek stinging from the slap he received from Camie, and you grinning on the other side much to his irritation.

The very next day, Camie started dating Shindou.

"Yeah, she's a bitch. Should've known." He scoffs as he made his way to their usual table, walking past Camie and Shindou's. Unlike the days where he was still dating Camie, he found you sitting in the same table. "Hey," he greeted as he sat down beside you.

"Hey, Katsu." You grinned.

Right, and all of a sudden he's regretting this now. Although, he didn't want to admit it, he feels like he missed being called by that stupid nickname you gave him. He may not like you, the way you like him, he realizes that you are the first person to tolerate his dirtbag presence. Maybe, he'll try to be nicer in the future. Maybe.

"You guys, ever heard of the transfer student?" His ear perks up at what Ashido said. It seems a little too late for a transfer student now, way too late in the middle of this school year.

"Ooh, I've met him!" You chirped in.

"Transfer student, huh? Is it a girl? Is she hot?" Kaminari inquired.

"Him." You emphasized. "He's a guy, you guys." You chuckled. And now, Mina was the one shaking her to no ends. Inquiring about this new personality arriving at U.A way too late. "Calm down, Ash!" You laughed, stopping her never-ending questions.

"Hell no! Answer me, is he hot!?"

Katsuki felt something wrong in his stomach, he was sure that it wasn't because of the food he's eating right now, nor because his breakfast, but something about the way your eyes glisten in genuine interest while talking about this new transferee. He was so used to you just fawning over him, being the center of your attention and all, that's why when this guy is mentioned, he felt sick.

"He looks like a prince," you grinned, answering Mina. He catches your gaze at him, and he looks away before you could see the irritation and the very visible frown in his face. "But, I'm kind of loyal." You added, it didn't help to make him feel relieve at all!

Kind of loyal, huh? His shoulder tense at that, his teeth grits harder the more Ashido inquire about this guy, and the more you answer her like you know him that well already, made his jaw clench. What's with the sudden change of heart? He wanted to ask you. You barely give the other guys in your class a chance, heck there are a lot of them, nor even look at their way. If the school thinks Camie is the hottest girl, well they are damn wrong, because he knew it's you-

"DAMN IT!"

Since when did he start to think of you in that way?

"Hey, calm down dude. What's got your panties in a twist?"

"I don't fucking wear panties, shitty hair!"

Revenge. Yeah, that must be it. Katsuki knows you're one petty idiot, that's why you're doing this. To annoy him, and why was he even this annoyed in the first place? If this is your plan, then fuck him, because it's working. Well, if that's the case, then he should just make it up to you... right?

But instead of making it up to you like he planned, things happened.

You've been in love with Katsuki since you were just kids. Not exactly that deep, but you realize that as you grew older the feelings you had for him is more than an infatuation. But before him, you already have your first love that no one could ever match. It was the sycamore tree, on an empty land in your village. It has been there ever since you were a kid, and it has witnessed all the times when you asked Katsuki to climb the tree and enjoy the view beside you, in which he always refused with a lot of stupid excuses. You pity him for not seeing the great view from above.

Pink and orange hues cast in the horizon of skies, dancing around each other. The sun setting means the day is about to end, but it also has one meaning, and it means that there's a new tomorrow. The cold breeze above felt amazing. Every time the cold air hits your face, it makes you shiver and smile. The air above is always fresh, that it feels overwhelming. It was your place. A rendezvous, your safe haven.

"You should really try climbing this tree for once Katsuki, it's beautiful up there!" You said as you dust your pants, ready to enter the school bus.

"No thanks, if you think that's beautiful then you clearly need to explore the world more." He smirks at that. He think that it's a smart comeback.

You rolled your eyes, "You're just visually challenge." The ash-blond gives you a very handsome smile before you look away and finally enter the bus. That ass, he knew how much you like him, isn't he? That's why he's always like this.

There were days, up in the sycamore tree when you thought of him continuously. If you ever stop chasing him, would he even notice? Not like he has been watching you for years, you figured that most of the time he is just forced to tolerate you since you lived in the same neighborhood, and it was convenient.

