Work Text:
Hyodo is on a trip.
He's been on this trip for almost a week now, and admittedly, Banri is beginning to miss him.
His purple hairs are no longer lingering on his bedsheets (that Banri had begrudgingly washed, knowing hyodo wouldn't be in the mood to do himself when he returned); his candy wrappers are no longer littered throughout random areas of their shared room- which Banri found to be a shame in a way, as if their shared accommodation had lost its personality; and his unwashed clothes are no longer sprawled carelessly across the floor.
Well, all except for Hyodo's Letterman.
"So fuckin' dirty" Banri groans, as he throws all of his boyfriend clothes into a pile.
Banri had hoped that Hyodo's nasty habit of leaving his shit everywhere would eventually leave him, though it wasn't exactly looking too hopeful.
As he goes to pick up the last piece of clothing, he stares at it, ever so slightly intrigued.
It's Hyodo's go-to, purple, letterman, the one he's worn practically everyday, the one that despite this, he's forgotten to take with him. When banri picks it up, he can't stop himself, lifting it to his nose and inhaling.
Sweet.
The scent is comforting above all else, it reminds him just how much he really misses Hyodo. A light hint of something sugary- chocolate perhaps? Or maybe meringue- mixed with the sweaty undertone.
Bannri's next actions seem almost automated.
Within seconds, he's now wearing his boyfriend's jacket, fully embracing the smell he misses so desperately. He sits down and leans against the wall, snuggling into the fabric.
As his knees tickle his chest, he thinks to himself 'if only Hyodo knew I missed him this much'.
He slides his legs forward and fully flops onto the floor, beginning to roll around as he is unsure what else to do with his body. If he thinks hard enough, he can imagine Hyodo hugging him like a California roll, wrapped around him fully and making him feel complete.
Why could hyodo never take a hint? Banri wishes that he hadn't taken it so literally when he'd asked hyodo not to call him.
Infact, this whole week he's been waiting for him to call his bluff. Why isn't he calling?
Fuck, no.
Why isn't he here???
Diving his nose into this unwashed jacket (which now that he thought about it, was kinda gross) is the closest he's been to embracing that idiot all week.
Hanging out with Kazunari is fun.. But it's barely the same. Kazunari's bubbly excitedness just can't overshadow Hyodo's subtly adorable quirks.
Playing games with itaru gets him fired up, but winning a game of mario kart simply doesn't compare to the thrill he felt after his first successful performance with Hyodo.
Venting his problems to Tsumugi was helpful, but he'll never feel as vulnerable as he does on nights where he'll sit in hyodos arms, crying his eyes out with no verbal exchanges between the two.
Okay, it's really fuckin' obvious that he misses Hyodo now. He can't stop thinking about the damn daikon.
It's like every thought he uses as a distraction, brings him back to his boyfriend in one way or another.
He once again, curls up against the jacket.
Man, this really sucks.
Never in his life has he thought he'd find himself missing anyone this much, especially someone he constantly fights with.
Not that their fights are very serious anymore.
Even on the occasions where that line becomes blurred, they both find themselves lounging by the end of the day, lazily muttering sorry's to each other underneath their breaths and forgetting it ever happened.
Because at the end of the day, Banri knows it means nothing.
They love each other, it's that simple.
Which is why it's so damn infuriating that they haven't interacted in a week. Banri doesn't want to cave first; he doesn't want to call and say the words "i miss you'; he doesn't want hyodo to hear his shaken voice, a result of him almost tearing up after finally hearing his voice.
To banri this is a one sided game. A game that, at first, he was determined to win.
But as more time passes, he feels his pride diminish. His ego is no longer important. All he knows is that he misses Hyodo, and that his phone is in his pocket fully charged.
He doesn't want to cave, but in the end-
He phones Hyodo.
Ring…ring…ring…
He picks up.
Before Hyodo can say a word, Banri takes a light jab at him before whispering "I love you, idiot".
