Work Text:

Unknown to the two Marines, a certain mischievous blonde had been listening in on their session the entire time, pleasuring herself to all the wonderful sounds they were making. She sat half naked on the floor of her room, covered in her juices.
“Boy those two sure are lewd…” She sighed sadly and grabbed some tissues off her nightstand to clean herself up with. “’Wish I had someone who loved me like that…” The blonde blew out the candle on her nightstand and crawled into bed. She removed her sleep shirt and laid back with a loud thump, curling up into a ball. Eventually she succumbed to sleep, remnants of tears still on her cheeks. Carla woke up the next morning with a loud groan as she stretched, causing her bed to creak slightly. After a moment, she sat up and memories of the night before flooded her mind as she saw all the used tissues on the floor. She sighed and leaned over to grab the bottle of cola on her nightstand. She popped the cap and took a sip but then immediately spit it out into a tissue “Blegh! It’s flat, how disappointing…” she attempted to throw the tissue in her waste bin, but her aim was off. It fell to the floor, and she shrugged. The blonde grabbed her sleep shirt and hair ties. Instead of doing her usual twin tails, she decided today she’d opt for a low ponytail, very unusual for her. Carla threw on some panties and a pair of shorts and made her way down to the mess hall for breakfast. Once there, she was surprised to find only Geena, who was sitting with a cup of tea and the morning paper.

“Morning boss…” Carla groaned then followed with a heavy yawn.

“‘Morning Carla.” Geena’s gaze was fixed on her newspaper. “Sleep alright?” There was no answer from the blonde and this prompted Geena to redirect her attention. She folded the newspaper and set it down gently on the table. Upon seeing Carla, she immediately knew something was wrong.

“Carla is everything alright?” Geena’s tone became concerned. “You look exhausted…”

“Had a rough night…” the blonde managed to get out trying to hold back lingering tears. “Not sure if I want to talk about it.” Geena got up from her chair, went over to Carla and put a hand gently on her shoulder.

“Would you feel more comfortable talking about it in my office?” Her voice was gentle and motherly. Carla had forgotten that Geena could sometimes be this way when the situation called for it. She nodded and followed the tall brunette back to her office in silence. It had been a while since she was last in her office and the smell of old books and newsprint immediately hit her nose as the opened the door as Geena gestured to her to enter. Inside, Carla threw herself haphazardly onto the couch in the corner of the room. The other girl pulled up a chair and sat down in front of her, one leg crossed over the other.

“So, what’s got you down lately?” Geena kept that gentle voice as she spoke, reassuring Carla that whatever she was about to reveal would not be judged in any manner.

“It’s about Jenny and Marian…” the blonde's voice was low and sulking. “I overheard them last night doing… stuff.” Geena raised an eyebrow.

“Stuff?” Geena immediately knew where this was headed, but instead decided to play coy to hear what Carla had to say. She wasn’t the only one who heard what those two were doing last night.

“You know ...stuff.” Carla could feel her face flush a little from embarrassment. She really didn’t want to say, “I heard Jenny and Marian going at it like wild animals through the wall of my room.” and she was hoping Geena would understand by what she meant by the tone of her voice alone. Thankfully, Geena picked up on it.

“Ah, I understand now…” Geena’s voice became lighter, as if she had just been reminded of a past memory or experience. She let Carla continue.

“I got really aroused from all the sounds they were making and decided to take care of myself.” the blonde sighed. “But I immediately regretted that decision after I finished…”

“I see…” Geena sunk back in her chair a little. “You became depressed afterwards, and the sudden feeling of loneliness crept up on you.”

“Yeah, that’s it!” Carla sat up at full attention “I felt so lonely afterwards… wishing I could have what they have.” Her expression dropped again, and her gaze had shifted back away from Geena’s.

“I foresaw this happening.” Geena sighed lightly then continued. “Those two have been together for quite some time. They trained together during their days in USMC, so it was only natural that perhaps someday, they would become a little more than just ‘close friends’.”

“I want what they have Geena… I’m so jealous of them!” Tears were starting to form in the blonde's eyes. Geena took one of her hands and held it gently in her own.

“Carla… you can’t force love. You can only let it happen naturally.” She squeezed Carla’s hand gently to comfort her.

“I know that, but I hate waiting!” Carla was full on crying now. Geena pulled her into a tight hug and gently rubbed the top of her head.

“Easy now… everything will be alright.” She continued to stroke the blonde’s soft hair as she bawled into her chest.