The very next day, Katsuki found you in your stupid tree, sitting and crying like an idiot even when the authorities are trying their best to get you down. He heard that the owner of the land wants the tree cut down, since they're planning to build a house, but clearly you're giving them a hard time.

"Katsu, please!" You called, in tears. "If you just please, come up here with me, please..." your eyes had formed a new batch of tears as you hugged the tree yourself, there's no way he'll go up there, but the way you look it made his heart sank.

"Guys! If we're all up here, they wouldn't cut it!" You tried as you convince the other students, now boarding the school bus. He shook his head, if Kirishima is here, so is Kaminari and Sero, along with Ashido they will probably climb that tree with you. But he's not like them. He tried his hardest to forget your face, sobbing, as he boarded the bus.

From that day on, you never look at him the same.

"Poor wife, she married a dreamer." His mother said one night during dinner, the sun was barely there he took a glance from where his mother eyes at, and it was on your father, who's outside painting. Or at least, that what it seems like in his eyes.

The next day, you were absent. You filed an excuse that you're sick, but of course he knew better. The day after that, he tried to catch you board the bus. But you didn't appear to annoy him and force him to sit beside you. He found out from Izuku, one of your childhood friends that you started to ride your bike on the way to school. And you avoid him, it was endless. Until he couldn't take it anymore.

"What's wrong with you!?" He finally cornered you, after your continuous sucess in avoiding him for the past week. Your eyes cold, uinterested. You never spare a glance at him for the past week, and now he's got you cornered it was your cold eyes that met him.

"Nothing." You mumbled.

"Clearly, it's not fucking nothing when you're acting like this!"

"I need to go home, Bakugou. You'll miss the bus, so hurry."

His eyes widened. He couldn't even remember the last time you called him in his last name, or was there even a time other than right now? It made his jaw clenched so hard, at the same his grip on you tightened you started to struggle.

"Let go, Katsu! You're hurting me!"

The sudden brought of his nickname calmed him down. The corner of your eyes stings with tears as he held you wrist, gently now. Not letting you go still. He release a sigh and bit his lower lip as you cried in front of him. It was so wrong to think that you're really pretty when you cry, so wrong of him. He pulled you closer and let you sobbed at his chest. You made no struggle as your hand pressed strongly against his chest along with your face. He felt the tears getting his shirt wet, but he didn't care, as he was now getting a reaction out of you, after being cold and stoic for a week.

"I'm sorry."

Katsuki learned the name of the transferee for the first time. And it's as if you weren't contented with sitting with five idiots already, you brought another one again. After he apologize, he expected things to go back to the same shit he deals with every day. It is. Except when you brought Shouto, your new friend in the table along with the nerd Izuku, and his girlfriend, Ochaco. This guy with his looks and mysterious personality annoyed him to no ends. And the fact that he had the audacity to sit beside you, Katsuki's usual spot, he easily became a menace in his life.

"Move," he mumbled under his breath, voice stained with irritation as the dual-haired guy looked up to him.

Shouto made no move, and continue to slurp his noodles, unbothered.

"Move you fucking half-half."

"K-Kacchan, just sit here."

"Yeah, chill out bro."

"Let our prince have the seat today," Ashido chirped in.

"Don't fucking want to," he grits his teeth, clicking his tongue in irritation.

You sighed. "Ash, move for a bit and let this grumpy boy take your place." You said to Ashido who's sitting by your side, clearly Katsuki is being petty.

"What!? No way! I'll sit here, this is my seat!" Katsuki yelled, pointing towards Shouto's direction.

"There's no name of you in it." Shouto stared, blankly.

"Katsu, just sit here beside me already. Let me have my lunch in peace, please." He let it be that way just for that day.

Because the very next day you head to the table with Shouto again, Katsuki's full name is vandalized, in bold black letters right into the backrest of his chair, officially marking it as his seat. You let out a sigh, rolling your eyes as he stood all smug in front of Shouto that day. He's really going at it.

"Unbelieveable."

"Yeah? You better believe it princess."

"You're so petty." You snickered.

"I am not," he denied as he gaze at Shouto beside you.

"Just claiming what's mine." He glared and added.

You shrugged, unaware of the tension.