His voice almost quakes when he asks hyodo if he misses him too. He takes a deep breath.
His heart implodes when he finally gets to hear Juza's groany and deep voice- he'd just woken up from a nap.
"I missed ya too."
Banri could combust.
"When are you coming home?"
The calm tone doesn't match Banri at all, he can't even find it in himself to add a snarky comment about how Hyodo probably misses him way more.
Because he knows that'd be a load of bullshit.
"Prolly tomorrow mornin'."
That soon? Banri can't wait. Infact, his legs are shaking in anticipation, and there's no stopping the smile that slivers its way onto his face. His eyelids fall and he takes a deep breath, finally being able to relax
Hyodo is coming home.
Banri groans lightly on the other end, and then there's a long pause
"Settsu..?" Hyodo calls, but there's no answer. Instead, he can hear loud snoozes on the other end of the phone.
Hyodos warm jacket, and the sound of his soothing voice, have sent Banri to sleep.
The first comfortable sleep he's had all week.
—-------------------
"Oi, Settsu."
Banri is awoken by a familiar voice calling his name.
When he sits up, he instantly groans. He doesn't know how he'd ended up asleep on the floor, but it's left him with some killer fuckin' back pain.
"Ugh" Blinding light seeps its way into Banri's eyes. That's strange, when he fell asleep it was bright outside, so he definitely didn't have the lights on… or at least he doesn't remember having them on?
Banri is far from in the mood to get an earful from Sakyo about running up the electricity bill, so he rubs his eyes, discarding all the crust formed from being slightly teary and uses his arm as support to get up.
Before he finally decides to look up.
What the fuck?
"Hey Settsu, are ya deaf or somethin'? I've been callin' ya this whole time"
What the fuck???
"You…" And for the first time in his life, Settsu Banri is left speechless.
Hyodo is in front of him.
After a week of not speaking to each other, Hyodo is in front of him.
Without thinking much, Banri scrambles to his feet and falls into Hyodo's arms, almost tripping over as the two of them clash.
He hugs him tightly
"This isn't like ya Settsu." Hyodo blurts out, only for Banri to give his arm a light squeeze.
"Will you shut up for one goddamn second" before taking a deep breath. His voice is wavering. He doesn't want it to, he doesn't want Hyodo to see how vulnerable he makes him. "Do you even know how fuckin' worried i was about you? You didn't bother to call me, not even once".
Hyodo's expression softens, "I didn't call you because you told me not to. Ya coulda' just asked someone else how i was doin'."
"I obviously didn't mean it, you idiot!... And It's not the same when I don't hear it from you."
Juza cocks his head to the side and his brows furrow "How was I supposed to know that? How many times do i gotta tell you, you need to tell me what ya mean directly."
He shuffles, so his arms are wrapped around Settsu.
" 'Sides, I was hurt too. I wanted to talk to ya everyday i was gone." Banri looks up, feeling slightly guilty "But I wanted to respect ya wishes, and Itaru told me that relationships take time off all the time… so I assumed you knew what you were doin' or somethin'..."
Itaru will not be safe when Banri gets his hands on him.
"Hey, don't listen to Itaru, he's a fuckin' virgin who's only relationship has been with a bunch of pixels." And banri leans up to press his lips onto Hyodo's, before shying up and looking to the side, "M' sorry for the calling thing, it was just meant to be a joke, i didn't know you'd take it seriously, I'll try and be more honest from now on. I really did miss you… so don't you dare think otherwise"
Hyodo lets out a low chuckle. "I can tell ya missed me when yer wearing my jacket like that." And Banri's face flushes, he'd completely forgotten about it, and now embarrassing memories of him inhaling the jacket like some kind of crackhead flood his brain.
"I can explain."
"I'm sure ya can."
"Fuck you."
But Banri isn't upset, no, in fact he's laughing. He and Hyodo still have a lot to work on, but this is the happiest he's ever been.
Banri pulls Hyodo in for another kiss and smiles.
"Welcome home fucker."