“The only thing that dulls the pain is cola! But even that’s starting to lose its effect…I just want to be happy!” Carla’s cry of pain was muffled by Geena’s chest. The brunette found herself a bit shook up by these sudden bursts of emotion and tears were starting to form in her eyes. She pulled Carla away from her chest to see the blonde an absolute mess. Her eyes were puffy, nose bright red, and face completely soaked. It was heartbreaking. Seeing Carla this way, the girl that was always bright, cheery, and full of so much energy now a completely broken mess. Geena lifted her chin and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
“Carla…” The brunette's voice was a bit shaky with emotion. “You’re a wonderful girl. You bring happiness to everyone around you. You always make sure everyone is in a good mood and you do whatever you can to keep that mood light and pleasant. Your smile alone can make even the darkest of days shine brighter than the afternoon sun. I can safely say I don’t know another girl like you. This pain you’re feeling now, it will pass in time, and I know you will find someone who loves you for who you are.” Geena pulled her into another tight hug, the tears that had welled up in her eyes were now finally running down her face. The two stayed this way for a few minutes. Geena eventually let go and set Carla back on her feet.

“Now let’s get you cleaned up, it’s nearly noon.” She handed the blonde a box of tissues off her desk and Carla blew into one furiously and sniffled.

“Thank you, Geena, I really mean it.” She gave the brunette a gentle smile.

“You’re welcome, Carla. I’ll always be here for you, no matter what.” She patted the small girl's head gently. Carla leaned into it like a cat and hummed softly.

“Geena…?” Carla was curious about one last thing.

“Mm?”

“Do you have someone you love?” This question took the brunette off guard and at first, she was hesitant to respond. Should she tell Carla that she was seeing Sergeant Kuhaneck? She was afraid revealing this might upset her again.

“W-Well I…” Geena started staggering over her words.

“Don’t worry, I won’t get upset, promise!” Carla reassured her with her trademark smile and Geena sighed softly.

“Yes, I do. It’s the Sergeant.” Geena said very matter-of-factly.

“Kuhaneck?” Carla’s eyes went wide with wonder.

“Yes…I love her with all my heart.” The brunette’s voice became light again as her mind filled with thoughts of the Sergeant.

“That’s… really cute!” Carla said happily as she pulled Geena into a hug.

“C-Carla…?” Geena looked down at the small blonde whose face was buried once again in her chest. She really enjoyed doing that.
“Don’t worry, I’m okay now, really! I’m glad you have someone you love and that loves you back too. You’re right, I shouldn’t get myself so worked up about these things. I should let it happen naturally like you said. In fact, it’s really exciting to think about now!” Carla tightened her hug around the tall brunette. “And besides, if there’s one thing that always cheers me up besides cola… it’s getting to bury my face in these.” She pushed her face harder into Geena’s chest, causing the brunette to gasp a little.

“Never change Carla…” Geena chuckled lightly returning the hug.

“Don’t plan to any time soon.” Carla giggled and let loosened her grip on the tall girl. Geena looked down at her with a somewhat serious expression.

“Don’t forget, you have chores to do around the base today.”

“Whoops… forgot about those.” Carla sighed.

“Go on now.” Geena opened the door and it creaked loudly. “I really ought to get that fixed…” she thought to herself.

“Yes ma’am!” Carla ran off in a much better mood than when she entered only a little bit ago. Geena watched her go and smiled to herself. She understood exactly what she was going through, and knew in her heart that someday, someone out there would love that girl with as much love as she gave to the things, she cared the most about in her life. Returning to her desk, she grabbed an unfinished report and began working on it. As noon turned to dusk, Geena had fallen asleep at her desk from an afternoon of paperwork. Carla had passed by to see her sleeping soundly through the crack of her door.

“Thank you Geena… for everything.” She whispered, quietly walking away so as to not disturb her commander. She made her way to the mess hall for dinner, only to see her two good friends already there. She greeted them and sat down, her stomach rumbling with hunger. Things were going to be just fine.
Geena felt a hand gently touch her shoulder. She woke from her slumber to see a brunette with short boyish hair in a mechanics jumpsuit smiling down at her.

“Evenin’ Commander.” Her voice was deep and strong. “You’ve had a long day. Why don’t we head to bed mm?”

“I’d like that.” Geena looked up at her and returned the smile. The two then left the office and headed to their living quarters to turn in for the night, hand in hand.