The next week, an announcement from the school is posted on the huge bulletin cork board.

You giggled in enthusiasm as you read the announcement. When you found out about the upcoming event on Valentine's Day, you tease Katsuki endlessly, as he was one of the chosen ones again to be a basket boy for this year's auction. This event, was to bid for the basket boys, and help the school raise funds, and a lot of your guy friends are selected, he was one of them.

Of course, you're gonna bid for him, like you did last year. If you can remember it clearly, you'll definitely anticipate Katsuki wearing a suit again. You're gonna earn a date, and some food of his cooking at this. Yup, that is the original plan, well, not until Camie came to make a petty challenge with you.

She said that she was bidding for Shouto, because she notice how close the two of you are, and how she finds him hot, she needs to be the one with him since they look better together than two of you. You shrugged her shit off, because, after all, you're gonna bid for Katsuki, and no one else.

But that's when Shouto asked you a favor. He heard about Camie's plan, and he's having none of it.

"Please," he pleads. "I'll pay you after, just so I don't end up with her. I don't want to deal with her all day," and with his eyes, you could never say no.

You are his first friend in this school, and he was there for you during those days when you are crying like an idiot because of Katsuki. And come to think of it, in your eyes Katsuki was never really one to enjoy these things, he'll be fine without you, right?

Or so you thought.

Forced in a suit and tie, Katsuki held the basket tightly as he looks for you in the crowd. You are the only one who can save him from this shit right now, and he'll accept no one other than you. He's positive that you'll bid for him, he even cook the meal he prepared by himself because he knew you love his cooking.

"Saw her with a stack of cash a while ago, Kacchan." Kaminari said nudging his elbow.

"You think she'll bid for you again, this year?"

He scoffed, of course you will. "Of course, idiot."

"Damn, I wonder who's gonna bid for me." Sero groaned.

"If your face weren't as plain as your fucking sandwiches, then maybe someone nice will bid for you fucking Hanta." He blurted out.

"Hey, that's below the belt!"

"Well, good luck to you guys, I'm gonna rest-assured 'cause I know Mina will bid on me." Kirishima stood all smug in his stupid red suit.

"Man! Do you think Kyouka will bid for me!?"

Shouto who was right next to him was quiet. Not like he's not like that all the time, but his silence made Katsuki felt somewhat uneasy. Now that this new guy is beside him, unlike last year, it felt different. His confidence are now backfiring as he saw you entered the venue with your girl friends, and he notice that this half and half guy beside him felt the same relief as he saw you.

His fists clenches at his side, what is this feeling?

As soon as the venue was stuffed with a lot of students, the bidding the started.

Your eyes never left Katsuki's figure. He's like a handsome devil in his black suit, red tie. His hair was no different from the usual he had on, but he looks extremely handsome right now. His frown and the way his eyes pierced through yours, felt illegal.

Your eyes then flew to Shouto beside him, no doubt that he looks exceptionally good too. His looks are more on the softer side. And Katsuki is more on the rough edges, something that you really like about him.

"I'm sorry, Katsu." You whispered, low and small.

The auction started from with the Ochaco's boyfriend, Izuku. The master of ceremony has announced what he's like, his qualities and skills, his academic standing, and what food he had brought. Ochaco was the highest bidder for Izuku, no one even tried to defy her, because she glares at everyone who tries and think that they have a chance on her boyfriend. You chuckled at that.

The next one was Tenya, another boy from your class. The highest bidder is not from your class. Then followed by a couple of guys you didn't particulary knew.

Kaminari was over the moon as Kyouka beside you won as the highest bidder for him. It was unexpected, nonetheless you were happy for the two of them. Mina for Kirishima, and some student from class B for Hanta.

And now they're down for the last two.

You glanced at Camie who's only a few seats away from you. She glared at you and narrowed her eyes like a hawk as Shouto's name was called.

"And, now here we have Shouto! Shouto is a sweet guy despite his cold looks, so don't be fooled! He's a transferee late this year who easily bonded with a lot of students despite being new, his marks as excellent from his previous school, as well as the rankings he's at right now. Shouto brought baked sweets that his mother specially made for the lucky girl today, be the first one to taste his strawberry shortcake! Bidding price starts at 5!"

"15!" Camie's voice roared and filled the whole venue. You shut your eyes, as the bidder search for anyone to defy Camie, when you opened your eyes, you switched looks between Shouto and Katsuki.

"30!" You yelled with all your might.

Camie's eyes widened, all tense that you doubled her price. "35!"

It was the end for Katsuki as he heard your voice roared among the audience again.

"50!"

Rage seethes through his blood, as his mood sours and jealousy boils inside him. He clenches his fist, as his vision blurred, you and Camie still going at it. Offering higher price every now and then. He shut his eyes off, as he forced himself not to look at you desperately trying to win the guy in front of him. It was suppose to be him, it was suppose to be him, the stack of cash was suppose to be for him. You are suppose to be for him, and just for him.

"200, going once, going twice!?"

"Sold!"

The sound of the gavel hitting the round and small wood made him fall back to reality, realizing that maybe, he's not the only one for you. As dramatic as it seems, Katsuki realizes that you're the only one for him, the only one who can stand him. The only one who has been there from the start, the one he had hurted the most growing up.You are the one for him, but he's not the only one for you. You will always have other options. And he had flipped, hard. As he stared at you across the table, laughing with Shouto.

How could you sit there and laugh, and look so beautiful?

"What? You wish you're the one with her right now?" Camie rolled her eyes in front of him. "What's with her anyways? You guys are so hooked with a normal girl-"

He stood, loudly. Enough to catch everyone's attention inside the room, including yours. He stared at you for a second, and you look at him as if you're apologizing. You should be. Because right now, it hurts so bad that he can't do anything but to walk out of the scene. He is so ready to yell at you, ask you what the fuck is going on, and why aren't you with him? But now's not the time. He will just lash out his anger on you, and that's a bad idea. He had learned from his past mistakes and he wouldn't do shit again. But for now, at least, he deserves the space that he's been asking you since you've met.

The days felt like years as you stared from the window across his room. He's mad at you, you're sure. Because even when the Bakugous had asked your family for a dinner on their home, he barely spare a glance at you. He was dressed in a black skull t-shirt with a checkered red flannel on top of it, he frowns all night, but forced a smile every time your parents asked him something. When he stood because he finished eating, you followed him, with your own dishes in your hand.

"I'm sorry," you started, he removed your plate on your hand and wash it along with his. "Shouto asked me a favor before the event started, and I c-couldn't refuse, since he's a really good friend to me." You whispered, low and small. You forced yourself not to break down at his silent treatment.

He notice the tears starting to form from your eyes, and he lets out a sigh. He dried his hands,  and for the first time after almost a week, your eyes finally met his vermillion ones again. He lift you chin with his index finger, and wipe your tears away using his thumb.

"Don't start crying on me now, idiot."

"I like you." You confessed something he knew for years now. But even if he did, it still feels nice to hear it from you. For you to confirmed it. And assured him, that maybe- maybe he's also the one for you.

"I know." he whispered, low and small.

"I like you too."

Your eyes lit as you hear the words thar you've waiting for so long to hear. You pulled him closer, and he lets you. You're forgiven, his silence somewhat said. You smiled against his chest as he basked you in his warmth inside his embrace.

Bakugou Katsuki, you flipped.

"You'll have to never let me go if you want to watch this tree grow," he declared as he placed his hand on top of yours, he smirked when he hear you laugh and complain about more soil getting into your nails.

Katsuki's idea to asked you out is to plant your stupid favorite tree in his own yard. As much as he hates it, it made you happy through the years, and that tree was also one of the witness of the two of you growing up. He'll never admit it, but when the tree was gone, all chopped, he also have his fair share of regrets. And someday, he'd like to climb on a tree, with you.

"Why? You'll banned me from your front yard if we break up?" You raised an eyebrow to him.

"I'll do more than that princess, so promise me." He urged you, and squeezes your hand underneath his. "Never leave me." He whispered soft, as he tilt his head, and pressed as soft kiss on your lips. It taste just like what he expected, sweet.

You smiled against the kiss, flipping your hand so you could intertwined your fingers with his.

"Never."
